2017 brides get to surround themselves with the most lush flowers imaginable – and the trend for exciting, statement flora is growing in momentum. “Flora”? Like, Latin? Yes – because I mean everything that’s gorgeous and green in nature – bouquets and arrangements are so much more than bunches of flowers. Today’s inspiration showcases the most stunning blooms and tendrils of leaf and stem; succulents, ferns, varieties of everything like we’ve never seen before.

This inspiration is more than just flowers of course. It’s full of wedding ideas for the botanicals-loving bride: with stationery attuned to this key theme (by the fabulous Gooseberry Moon) and amazing styling by Nina Marika (whose name is just one of those you’ll find in our fabulous new supplier directory).

Bridal make up by lovely Aimee Chorley and divine hair by Daniel Gray make this one of the prettiest bridal shoots I’ve seen so far  this year, and I really hope you love it too! Images are by the always-fabulous Tiree Dawson, and there’s a full supplier list for you below.

As we nestle further into our chunkiest knits and wrap our hands around mugs of steaming hot chocolate here at English Wedding Blog HQ I have just a couple of inspirational features to share with you before Christmas. It’s been an amazing year; I’m still full of the joys of the festive season and that’s very much thanks to the guys at Aspire Photography Training. Our last shoot of 2016 was full of winter wonderfulness and I simply had to share some of these ideas with you before we break up!

Catherine (White Feather & Co.) – stylist, business mentor and the most inspirational person I know – chose pine branches and eucalyptus stems alongside brass candlesticks and copper cutlery to create a winter tablescape; warmer tones contrasting with the foliage beautifully. Bouquets were styled by the fabulous Katie at Made in Flowers.

Hello beautiful! I hope you’re having the most wonderful week. I’ve been super busy with my calligraphy pens recently, dreaming up something which many of you have asked me about – and I’m thrilled to say my online calligraphy workshop is finally here!! Wherever you are in the country, you can now learn calligraphy for your wedding from the comfort of your own home 🙂

The workshop is based around 6 video tutorials of calligraphy demonstrations, tips and advice. Each video is around 5-10 minutes long.

Every week you’ll receive a new video, which comes with practice worksheets for you to print. In 3 weeks you’ll learn how to write a pretty modern alphabet – enough to design your own wedding invitations, address envelopes and write place name tags.

By the end of the 6 week workshop you will know how to write a beautiful modern calligraphy script with a traditional dip pen. You’ll be ready to develop your own lettering style, and you’ll be writing and framing your calligraphy quotes to hang on your walls!

I was chatting with a friend yesterday and the words “like a princess” came into our conversation – and we chuckled. Neither of us are princessy girls… and yet, doesn’t everyone want to be the centre of someone’s universe sometimes?

Legend Bridal Designs alternative wedding blog with Tiree Dawson Photography (16)

That feeling of “like a princess” applies to relationships as much as it does to weddings. I’ve heard so many stories from brides-to-be finding their dress: ‘The One” – and having that princess feeling! Until now I’ve always felt a little apart from that; I’m no Cinderella, I’ve never worn a cocktail dress or ballgown – it just isn’t me. And when it comes to wedding dresses, I’d go as alternative as I could get away with!

This last month or so I’ve come to realise that alternative and princess aren’t worlds apart: you can be both. There are more princesses than Cinderella and Kate (yawn!) – and turning to those with fiery characters and exciting styles means you can look amazing, and like your gorgeous, alternative self, and still feel like a princess on your wedding day!

Matching your wedding style with your venue is easy when you find a welcoming home-from-home which has years of character and charm in its very walls. Nestled among Lake District roads, with views to the distant hills and plenty of nooks and crannies for your guests to discover, is The Plough at Lupton, where today’s vintage-inspired shoot took place.

We have everything feminine and pretty with a sassy 1950s twist – a stunning hand painted wedding cake (the colours are SO fabulous for 2016!), a sweet little vintage rose bouquet and a real vintage coach which almost steals the show! (Seriously: hats off to the vintage bus drivers of Cumbria; I’m a local girl and I know our roads. You are legends!) Oh, and did I mention the festoon lighting from Typical Type? It’s divine… and I’d never seen anything like it before 2016. Definitely a must-have for weddings with plenty going on outside!

Not everyone dreams of being a princess. I never have; and if I’m honest the classic bridal style isn’t for me. I love dresses which are different, creative, and which make a real impression. A dress has to have ‘wow’ as well as being beautiful. And in an ideal world, a dress has to have a story behind it. Enter the awesome Legend Bridal Designs along with an impressive cast of north west wedding suppliers for today’s alternative styled shoot…

I’m a little obsessed with Game of Thrones. I was excited to hear that the girls at Legend Bridal Designs have recently created custom wedding gowns for brides who love the series and found the inspiration for their day there. Legend are bespoke dressmakers with a very different kind of bridal shop – their dresses are out of this world. I was over the moon to see this magical, unique bridal shoot featuring their gorgeous designs. Images are by lovely Tiree Dawson Photography.

