Here Comes The Bride… as tunes go this one’s a classic, and generally expected as the bride enters, right? So how about the James Bond theme tune for the groom to walk down the aisle?! I LOVE this idea as I love so many things about Carla and James’s Thornton Manor wedding.

Warning: this blog post contains beautiful photographs of cake. I can guarantee you’ll be feeling a little cakey by the end – and I hope you’ll have fallen in love with these wonderful little wedding party picks too! They’re cute and more than a little special… and proof if ever you needed it that the little details really do add magic to your tables!

Civil ceremony party picks by Vintage Twee (1)

Lovely Jo Linder from Vintage Twee has launched new versions of her best selling wedding party picks: vintage and rainbow coloured party picks for civil weddings with ‘mr & mr’ or ‘mrs & mrs’ in a lovely vintage typewriter font. It feels like such a long time since England’s first same-sex marriages were making the news – so it’s wonderful to see them inspiring such a lovely new collection from one of my favourite wedding suppliers.

Good morning everyone! I hope your week is going well. I have so many things to share with you, my list of blog submissions for fabulous shoots and real weddings is growing and my editorial calendar for July is pretty full… with a little space for anything really special that comes along, so do get in touch if you have a feature for me! In the meantime, I’d love for you to join me today on a virtual trip around beautiful Sandon Hall.

I’ve been chatting on email to Sandon Hall’s resident flower expert, the lovely Breige. We share a love of English country garden flowers for weddings and I’m really looking forward to sharing more floral inspiration from Sandon Hall on the English Wedding Blog over the summer. Already a stunning wedding venue, Sandon Hall looks absolutely incredible when the rooms are filled with flowers, and for Staffordshire couples I don’t think there’s a better choice of wedding venue.

This is my wedding of the week without a doubt – simply divine with a beautiful bride and handsome groom, delicious photography and a wonderful wedding report. Grab a coffee and prepare to enjoy a very, very special real wedding blog this morning…

wedding blog Chris Hanley Photography (1)Kate and Adam began their relationship as ‘book buddies’ (which is the loveliest story of all!) and after a long engagement began planning their wedding around a vintage literary theme. With a Penguin invitation, piles of books, a vintage typewriter and more gorgeous styling ideas they turned the Grange Hotel into a book lovers’ dream for their wedding day.

Congratulations to Kate and Adam, and thank you for sharing your romantic story with all of us today. You two are a dream come true (and I love how pretty my wedding blog looks with you on it!) – and huge thanks to my friend Chris of Chris Hanley Photography. Everyone – enjoy! Claire x

A confession first of all today everyone: I’ve been gazing at the images for this wedding blog post (possibly dribbling a little) for quite a long time. I should have been typing but a mixture of admiration and hunger stopped me in my tracks! Today I’m sharing the best wedding cakes I’ve seen all year – seriously these are damned impressive and then some!

luxury wedding cakes from Cakes by Beth UK (1)

My favourite! Au Naturale is a stack of Madagascan vanilla sponge filled with vanilla buttercream and fruity raspberry jam, with a long glossy red ribbon bow, which draped down the length of the cake creates a bold and striking focal point.

Designer wedding cakes from Cakes by Beth

Designer Beth is modest about her wedding cakes, and I suspect she’s blushing already but I really do admire her creativity, attention to detail and the passion she pours into her wedding cakes business. Beth is based in the North West, has exhibited and given demonstrations at top events like The Cake & Bake Show and designed cakes for high profile events and many, many weddings.

This preview photograph from the new 2013 Chanticleer Collection appeared online a day or two ago to a chorus of “Wow!” so I had to share it here. Breathtakingly beautiful, isn’t it?

This is a rare blog post about me – Claire – the owner of the mind and typing fingers behind English Wedding Blog! Written in November 2011 with some edits November 2013. Hello!

seascale photo shoot (7)

As the blog is growing so quickly at the moment I thought I’d introduce myself to new readers, and update all my old friends on how my life has been turned upside down and plonked firmly back on its feet over the last year.

