How about we start Tuesday with an EPIC wedding? Beautiful Abbie & Alastair’s London wedding is bursting with WOW moments – from the first time we see Abbie in her stunning Lynn Ashworth gown all the way through to the crazymazing dancefloor photographs full of joy! This is what weddings should be: a never-ending succession of moments of incredible happiness, love and connection. The day is captured by fabulous London wedding photographers MIKI Studios.

Miki studios were an absolute dream find. From the moment we first met them for our complimentary pre-wedding shoot, we realised they were not only exceptionally nice guys but also extremely talented and great fun to work with. They made us feel comfortable and relaxed and expertly balanced the requests of the bride / groom / family and friends! They even helped the bride and groom escape when the formal photos were becoming a bit too much! The images they produced are creative and beautiful and we would recommend them to everybody.

How was your weekend? I hope you’ve had a lovely relaxing couple of days – and of course, I hope you’re well, and staying safe at home. To distract and delight your eyes this morning I have the most wonderful wedding styling ideas to share with you. This is all about the peonies: glorious pinks and blush tones, texture and foliage, and it would smell just incredible! Huge thank yous to #englishweddingmember Sigi Kirkpatrick Photography for sharing her images with us today.

With love,

Botleys Mansion is a grand and exceptional wedding venue in Surrey, perfect for large wedding ceremonies and receptions. When designing the shoot, myself and the florist, Rebecca Ellis, wanted to create a spectacular floral display that highlighted the distinctive features of this beautiful setting. Together with the stylish surroundings, Rebecca’s creative skill combined to make a stunning shoot.

This is a guest article from our friends at Truly Experiences

As Forrest Gump’s mother wisely said “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” Looking at the current situation of the world, I think you’d agree she’s quite right.

Think back to a few months ago, when you were planning your wedding. Who would have thought that you’d be forced to change your wedding date until next year?

While I know it’s not exactly ideal, I’m a firm believer in another popular saying. “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” Just because your wedding isn’t happening on your original chosen date shouldn’t mean you shouldn’t give it the recognition it deserves! Think of it as your ‘-1 anniversary’ – your first wedding anniversary before you’ve even gotten hitched!

Rather than sulking around the house, thinking of the day you’d be walking down the aisle, use it as another day to celebrate your love. Here are some fun ways to celebrate your would-be wedding day on lockdown.

Isn’t it cold this week?! I’ve gotten so used to all the glorious sunshine I’m having to layer up in jumpers again until we get a second wave of SUMMER! But in the meantime I’ve this glorious August wedding for you, full of sunny tropical florals and vibrant colours, with images by lovely English Wedding member Tara at Pudding & Plum Photography. Alex and Pete’s day is wonderful with some fabulous styling touches, and still brilliantly real and down to earth. The gorgeous happy couple celebrated their day at their family home, with a marquee reception and lots of lovely personal touches.

I love these two because their wedding is just so personal and full of the things they love – all the food was locally sourced, the gin was home made and they had a beer keg wall (which is just awesome. Keg walls are the future!) There’s a photo of villagers outside the church with a home made drinks station which is so charmingly English – and then a London bus to take guests to the reception. They had a Fijian choir – Alex spent some time in Fiji – and the tiki print on the cake and table cloths are Fijian inspired. The tropical florals add so much colour to the day – even Flick the dog wears a little floral collar.

For those of you planning your 2021 and 2022 weddings… if you’re in a position to plan and book suppliers early, I implore you to do so. Your wedding will be hosted, captured, styled and celebrated by the amazing independent creative businesses that make the UK wedding industry the sparkling star it is. And we need your support. While the pandemic has us all locked down for now, established wedding vendors are working hard to stay strong and keep earning – and those early deposits and bookings could save us and our families from truly desperate times.

The English Wedding Directory is our curated list of brilliant independent UK wedding vendors. Our Insta is updated with new vendors when they join us, and the Directory is full of brilliant photographers, stationers, florists, stylists… everything you might need for the wedding of your dreams! These lovely people have become #englishweddingmembers in the last couple of weeks. Do take a moment to discover them, and if you like what you see why not get in touch and even book this weekend?

Not all weddings are created equal, folks… and on your planning journey you can expect to hear some ‘interesting’ opinions about things brides ‘should’ do / have and things grooms ‘should‘ say / wear… because the preconceptions about weddings are HUGE!

Opinions come from all sides: families, the more traditional suppliers, the wedding press (you know, the pink magazines which are all about brides?) – and they’re steeped in tradition. Weddings have so much patriarchal baggage it’s a journey in itself to tackle the preconceptions head on and come up with a day that’s just right for you both – in equal measures!

