Hello everyone! Did you have an amazing weekend? I hope so 🙂 I’ve been mountaineering… we managed to find a nice little mountain to conquer so it’s nice to sit down and rest my legs today! I’m sharing a lovely vintage wedding blog today – Kate and Mike were married near Anglesey and had a traditional, vintage-inspired day with their friends and family.

vintage wedding photography Martin Lyons (1)

This gorgeous couple didn’t entirely follow tradition: they had no wedding readings and chose not to spend a night apart before the wedding – which seems an outdated tradition to me anyway! Kate wore a stunning lace wedding dress and the venue decoration was kept simple and elegant with pastel pinks and lace.

Thank you to my friend and north Wales wedding photographer Martin Lyons for the lovely images, and huge congratulations to Kate and Mike! They’ve shared their wedding report and advice for you all at the end of today’s wedding blog. Enjoy! Claire x

I really love this vintage wedding from Bartle Hall in Lancashire – as soon as I saw Jemma and Paul on their photographer Philip Bamber‘s website I knew it was perfect for the English Wedding Blog. You’ll love this…

With a floral table plan, birdcages and pretty details inspired by a vintage theme, as well as the loveliest Benjamin Roberts dress, Jemma and Paul’s wedding is ever so pretty. The photography is gorgeous and you can see more by clicking the link at the end of their wedding report.

Congratulations Jemma and Paul, and thank you Philip Bamber for submitting such a beautiful wedding for me and my readers. Enjoy! Claire xxx

There’s a tear in my eye already – it can be quite emotional, being a wedding blogger! With every wedding submission that lands in my inbox I wait for the photo which ‘gets me’ – in this case it was Leanne’s expression as Callum gave his speech which brought that tear.

I know you’ll love today’s wedding blog – it’s special because Leanne and Callum had a very personal wedding. I always ask couples to describe their wedding style, and their answer was sweet and simple: “our own!

The images are by reportage wedding photographer Adam Riley. My huge thanks to Adam, and to Leanne and Callum for sharing your wedding story with us today. Congratulations to an amazing couple! Everyone – enjoy! Claire xxx

A little about the wedding ceremony:

We got married at the venue in front of a huge stone hearth surrounded by plants grown by our friend James, including giant sunflowers in pots, grasses and wild flowers. The ceremony itself was short but meaningful… just the way we wanted it.

Hello everyone! Today is all about David and Steph, whose wedding breaks a few of the old-fashioned rules about all the things you ‘have to have’ for your wedding day. This fantastic couple chose one wedding supplier (only!), used kids’ invitations, didn’t have readings, and created an elegant wedding without spending a fortune. I love everything about their intimate wedding in Manchester and can’t wait to share it with you today!

All of the images are by my friend and wedding blog sponsor Phil Drinkwater Photography. Words are by Steph and David, and their story is a very romantic one indeed. I love the ‘marry me’ image, and the mention of David Hasselhoff in their ‘memorable moments’… classic. Enjoy! Claire xxx

Morning everyone! We’re half way through the week – and I’m delighted to have such lovely real weddings to share with you this week. We’re definitely full-on vintage this week with yesterday’s vintage military wedding and today’s fabulously delicate and beautiful celebration – I know you’ll love this.

Isle of Wight wedding by Jason Mark Harris photography (1)

Laura and Paul were married in the Isle of Wight, and their photographer was Jason Mark Harris. I adore the flowers – delicious sweet peas and peonies – and all the pretty locations at the Albert Cottage Hotel. It goes without saying that Laura looks breathtakingly beautiful and Paul is gorgeous too! Laura styled the wedding and made all of her own stationery and everything looks simply amazing – so there’s plenty of inspiration to be had here. Grab a cuppa and enjoy – this is a wonderful wedding and I’m sure you’ll love it!

The first I saw of Louise and Ben’s wedding was the fabulous wedding table plan – and it seems only fitting that I share it with you first. Funny how a gorgeous detail can take me on a journey… and so I found wedding photographer Simon Gough, and got in touch with today’s stunning bride Louise to share this vintage Las Vegas wedding on my blog!

wedding blog Simon Gough Photography (1)

Louise told me, “We wanted to take our guests back in time, to when Vegas hotels, shows and the stars they boasted were cool and exclusive. The Angel Hotel fitted the bill with its quirky and individual style, large function rooms and stage. I wanted to use props to provide an accent of Vegas and hoped it wouldn’t appear gaudy or tacky. I am a huge Elvis fan and both my husband and I enjoy jazz music. I wanted to incorporate the ‘Rat Pack’ era and ‘Elvis’ as to me they both epitomised Vegas in its most glamorous time.”

Today’s wedding is all about the pretty details: Katie and Craig were married at Buxted Park and opted for an English country garden wedding style with pastel shades of pink and flower garlands to decorate wedding tables.

