No? Good. Because you’re about to read an article which flies in the face of everything you’ve ever been told about your wedding colours having to match. They don’t. In fact, the more variation you have in the colours of your wedding styling, the better!

Back when I started out in the wedding business – and that makes me sound reeeally old, but it was less than 10 years ago – everything had to match. If a wedding was purple, it had to be Cadbury. Or royal. Or lavender. You’d never dream of using two slightly different purples – or at least, you’d never see such a travesty in the wedding magazines.

We used to joke on a wedding forum about the best man’s socks matching the bridesmaid’s knickers… and while I’ve never known of a wedding going quite that far, colour matching was a real worry for some brides.

I remember a year or so ago on the blog one of the brides whose vintage wedding featured on the blog told me about a cupboard under the stairs which was full to bursting with a secret stash of cups and saucers she’d been collecting. Today’s blog post has as many ideas for a relaxed rustic wedding as that bride had teacups in her cupboard. Fact.

Whatever else influences your wedding day, the key focus should be on personality. Make sure your wedding is ‘you’ and don’t let suppliers, families or wedding magazines tell you what to do. Guys and girls, I’m here to tell you that if you’d like to have a Doctor Who theme then you should absolutely go for it, and make it awesome!

Matthew and Emma’s wedding in Hertfordshire had a subtle Doctor Who theme running throughout the day. They used blue as a key colour and had little touches like neon lighting in the flower centrepieces to hint at their theme… which was realised well and truly with a Doctor Who cake topper: bride + groom + tardis!

Their day begins with a classic church wedding and ends with both mums rocking out on the dancefloor to Teenage Dirtbag. Shall we dive in? Congratulations and huge thanks to gorgeous couple Matthew and Emma, and thanks as ever to lovely Leicestershire wedding photographer Alix Marina-Chouhan of Lumiere Photography. Everyone, enjoy! Hello again! What’s your wedding style? UK couples inspired by wedding blogs are styling their celebrations along three key themes this year: vintage (of course!), country garden and afternoon tea. Why are these themes so popular? Because they’re creative and give you so much room to play, and design and add your own style to your wedding day.

My lovely friend and sponsor Alix from Lumiere Photography, and Val from Benessamy Events have created three styled shoots to inspire you with ideas for each of these popular wedding themes. First of all – country elegance wedding style ideas. Val can tell you more. Enjoy! Claire x

Country elegance wedding style ideas

The idea behind this shoot was to bring both glamour and elegance to the country. The pretty blossom tree provides a beautiful focal point, dressed with pearls and crystals and sprinkled with love notes. The guest tables are dressed with soft lace and the bride’s bouquet is full of gorgeous white peonies.

Hello everyone! Who’s got sunshine this afternoon? I’m going to quickly share a couple of highlights from a Warwickshire wedding with you – do click through to read more and see how beautiful bride Rachel and her groom Nick combined vintage touches with elegant English wedding styling.

by Alix Marina-Chouhan, Lumiere Photography

Nick and Rachel got married at Bosworth Hall last year- I know I am behind with my blogs!- and time went so fast that we didn’t have time for all the shots we had planned. I offered to come back in the morning but they were happy to leave it as their day actually went. They oozed happiness and I know they have kept as happy as they were, we have kept in touch and Nick ordered a huge multi frame of their wedding photos for their first anniversary- paper.

Here are a few photos. To see more go to http://www.lumiere-photography.co.uk/weddings/bosworth-hall-wedding/

Ryan and Andrea’s May wedding was full of creativity and style, inspired by their wedding venue. They married at Preston Court in Kent – a famously beautiful wedding venue with its very own carousel. This inspired the circus themed elements to today’s English country wedding, which I think you’ll adore!

Ben and Sally’s August wedding has so much character and warmth, and I know you’ll love it as much as I do. The bride and groom really personalised every detail of their wedding day from the ceremony to the flowers, stationery, cakes and wedding music. Sally’s wedding dress was handmade by her mum (and it’s gorgeous!) while Ben found his vintage suit from a shop in London.