Smashing the patriarchy on your wedding day is about both of you. It’s about picking and choosing the traditions you’ll keep, and switching everything up to turn the more misogynistic rituals on their heads. Here’s some tips to make your equal wedding super awesome. We’ve dotted this post with some glorious images by super London wedding photographer Jordanna Marston, whose fun, vibrant, alternative wedding photography style fits this theme beautifully. You can check out Jordanna’s wedding portfolio here.

Morning lovelies! When this bridesmaids special landed in my inbox I thought it was a really sweet idea to share. Wedding days are special from the moment you wake up, and for those of you starting the day with your best girls you’ll make some really special memories for you all to treasure. Here’s a lovely reminder of what you all have to look forward to! This was sent in by hair and make up artist Kate Waller, who is based in Kent.

With love,

The morning of the wedding (for bridesmaids everywhere, with love) (6)

The shoot is for the bride and her bridesmaids. I wanted to do a shoot which showed a story of the morning of the wedding and how and what brides could use to make the best of the morning with her bridesmaids. I’ve included a breakfast, processco, silk robes, hair and make up being done, the wedding shoes being showcased and to the bridesmaids helping the bride with her dress before the ceremony. It’s such an exciting part of the day and a part that can be relaxing with moments to remember with the nearest and dearest…

Hey lovelies, how are you feeling after yesterday’s update? For me #stayathome still seems like the only possible way we can keep our loved ones safe – patience is the way to get there. Anyway… I have the loveliest wedding to share with you today. It’s a treat to be able to share these little reminders of ‘normal’ life: and Emma & Giles’s day had so many beautiful moments that make me smile. Their wedding style is classic and timeless, with some pretty personal touches (the little heather place settings are so cute!) and glorious images by our friends at Evolve Photography in Devon.

Stay safe, stay home. With love,

How did you choose your wedding photographer?

Evolve stood out to us when we performed website comparison and after seeing Mark’s portfolios that sealed the deal. We loved the way Evolve perfectly captured the emotion in each moment.

As today is my #lockdownbirthday I wanted to share something REALLY special – this stunning editorial by my lovely friend Jo Bradbury. Jo’s a super talented wedding photographer whose romantic editorial style I am head over heels in love with. And as I can’t escape to a French chateau for an idyllic birthday treat in real life, I’m loving that these images take me there virtually!

Have a wonderful day everyone,

French chateau romance, with Jo Bradbury Photography (3)

This dreamy shoot transports us to a beautiful French chateau, to idyllic dining ‘en plein air‘ via eucalyptus and olive foliage and soft summer sunshine. The styling is both wonderfully simple and natural, and exquisitely crafted – with breathtaking gowns by Joanne Fleming taking centre stage.

Joanne’s enchanting dresses are made for the setting, with the gentle light playing through sheer fabrics creating a stop-in-your-tracks kind of magic. The detailing on Joanne’s ‘Hanami’ blush tulle gown is breathtaking, fit for a modern princess and entirely handcrafted by Joanne in her bijou atelier in Brighton. The more I gaze at the embroidery, the more I fall in love with cherry blossom and springtime and all of nature’s gifts in this season of new life and joyful beginnings.

I’m missing writing calligraphy so much! Here are some of my favourite wedding calligraphy ideas for all of you 2021 couples out there. If you haven’t seen this side of me, as well as writing English Wedding I love to pick up my dippy ink pots and nibs and write handcrafted wedding stationery. I’ve been incredibly lucky over the last few years to work alongside some incredible creatives: photographers, stylists and of course my super talented illustrator friend, lovely Amy Swann.

By way of an introduction to my wedding calligraphy work, I’ve picked out three favourite collections from photoshoots with some amazing talents. I’d urge you to check out all of these suppliers for your day – every single one comes with a heartfelt recommendation from me!

All of these calligraphy invitation designs can be ordered as bespoke stationery pieces for your 2021 wedding, so please get in touch if you’re interested in something along these lines. You can contact me about your wedding stationery at calligrapherclaire@gmail.com

I bloody love this wedding – it’s full of love and laughter and FUN and hugs. There are belly laughs, there are beautiful styling touches. The setting is fabulous and the story of the day makes me smile. Oh, and Nicola and Alex are the most gorgeous couple! This is exactly how I imagine weddings after lockdown to be: the most amazing celebrations full of glorious contact and friendship and happiness. And the photos by super lovely (and major talented) Yorkshire wedding photographer John Hope tell the story of Nicola and Alex’s day beautifully.

Nicola & Alex's joyful festival and tipi wedding at Talton Lodge, with John Hope Photography (32)

Talton Lodge is a fantastic tipi wedding venue near Stratford-upon-Avon. Nicola & Alex were married outdoors beside ancient acacia trees with the backdrop of the beautiful gardens and 300 year old Talton House. The tipi structure here is up all summer long; they made the most of the space with Victorian fairground games, making the most of the bouncy castle and hiring a roaming band to jazz up the atmosphere.