Wedding blog UK Cecelina Photography (1)

Katie made all of her wedding reception stationery herself, and the details made for a very beautiful day at one of England’s luxury wedding venues. I’m sure her lovely ideas will inspire some of you – it would be great if you leave a comment at the end of the blog post for Katie and Craig.

All of today’s images are by London’s Cecelina Photography – my huge thanks to Cecelina for submitting this wedding. The wedding report is halfway down this blog feature, but before I launch into the words and pictures, I’d like to share Katie’s glowing review of the staff at Buxted Park wedding venue with you – because it’s so lovely:

“They cannot do enough to help you before, during and after the wedding day. It runs like clockwork without making you feel like “just another wedding”.”

Emily and Joe’s Rutland wedding is everything I love: a very beautiful day full of smiles, romance and magical moments. Their DIY wedding came about from a wish to have a very personal celebration which would be – in Emily’s own words – “full of the things and people that we love”.

Emily and Joe: A DIY wedding in Rutland

The day turned out to be everything Emily and Joe had dreamed of: with a relaxed and cosy reception venue (The Finch’s Arms) and plenty of home made details, it was perfect for today’s gorgeous bride and groom to celebrate their love in a very personalised style. There are ideas here for all of you creative brides and grooms – from hand-sewn tea bags as wedding favours to applique table numbers and handmade bunting.

Xmas Wedding
FEATURED

Hey there! I’m afraid I make no apologies for plunging head first into Christmas from this point onwards! We’re going full-on festive here at English Wedding Blog – and I have a perfect article this morning for anyone planning a Christmas wedding to enjoy. Thanks as ever to Kate from Queens & Bowl for sharing this one – it’ll have you feeling inspired, snuggly and festive in minutes. Enjoy!

Xmas Wedding

Christmas is just around the corner and I’m sure you’re just as excited as I am and hopefully not too stressed with last minute present shopping (take a look at my gift guide if you need any help)!

Despite some of the more stressful aspects of the period, Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy – just like a wedding! As such, there are a lot of marriages at this time of year and for good reason too: a Christmas-themed wedding combines all the joy of the festive period with all the joy of the happiest day of your life.

He proposed when Spain won the world cup… with a ring he’d bought in Santorini and snuck home without her seeing. They danced to Romeo & Juliet. She is the most glowingly beautiful bride I’ve ever seen, and the romance here sparkles like static electricity from the screen.

UK wedding photography Sam Clayton (20)

Laura and Jamie were married at Gate Street Barn in May. Their wedding style was old English shabby chic. The lovely Sam Clayton was their wedding photographer, and she did the most amazing job. I saw this wedding on facebook and – well, let’s not be shy about this: I begged Sam for the images to show you on English Wedding Blog. She said we could have them… It made my week!

UK wedding photography Sam Clayton (3)

Sam sent quite a lot of beautiful pictures from Laura and Jamie’s big day for me to share. There are so many incredible moments, fabulous details and stunning images I’m sharing this wedding over two days. I couldn’t share any fewer than 100 (and spookily whittled it down to exactly this number!) Today I’ll show you ‘before the wedding’ – Laura’s Jesus Peiro wedding dress, Hetty Rose bespoke shoes, that wedding ring smuggled over from Santorini… this is all so exquisitely beautiful. Enjoy. x

Once again I have some brilliant advice to share with all of you brides-to-be from my lovely friends at Queens & Bowl. Choosing the perfect vintage wedding shoes can be a Big Decision (capitals intended!) so for shoe lovers everywhere, here are some top tips to make sure you’re tottering beautifully in the right direction!

Rosaln Lace Weding Shoes by Rachel Simpson

Rosalyn Lace Wedding Shoes by Rachel Simpson

Some women would argue that shoes aren’t a matter of life or death; they’re far more important than that! This is especially true when it comes to choosing wedding shoes. A bad pair of shoes can throw off an entire bridal ensemble, not to mention making the best day of your life extremely uncomfortable.

As most married women will tell you, choosing wedding shoes is hard but it could be argued that picking vintage wedding shoes is even harder. Not only do you have to consider all of the usual factors that will determine which shoes you buy, but you also have to match your wedding shoes to the era you’ll be evoking in your ceremony!

I love the romance of soft pink and vintage lace. I love the old English charm of a proper red telephone box, and I love Nic and Ben’s wedding because it has all of these and more. Today’s gorgeous couple were married in the summer at Holme Hall golf club in Lincolnshire and chose wedding photographer Pete Barnes for his relaxed photography style.Lincolnshire wedding blog Pete Barnes (1)

Nichola says, “We had the best day ever, the weather was not looking great all morning, but it was perfect by the time I had to go to the church, the sun came out and was beautiful. We still talk about it every day and 3 months on we would do it again in a heartbeat.”

I can see why – this is a beautiful wedding day and I’m so pleased I can share it with you here today! Enjoy x
