I just love today’s real wedding – a pretty marquee in a Herefordshire field, sublime florals and a wonderful atmosphere of love, family and pure joy! Beautiful Lucy looks stunning in her House of Vintage dress, and the handcrafted details and gorgeous contributions from friends and family make this one of my favourite summer weddings ever.

We basically had a field to start, so as you can imagine, it took a huge amount of effort and time to get it wedding event ready! One element that I was really desperate to incorporate was a decorated old trailer of dad’s. After some haggling and negotiation about which particular piece of machinery we would use, we filled a trailer with flowers, bunting and fairylights and put a ‘love’ sign in the centre, which one of my cousins who is a carpenter made. This could be then used as a DIY photo booth and also as something to play on for all of the children who were at our wedding!

Bright, funky florals don’t immediately conjure up Old Hollywood glamour… but by using them as a modern twist on a classic theme they can really bring your wedding to life! I adore this shoot for its contrasts; timeless fashion and vibrant styling touches – it’s all so gorgeous and the flowers are ahmaaaazing!

The shoot is all about glamorous vintage wedding inspiration with a modern twist. The Brooklands Museum is a very quirky venue with a retro atmosphere where garage doors, old petrol stations, vintage cars and old staircases make an interesting backdrop.

The modern twist is revealed through the wedding dress collection using the finest tulles, silks and laces as well as through the atmosphere of the decor featuring a delicate pastel colour palette (peach, white, gold, sage green) displayed on the cake, the table setting and the stationery.

1. Don’t wear your signature scent on your wedding day

‘When it comes to bridal fragrances, scent acts as an olfactory ode to that special day, transporting us back to the time you said “I do” with just one smell. Scent evokes memories like nothing else – when you have forgotten who sat next to who, what conversation you had with who, who gave you what gift – scent will instantly take you back to that day in olfactory Technicolor.

Don’t you just love seeing something different on a wedding blog? Inspiration comes in many flavours, but as a blogger I love to discover wedding style ideas with an edge, a twist – a different look to the norm. Today’s shoot stands out from the crowd for its attitude; I love the spiky bouquet; the wild, untamed backdrop of the beach and the contrasting softness of the dresses from Frock and Soul Ltd. I hope you love it as much as I do!

Frock & Soul owner Bekka is from a fashion styling background and has a fantastic creative flair. Her small boutique in Uppermill, Saddleworth stocks bohemian styled dresses and is filled with decor that echoes a natural and organic feel. Bekka selected all the dresses from different designers for the shoot, and styled everything on the day.

So your best friend is getting married. What do you buy as a wedding gift? Shopping for a perfect wedding gift can be daunting, but when it comes to a close friend, there can be even more pressure to find the perfect gift.

You not only want to find the perfect gift for the happy couple, but you want one that will also signify the many years of friendship you have shared. The gift should always be thoughtful, but you shouldn’t spend time stressing over it, as sometimes the most meaningful gifts are often ones that are not expensive. Of course, you don’t want to get something that just anybody can buy.

As a good friend, in addition to the simple fact that it comes from you, the happy couple will assign a special meaning to your gift. There are literally tons of wedding gift ideas out there, so it really depends on how well you know the couple.

I love Rachael & Darren’s wedding – the dress code of black tie for all the guys makes it super gorgeous and I adore the venue – such a perfect fit with the elegant styling of the day! Our stunning bride and handsome groom styled the venue with lush creamy white hydrangeas and roses, candles, sequined table runners and mirrors.

The overall look is fabulously done: it’s elegant and timeless, and the black tie dress code makes it look so chic and decadent – reminiscent of 1920s old Hollywood style! Colour accents are kept really simple with gold and blush styling touches perfectly complementing the glamorous look of the beautiful bride and groom.

We met Jen and Mel at our friend’s wedding at Christmas 2015, we were blown away by their professionalism, friendly personalities and we loved how our friend’s photographs looked. By chance I was at a wedding fair with my mum in the January and Memories and Milestones has a stall, they remembered me from the wedding and had our date available, we booked on the spot.

Did you see the genius that was Hannah and Ian‘s wedding cake table at the beginning of the month? They had three ‘cakes’ – beautifully displayed to fit the styling of their autumn wedding, but while the tiers were all there, these weren’t traditional wedding cakes by any means.

Some of us don’t like cake so much. Some of us would rather have a savoury snack than spend £300+ on a wedding cake. That’s fine… especially when, like Hannah and Ian, you can substitute pork pies (tiered – so they’re beautiful!) or a cheese selection. Yum, right?