The incredible photos telling my story are by my good friend and source of endless creative inspiration – Chris Hanley Photography. Before we start… both Chris and I believe wedding bloggers shouldn’t take themselves too seriously. Ahem…

I’m a part-time wedding blogger, and part-time wedding calligrapher, as you may know. I started English Wedding Blog back in November 2009 at 6am on a quiet calligraphy day! The blog has grown massively (37,000 of you read it each month) with the support of the great friends I’ve made along the way – I’ve been privileged to meet with some inspiring and wonderful brides and grooms, as well as wedding suppliers and other bloggers, along the way.

I use the word ‘awesome’ in honour of today’s beautiful bride. Amanda hails from America – she came back to England with groom Sam to marry in the middle of Cambridge. The wedding has flavours of American tradition – watch out for the wedding cake face-squishing! – and the most wonderful English setting and details. Loving those top hats!

Awesome also refers to the photography – and in the English use of the word: awe inspiring. I’ve started with a night time shot, so this blog feature is all upside down and backwards… but Chris Hanley‘s photography is breathtaking, is it not?! While I have your full attention, let me introduce Amanda and Sam who’ve written their wedding story to share with you on the blog today. Congratulations to you both, and thank you so much for making English Wedding Blog so incredibly gorgeous today!

Everyone else – enjoy. x

top UK wedding photography blog Chris Hanley (25)Today’s real wedding blog is a true feast for your eyes and heart: with exquisite photography from one of England’s top wedding photographers, and so many romantic moments – Rick and Karen are head over heels in love and it shows. They married at Rookery Hall in June and chose my friend Chris Hanley Photography to capture their day. The images are simply out of this world – Chris is a master photographer whose images are used by Queensberry to sell the most luxurious wedding albums money can buy.

There’s more! Karen is a designer, and the wedding stationery is all her own work. The typography is gorgeous; the art deco feel of her designs is elegant and fashionable, and I love a wedding where lettering and type are a key feature of the decor and styling.

Karen and Rick take centre stage as today’s bride and groom, with Karen looking stunning in her bespoke David Fielden wedding dress and Rick so very handsome in his military uniform. You will love these two – with an outstanding collection of wedding photographs and a fantastic wedding report to enjoy – this is one of the very best. Enjoy!

photo credit Chris Hanley Photography (37)Creative exploration is a marvellous thing for any wedding business. Imagination is why wedding blogs were invented. It’s why we admire top designers who are making waves – the likes of Ian Stuart and David Fielden, the innovators of our industry.

It’s also a hell of a lot of fun.

photo credit Chris Hanley Photography (36)For Vintage Twee‘s Joanne Linder and artist and designer Nia Fiori, creativity is the heart of their wedding businesses. I watched, intrigued, as my two friends, together with the fabulous Chris Hanley Photography, devised a shoot which would explore the very core of their two brands.

Joanne and Nia’s willingness to let their hair down and play was just brilliant. The shoot they dreamed up looks right into the heart of their businesses, painting Vintage Twee in eccentric perfectionism and playing with Nia Fiori’s love of burlesque and fine art.

I love their promo shoot, which for me puts a whole new light on promoting a brand image.

I had the privilege of watching a very select group of wedding experts at work recently… I still can’t divulge all the cloak-and-dagger details of this amazing shoot but I can’t resist telling you about the fascinatingly talented Bethany Jane Davies.

Vintage hair and make up by Bethany Jane Davies (1)

Bethany Jane Davies joined the team – Chris Hanley Photography, Marry Me Films, Vintage Twee and Nia Fiori – on a two-day creative shoot to create the most wonderfully exciting and glamorous hair for models Jo and Nia.

Without getting in anyone’s way I did my best to peer over her shoulder from time to time each morning and watch her at work. Bethany owns The Vintage Beauty Parlour and she’s an experienced freelance hair and make-up artist with a background in television, fashion and film. She was personally trained by Versace’s head stylist at the prestigious School of Make-Up – and it really was exciting to see her working with Jo and Nia!
