Two of the loveliest secrets to styling a romantic, feminine and timeless wedding are fabrics and foliage. Opt for luxe napkins and calligraphy place names instead of favours; and choose ferns, leaves and opulent foliage to create texture and include nature in your day. I’m so in love with this shoot by One Stylish Day – I hope you adore it too!

Soft, romantic blush and grey wedding table styling ideas by One Stylish Day (2)

Blush & Grey is pure and natural with a lightness of touch and sensual undertones, with the innocence heightened by using British florals, creeping foliage and ripe fruit.  Create the look by using antique silver cutlery and sparkling cut glass on tables, teamed with contemporary organic crockery for an indulgent feel.  Use flowers and foliage in abundance, letting them take over tables and trail to the floor.

Pale watercolour blush pink and soft dove grey give a dreamy quality to this look.  Soften the table décor by placing a handful of dried petals in antique silver trays and glass boxes.  When it comes to the cake, less is more; a simple and elegant duo of white wedding cakes with added flowers and fruit is chic and luscious.

Nearly all of my clients tell me that they want natural looking wedding photos, lots of real emotion, laughter and tears, and nothing too posed or cheesy looking.

Well, there’s no secret to achieving this: basically if you’re relaxed, stress free and having a great time on your wedding day then it’ll come shining through in your photos.

Here’s a few tips that you can put in place before the big day to help you get ready for a wonderful relaxed wedding.

Leave some breathing room in your timeline so that you don’t feel rushed.

In my experience most wedding timelines run behind by at least 15 minutes but normally more. If you pad your timings then everything you’ve planned will happen seamlessly and without stress.

For example, get into your dress 10 or 15 minutes before you think you need to as it always takes longer than you think.

So if you haven’t spotted this in the navigation menu at the top of the blog – I have a new thing. It’s so exciting for everyone here, and destined to be a wonderful, super-quick visual treat for all of you: a brand new wedding supplier directory for the English Wedding Blog.

So many amazing suppliers have featured on these precious pages of ours, and I wanted to build a place where you could find them – easily, quickly, and enjoyably. Every month I’ll introduce new Directory members on the front page of the blog, so you’ll know what’s new and discover new faces along with me!

Latest recruits to join this month include some wonderfully talented photographers whose style I love. Discover Teresa C Photography, based in the north west, and Ellie Lou Photography from Somerset – fabulous photographers and lovely, lovely people too!

While the English Wedding Blog Directory grows, I’d love to invite you to discover those suppliers who are already there: my friends, sponsors and supporters, a handful of my closest allies in the world of weddings. These early birds are some of our very favourite people….

Wonderful British flowers for a Cornish wedding inspiration shoot at Tregothnan with Olivia Bossert Photography (3)

I’m lucky being able to do what I do, travelling the country virtually through all the fabulous weddings and shoots which land in my inbox every day. Cornwall is one of my favourite parts of the UK and I’ve gotten to know some incredibly inspiring Cornish wedding suppliers over recent months. I adore discovering Cornwall’s coves and beaches – there seems to be something new and exciting around every corner of the landscape. To learn that there’s a beautiful botanical garden with acres of tea plantations was a wonderful surprise to me… the Tregothnan estate is the home of British tea, (who knew?! over a hundred acres of tea plantations!) and a perfect setting for today’s gorgeous wedding inspiration shoot filled with beautiful botanical styling. I adore the calligraphy by Megan Riera, and oh, that cake….

Hannah and Darren’s wedding is really pretty and the bouquet is wonderful – often a bouquet is what draws my attention to a wedding to share on the blog: I adore flowers and when a bouquet is this stunning it has to be shared! Beautiful bride Hannah made it herself, isn’t it fabulous? This intimate and stylish wedding with a big sprinkle of gold is right up my street and I hope you love it too!

Simple styling and elegant colours for a Newcastle city wedding with Andy Hudson Photography (9)

We didn’t really want a set theme or style, but as the planning got under way the wedding evolved into a base pallette of cream and gold, with a green foliage being the accent. We chose various textures of gold and cream throughout the table decoration, using natural wool, glitter and matte sprays as finishing touches.

Wonderfully creative Wild Bunch flower workshops, image Lisa Webb Photography (31)

One of my favourite things is seeing craft workshops, and when I saw images from a recent class by Wild Bunch I was hooked. If there’s one thing I’d urge you to do while planning your wedding, it’s to attend a workshop and learn something creative and wonderful – anything! I asked lovely photographer Lisa Webb if I could share these images with you, and I was thrilled when she said yes. I hope they inspire and brighten your day as they have mine!

Jack and Catherine’s wedding shone from my inbox – their images are so fabulously vibrant, and their day is full of joy, laughter and love. I adore Catherine’s bespoke dress, the floral styling and the ambience of the day which makes me smile every time I look at their photographs. This is amazing and I hope you love it as much as I do!