A few weeks ago I had an email from the guys at The Fine Cheese Co. It’s been a couple of years since their last mention on the English Wedding Blog, and they offered to send me some cheese to sample and review for the blog. Who could possibly say no?!

Today’s beautiful bride Alexandra describes her wedding to Elikem as “a collage of vintage pastels, silver screen, Motown and total euphoria!” – don’t you just love that?! Their day was themed around Motion Pictures. “El and I are huge film fans so our invites looked like movie tickets and each table was named after one of our favourite films.”

Inspiring style with personal touches and a gorgeous vintage twist! A Bromley wedding by Teddy Pig Photography (2)

Due to the time of year I researched and suddenly came across the idea of having dried flowers which were so different. I had never seen a Bride before with dried flowers and the bouquets on The Artisan Dried Flower Company‘s website were stunning. The flowers really complimented El’s tweed suit too.

We wanted our wedding photos to be as natural as possible and to reflect our personalities. Kerry’s previous shoots from various occasions were original & fresh but with a vintage twist.

Some blogs are all about the blogger. Others are all about the content, the ideas and inspiration – and every day I try to make the English Wedding Blog all about YOU. I use this space to reach out to brides and grooms and to wedding suppliers; to introduce you to each other, and to inspire all of you with new ideas for creative weddings.

So it’s not about me. I like to think I just curate this beautiful space on the internet, with help from all of the lovely English Wedding Directory members, with input from brides and submissions from wonderful creatives throughout the UK. And there simply wouldn’t be a blog here if it wasn’t for all of your beautiful contributions.

The English Wedding Blog is YOUR space. I know how tough (and nerve-wracking) it can be to try and get featured on a major wedding blog. I don’t ever want that to be the case here, so I’m inviting you to write for us – and with every article we publish, we’ll include a link back to your website or social media channels. No strings attached!

2018 Naomi Neoh Celestial Collection on the English wedding blog (40)

Dreamy, swirling Italian tulle skirts and heavenly lace appliqué in the prettiest contemporary shades set Naomi Neoh‘s 2018 wedding dress collection aside in a world of its very own.

I adore the name: Celestial means ‘of the heavens’ – and this truly is an exquisite collection inspired by the natural beauty of the universe. The softest dusky mauve, silver blues, blush and pinks evoke that wonderful inbetween time as dusk falls; and delicate beading hints at distant constellations twinkling under early moonlight.

I’ve fallen hard for the Venus gown, for its gentle colouring and tumbling, cloudlike skirts.

The delicate sleeves of Skye’s gorgeous jacket catch my heart just as much – these are divine dresses for any bride and I can’t wait to see some of your real weddings with these breathtaking designs!

Thank you again to Claire for having me on the English Wedding Blog.  For those of you not following this monthly piece, I’m Jenna (Weddings by Jenna Hewitt) and I plan and style weddings for couples looking for a laid back luxury feel across the UK.  This time I’m talking the dress! How exciting! In fact surely this is the most fun part? The dress shopping is at least billed as fun, a lovely experience, but are you feeling a little overwhelmed at the prospect? Are you feeling the pressure to find something perfect? Back in July I had the pleasure of dress shopping with my lovely bride-to-be, Hannah and I thought I’d share a little bit about the experience and some advice on where on earth to start when searching for that dress!

Autumn wedding styling isn’t all about the pine cones, you know. I get it: they’re cute little things, with a dash of childhood nostalgia attached… but I think after years upon years of pine cone wedding styling they’re about to be pushed from the top spot – by the humble gourd!

Vibrant autumn colours and tons of styling ideas for a Notley Barn wedding with Amanda Karen Photography (22)

So many wedding traditions and styling ideas start in the US and gradually make their way over here. With all the budding excitement of Hallowe’en they start their pumpkins early over there… and the mini versions (gourds is a catch-all term for anything pumpkinesque, in my simple mind!) are colourful, cute and charming as hell. I love how Kate and Ali used them to style their day.

Kate and Ali got married at Notley Tythe Barn in Oxfordshire with a family friend working as a set designer lending her creativity and a very talented Mother of the Bride making the wedding cake for the happy couple. The bride and bridesmaids look stunning with bouquets in pastel tones and dresses in shades of dusky pink; copper and bronze accent colours hint at the fabulous styling of the reception venue and capture the spirit of autumn days.
