I love letters. Writing has always been my life: from a secret love of spelling tests to language studies and then calligraphy… so I absolutely adore the striking look of light up letters. I have something very special for you (ok, for me!! but I know you’ll love it too!) this Friday morning 🙂

Coordinated by the super organised and undeniably talented McAvoy Wedding Photography and featuring a fantastic weekday collaboration of local wedding supplier talent, today’s fabulously decadent photo shoot was an event that Words To Glow were only too delighted to contribute to. Featuring a beautiful seaside location, a wonderfully decadent hotel and oodles of sophistication to boot, what was not to love about this little beauty!

On the day of the shoot itself, the sun shone brightly and the dream team were lucky enough to be able to shoot in various locations, both inside and outside the Midland Hotel. Situated right on the curve of Morecambe’s seafront, the hotel was built in 1933 and as such maintains a distinct Art Deco feel to its interior and thus provided the initial inspiration behind the day’s shoot.

We’ve had such beautiful weather recently, and many of you have had your engagement shoots over recent weeks. Two of my favourites from the English Wedding Showcase are a world of contrasts: from glorious spring sunshine to dramatic twilight…

True love: engagement photography by Martin Beddall on the English Wedding Showcase

Above: Heidi and Toby’s Kent engagement shoot with wedding photographer Martin Beddall – beautifully sunny and light, although Martin introduced it on the English Wedding Blog with the words “probably means more snow soon”. Thanks Martin!

Below: Mark and Erin’s engagement shoot near Warrington – a clear evening with deliciously blue skies. I love their feet in this picture! And the blue is dreamy and so romantic. By McAvoy Photography.

I don’t feature engagement or pre-wedding photography very often on English Wedding Blog, but there have been some beautiful shoots from my wedding photographer sponsors on the Showcase recently, and I urge you to go and have a look if you’re planning or considering an engagement shoot of your own. This heartbreaking tale begins with a note in my inbox several weeks ago. Would I like to review a new book for brides and grooms: “Wedding Cupcakes”? Yes I’d love to. I could have a taste test and everything… it’d be so much fun!

wedding cupcakes book coverSo I replied, and within a couple of days this little beauty arrived in the post. I dashed out to Sainsburys with my shopping list ready to get stuck into one of those beautifully inspiring wedding DIY blog posts that all the top bloggers are so good at. I imagined I’d be as good at this as Lou from Whimsical Wonderland Weddings with all her expert tutorials and home made photoshoots.

I couldn’t have been wronger. As wrong as if you’d led me by the hand to the ‘wrong’ department in the wrong shop, tipped me upside down, painted ‘wrong’ on my forehead and dumped me in the wrong basket on the way out, as one of my expert reviewers might say. (but she’s better at this than I am.) Still, at least I was keen.

photo credit McAvoy Photography (1)The title of this blog post sums up Anna and Mike’s wedding day in Manchester last summer: their smiles as they walk along the canal path are bursting full of happiness – and I love Anna’s words in her wedding report: “In every photo I am smiling – I don’t think either of us could stop!”.

I always love a bride who wears her glasses with pride too, and I think Anna looks amazing. There’s everything here: a wonderful story, some fabulous ideas and details, and of course the lovely photos by Manchester’s McAvoy Photography.

Enjoy!

Morning everyone, I hope you’ve had a lovely week. As things are still a little at sixes and sevens here in English Wedding Towers* I’m sharing another treat from the English Wedding Showcase blog with you today. This is Louise and Will’s wedding – or a part of it.

My fabulous friends and sponsors McAvoy Wedding Photography have been writing up their real weddings as little mini-series over the last few weeks, which I love! It means the English Wedding Showcase is a thriving and busy blog full of real weddings. This is part four (count ’em!) of Louise and Will’s wedding entitled “In The City” – with my favourite pictures from their day.

“Last month we had a fab time photographing Louise and Will’s lovely Midland Hotel wedding. It was a gorgeous blend of luxury and handmade personal details with a pink and rock music theme. Today is all about Louise and Will-taking a stroll in the city, toasting their wedding in the intimacy of the honeymoon suite and sharing their love on the dancefloor.

The scene for today’s wedding blog post is The Manor By The Lake. The tone of the day is beautiful, cheeky and fun. The bride and groom are Dawn and Gavin, very much in love and all smiles from beginning to end.

I shan’t waffle: I’ll leave you to read and enjoy.

Styal Lodge real wedding blogCome and join me for this enchanting wedding at one of Cheshire’s most luxurious wedding venues. Built especially for weddings, Styal Lodge is a pretty cool place – and Charlotte and James’s wedding shows off all its best bits!

First seen on the English Wedding Showcase, I love the fun elements of this wedding day: there’s a great picture of the bridal party with funky umbrellas, and towards the end a lovely portrait picture is completely thrown by the arrival of a naughty spider… McAvoy Photography really do capture the fun and playfulness in a wedding day and I’m sure you’ll love this as much as I do.

Charlotte and James are the most adorable couple – they look so deeply in love with each other, and I’m really proud to be sharing their wedding with you today.

I met up with lovely Manchester wedding photographer Jenny from McAvoy Photography earlier this month and we got chatting about my blog post on finding that childish excitement you should be enjoying about your wedding day.

Kids wedding survey Eliza's dream weddingMy dream wedding – a child’s perspective

Jenny had the brainwave of asking her daughter and some classmates about their ideal wedding. The lovely Eliza – fan of all things sparkly – and her friends came up trumps with some insightful, interesting and funny wedding themes.

Huge thanks to Jenny and to Eliza McAvoy for being top wedding researchers! This wedding blog post wouldn’t be possible without them. And now we have the results for you… this is the future of weddings in the UK in the eyes of our primary school children!

The Best Wedding Ever! Survey results

What would the bride wear?

Surprisingly perhaps, a variety of wedding dress styles came up in the survey results. Seven year olds are torn over the issue of wedding dress colour: fewer than half of our respondents opted for a traditional white wedding dress!

Time for a wedding, and this one is a real treat which I found thanks to Jenny and Keith McAvoy’s excellent blogging on the English Wedding Showcase. The wisteria wall as a backdrop for the beautiful bride and groom absolutely blew me away.

Cambridge Wedding by McAvoy Photography (12)It turns out that our wonderfully odd English weather caused the wisteria to flower early in Cambridge this year! What a great omen for bride and groom Luisa and Chris. The flowers even made it onto the local news in Cambridge.

There are new faces on English Wedding – and my funny old one too. I’ve added the little widget in the sidebar on the right of the page which you’ll see when you click on a single blog post – to make it clear who’s writing what on the blog.

I thought it’d be nice to reintroduce everyone: some familiar friendly faces and some new guest bloggers who are bringing their stories to the blog. So by way of an introduction, this is us!