This morning we shared the first of three fabulous Viking inspired bridal looks, and you’ll have glimpsed some of the most amazing table styling in the banqueting hall at Lowther Castle. This afternoon I’m sharing my very favourite parts from this shoot: the tablescape – and it’s so much more than just a table! Let’s take a closer look at the tablescapes, floral design, wedding cake, stationery suite and bridal styling from this morning’s Lowther Castle shoot.

Wedding tables are changing: the last thing they are is flat… tablescapes now include fabulous hanging decorations and sumptuous design from floor to ceiling. The banqueting tablescape from Lowther Castle was one of the loveliest I’ve EVER seen – and it’s so exciting to be able to share it with you on the English Wedding Blog.

Here’s how to create a unique and exciting look for your Viking inspired wedding celebration. It’s perfect for any castle wedding reception, and especially suited to the winter months when you’re looking to add colour to your tables. Enjoy!Claire

You’re about to have a brilliantly inspiring Monday morning. (You’re welcome!) I’ve fallen head over heels for today’s style inspiration: we’re about to journey into a world of Viking style, via a shoot which embraces amazing lighting, decor and beauty. There’s a fabulously creative tablescape the like of which I’ve never seen before: it’s simply out of this world.

The first bridal look is my favourite: those long braids and striking accessories are more than gorgeous – and the dress and accessories work beautifully. It’s an alternative look for a bride with real character: a chance to embrace your creativity and dress up – knowing your bridal look will be unique, and oh so you.

I adore the shape of this dress as much as I do the detailing: the delicate lace and hand cut suede flowers in the shoulder detail make it such a magical style to wear – bliss!

Have you been to the Midland Hotel in Morecambe? It’s fabulous: an art deco hotel on the seafront, lovingly restored and restyled with so much character, and a superb wedding venue. I was there for the very first time only a month or so ago but the hotel has featured on the English Wedding Blog many times…

Midland Hotel Morecambe wedding blog Lisa Hindle Photography (14)

And so today I’m over the moon to have a fabulous wedding from the Midland Hotel to share with you. The details are classy and understated: flowers are white; stationery is stylish with a dash of art deco, and our brides are absolutely gorgeous!

Midland Hotel Morecambe wedding blog Lisa Hindle Photography (22)

Amy and Krysta found their suppliers online, at wedding fairs and through recommendations from the venue. They loved their bridal boutique in Preston for the super helpful advice they received – and for being able to choose dresses which worked well together even though they couldn’t see each other’s until the wedding day! Don’t they look amazing?!

No two weddings are ever the same – every one is different because ultimately they come down to personality. And that’s why I love writing about weddings so much! Weddings are as unique as fingerprints: your stories will be as different as your choices of venue, photographer and details…

Arusha's Images Photography regal bridal shoot (10)

and oh, do I have a stunning styled shoot for you this afternoon! Hot from the lens of photographer Arusha this one blasts red, white and blue – and takes inspiration from the more luxurious aspects of the venue where the shoot took place.

www.arushasimagesphotography.co.uk

Arusha told me, “I love the age old romance of red roses, and took inspiration from a poem, this time by Robert Burns:

“My love is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June:
My love is like a melody
That’s sweetly played in tune.”

I felt that with the red roses, and the red Jaguar I sourced, that other strong colours would naturally be blue and bridal white: so red, white and blue it was.

Wedding inspiration doesn’t get any more exciting… with an amazing team, big ideas and incredible styling talents today’s styled shoot is out of this world. It has all of my most favourite things: creatively messy oversized flowers, great big glowing lightbulb stars, fabulous photography, divine dress detailing and exquisite photography…

winter wedding ideas with Katie Laura Flowers, Typical Type and Tiree Dawson Photography (16)

The best thing about today’s shoot – as with every shoot I feature – is that it could be all yours. Shoots are all about showing couples how amazing a wedding can look when you hire the right team to style your wedding day. Every supplier featured today comes very highly recommended because I’ve seen and loved their work over and over again.

Whether you choose a single statement piece – a shining star, a stunning bouquet, a dress dripping with back jewels – or a combination of the elements from the shoot, you’re guaranteed wow factor. Personally I would start with the flowers… Katie Laura is one of the best wedding florists I’ve seen on blogs this year and she’s going to be ridiculously popular, I just know it!

Today I’m over the moon to be sharing a styled shoot from PapaKåta, The Wedding Affair and Dominic Wright Photography. The star of the day? Well aside from our gorgeous couple, it has to be the beautiful tent doesn’t it? Just… wow!

wedding tents UK (52)

Imagine celebrating your wedding under canvas with something glamorous, exciting and brand new to the UK. This is worlds away from a dingy old marquee – Sperry Tents are brand new to this country, and they’re the prettiest, classiest, most amazing places for a wedding reception you could possibly dream of!

I’ve been a MASSIVE fan of PapaKåta since the beginning of the English Wedding Blog back in 2011. Wedding teepees were brand new, and we loved their rustic, eco style. PapaKåta is now the UK’s biggest supplier of teepees and back in February I heard they were bringing Sperry Tents – fabulous American styled tents – over to the UK. Sperry Tents are huge in the US, always on the world’s top wedding blogs, and I’m more excited than I can even begin to tell you to be sharing this shoot with you today.