Garden party with a modern twist for a chic English wedding blog in Manchester with ZT Photography (32)

Our wedding flowers were arranged by Sian and the team at The Flower Lounge, Didsbury. We really cannot recommend them enough, their creations are absolutely stunning and they surpassed any expectations we had. We were overwhelmed by how beautiful the bouquets and table centre pieces looked.

We created a “draw your own self portrait”, inviting guests to draw a little doodle of themselves on a giant gold framed easel, as an alternative to a guest book. We sprayed jam jars gold to hold tea lights and flowers. We hung gold frames from trees so guests could pose behind them for selfies and filled a three tier garden planter with nibbles and treats to keep the guests going throughout the day. They went down really well and we enjoyed creating all the homemade elements of our wedding. Also, with it being late September we knew it could get a little chilly, so provided a basket of blankets to keep our guests warm and cosy.

This year has flown by – I’ve been burning the candle both ends and hopping around on a broken foot while I do it (I know – nightmare!). The new Directory and Shop on English Wedding are happily taking over my life and I can’t believe it’s going to be April in just a few weeks’ time! I’ll soon be taking to the road with my calligraphy workshops and I’m thrilled to say we’ve added a new date to our diaries. Would you like to join me on the 19th of May? It would be lovely to meet some of you… and of course there’s a discount for any pro photographers who’d like to join us and take some pics we can use on the blog over the summer. (Message me!)

I’ll be teaching at Manchester Craft & Design Centre from 1pm on Friday the 19th of May. The workshop is two and a half hours long, and in that time you’ll learn how to write a modern calligraphy script with a proper old school dip pen, nib and ink pot (all of which you can keep and take home in your calligraphy kit when we’re done!)

Morning lovelies! Would you care to join me for a little trip back in time, courtesy of lovely Lemontree Photography? We’re talking art deco wedding inspiration (with a wonderful modern twist) and fabulous gowns by Charlie Brear, Suzanne Neville and Chanticleer. This is all kinds of beautiful and I hope you love it too!

“It was important to us as suppliers to use modern elements that had a certain ‘feel’ for the 1920’s era. We wanted to avoid using vintage clothing and hair accessories, which were unlikely to be available for purchase. We literally wanted couples to stumble across the shoot and perhaps piece together what they loved from it, helping them create their own art deco wedding theme.

Dresses from Chanticleer, Charlie Brear and Suzanne Neville provided that unique touch of being modern, yet with a certain ‘feel’ for the 1920s. Brides of Winchester provided the beautiful wedding gowns for the shoot.

I know it’s too early to start talking about 2018 wedding trend predictions… but every time I see a shoot like this I want to sing from the rooftops! Darker colours are going to be big next year: we’ll see a dramatic shift from pastels and neutrals to really rich shades of everything. Midnight blues, moonlit greens and opulent plum colours with metallic accents are going to be the hottest trend going… and so today I’m thrilled to be sharing this gorgeous tablescape shoot by lovely Louise at One Stylish Day with you.

Moody Hues is dark, theatrical and bold, softened by layering deep shades of navy and mauve with black, and bathing the whole look in delicate candlelight. Create the look by using black crockery, gold cutlery and dark, elegant glassware, and team with long trailing black table linen to enhance the high drama effect.

Katherine and Calum’s wedding is such a beautiful one – this lovely couple were married in a cosy candlelit barn, served up comfort food and mulled drinks and used soft whites and styling touches for their winter wedding. The wonderful images are by Devon wedding photographer Lee Maxwell.

“My flowers were an informal posy of soft, blossomy white flowers (with touches of navy from some anemones). The bridesmaids had relaxed bunches of gypsophila. The florist was Earth Gallery Flowers, who were incredibly helpful in providing some initial advice as to what would work best and what was readily available in winter.

My wedding dress was by Catherine Deane, who creates beautiful, floaty, ethereal designs. The boutique where I found it was The Ivory Secret in Crediton – a gorgeous little shop run by the two most helpful ladies; it is like stepping into a dream. I had been to three shops and seen lots of dresses that I liked, but hadn’t had that ‘this is the one’ moment that everyone talks about. I was starting to dismiss it as a myth… until I tried on what eventually became my dress. Strangely, it wasn’t the one that I was most enthusiastic about when I saw it on the hanger, but as soon as I was in it I knew it was absolutely perfect.

Sally told me, “Nicola and Paddy were a really lovely couple to work with, really easy going and a joy to shoot for. They are so effortlessly natural & relaxed around each other & so clearly in love; it made it a pleasure to photograph them. After a busy season of summer weddings an autumnal wedding made for a nice change. Photographing Nicola & Paddy amongst the colours of the fall really gave this shoot a unique and warm feeling.
