I was chatting with a friend yesterday and the words “like a princess” came into our conversation – and we chuckled. Neither of us are princessy girls… and yet, doesn’t everyone want to be the centre of someone’s universe sometimes?

That feeling of “like a princess” applies to relationships as much as it does to weddings. I’ve heard so many stories from brides-to-be finding their dress: ‘The One” – and having that princess feeling! Until now I’ve always felt a little apart from that; I’m no Cinderella, I’ve never worn a cocktail dress or ballgown – it just isn’t me. And when it comes to wedding dresses, I’d go as alternative as I could get away with!

This last month or so I’ve come to realise that alternative and princess aren’t worlds apart: you can be both. There are more princesses than Cinderella and Kate (yawn!) – and turning to those with fiery characters and exciting styles means you can look amazing, and like your gorgeous, alternative self, and still feel like a princess on your wedding day!

Time for a little Pinterest, I think… as today’s Lake District wedding is so full of beautiful, colourful, gorgeous details and flowers I hardly know where to begin. I adore this day: the venue is one I love (see my review from last year), the bride and groom are stunning, and oh, the flowers… just perfect.

The Wild Boar has its own very distinctive décor and did not need much help to create a rustic, vintage vibe. The Wild Boar is full of character with low ceiling beams and roaring log fires, so we managed to achieve the relaxed, intimate atmosphere that we wanted quite easily.”

About 1 week before the wedding I emailed every supplier who was attending the wedding to ensure they had the correct date and there were no problems etc. This relaxed me completely and prevented any last minute complications!”

Not everyone dreams of being a princess. I never have; and if I’m honest the classic bridal style isn’t for me. I love dresses which are different, creative, and which make a real impression. A dress has to have ‘wow’ as well as being beautiful. And in an ideal world, a dress has to have a story behind it. Enter the awesome Legend Bridal Designs along with an impressive cast of north west wedding suppliers for today’s alternative styled shoot…

I’m a little obsessed with Game of Thrones. I was excited to hear that the girls at Legend Bridal Designs have recently created custom wedding gowns for brides who love the series and found the inspiration for their day there. Legend are bespoke dressmakers with a very different kind of bridal shop – their dresses are out of this world. I was over the moon to see this magical, unique bridal shoot featuring their gorgeous designs. Images are by lovely Tiree Dawson Photography.

This morning we shared the first of three fabulous Viking inspired bridal looks, and you’ll have glimpsed some of the most amazing table styling in the banqueting hall at Lowther Castle. This afternoon I’m sharing my very favourite parts from this shoot: the tablescape – and it’s so much more than just a table! Let’s take a closer look at the tablescapes, floral design, wedding cake, stationery suite and bridal styling from this morning’s Lowther Castle shoot.

Wedding tables are changing: the last thing they are is flat… tablescapes now include fabulous hanging decorations and sumptuous design from floor to ceiling. The banqueting tablescape from Lowther Castle was one of the loveliest I’ve EVER seen – and it’s so exciting to be able to share it with you on the English Wedding Blog.

Here’s how to create a unique and exciting look for your Viking inspired wedding celebration. It’s perfect for any castle wedding reception, and especially suited to the winter months when you’re looking to add colour to your tables. Enjoy!Claire

You’re about to have a brilliantly inspiring Monday morning. (You’re welcome!) I’ve fallen head over heels for today’s style inspiration: we’re about to journey into a world of Viking style, via a shoot which embraces amazing lighting, decor and beauty. There’s a fabulously creative tablescape the like of which I’ve never seen before: it’s simply out of this world.

The first bridal look is my favourite: those long braids and striking accessories are more than gorgeous – and the dress and accessories work beautifully. It’s an alternative look for a bride with real character: a chance to embrace your creativity and dress up – knowing your bridal look will be unique, and oh so you.

I adore the shape of this dress as much as I do the detailing: the delicate lace and hand cut suede flowers in the shoulder detail make it such a magical style to wear – bliss!
