The Great Barn wedding in Devon, photographer Holly Collings (33)

Good morning beautiful! Gin lovers – this one’s for you. (And who doesn’t, at lunchtime on a Saturday, right?!)  An elegantly styled, beautifully photographed, gin-themed wedding. If only we’d thought of that… gin connoisseurs Victoria and Adam were married in the Devonshire village of Ashton. They had bottles hanging over the reception venue’s entrance, sloe gin favours, and the tables were named after different gins. The amazing table plan, incorporating the bottles, was put together by Adam’s step Dad, who also made the church signs. The church was only a short walk from the drinks reception at The Great Barn, allowing a fiddler led procession from the ceremony to the drinks reception! The Great Barn has a stunning collection of buildings all set in beautiful grounds and gardens.

The barn is such a beautiful venue, we just added some decoration with the flowers and the gin theme. Making the gin wedding favours and the table plan put our stamp on the day. We planned our wedding in 8 months – I didn’t realise when we embarked on it what a challenge that would be. Having said that, wedding planning will take as long as you give it and having to be efficient and make decisions quickly made the planning stage more enjoyable for us!

If you love where you live, why not incorporate the essence of the place into your wedding day? You really can get married wherever you’d like nowadays – with the help of a celebrant you can say your vows on the beach, on a mountain top, on a boat, a lake… pretty much anywhere. I’m one of those lucky creatives who live close to the Lake District – and today’s blog post is all about bringing the spirit of a place into your wedding styling.

Previously featured on Love My Dress blog (thank you lovely Annabel!), this shoot was styled and brought to life by me! Sheryl from Oobaloos Photography came to stay, I asked a few more of my favourite suppliers from around the UK to help out, and I’m thrilled to say they did – and all brought their A game on the day!

Exquisite design and breathtaking photography is a part of that, and today’s feature is more than a little special for me.

Working alongside the uniquely talented Verona Lain Photography, I crafted the calligraphy pieces in today’s feature by hand using divine papers from Paperchase and a traditional dip pen and ink. (Join me for a calligraphy workshop in Manchester next Friday if you’d like to learn to write like this!) They fit so perfectly with the little details: the wonderful ring from the London Victorian Ring Co. in its adorable box by La Petit Box. The silk ribbons by Kate Cullen are, as always, the prettiest touch.

(For those of you who are new to the English Wedding Blog, hi! I’m Claire – I write the blog, and I also write calligraphy for weddings – you can find me at www.ByMoonandTide.com!)

I have the loveliest shoot for all of you dreamers out there today… Andy and Adam are the sweetest couple along with beautiful Buster – and their story is so romantic! They told me they met one night in a bar and hit it off instantly. “We broke all the rules and within a month we were living together. 4 months in, and Buster our baby (puppy) came along into our lives, and the rest is history as they say! Exactly 8 years after we met, we tied the knot and we’re currently preparing to embark on a honeymoon of a lifetime…

The proposal arrived from Adam on NYE 2012, after the fireworks rang in on a white sandy beach in Thailand… but, the fun stopped there!… Adam had borrowed the proposal ring and shortly lost it in the sand… 2 hours of searching for it went by, thankfully in the end the ring was found! We headed to a small local jeweller the next day, where we had personalised sterling silver rings made on the island where Adam proposed.

Esther and Sean got married at Manchester Town Hall  on 24.09.2017 and had their reception at Locke 91 in Deansgate Manchester.

Esther is a stylist and owns her own baby clothes boutique called Doris Little Boots. Esther hand made her veil herself and had her dress hand made. Her flowers were a beautiful dried bouquet and her other flowers from the day were from Flowers by Jemma Holmes.

Today’s elegantly styled wedding comes from Caswell House in the Cotswolds. Beautiful bride Kelley has written the loveliest interview for us and shared her recommendations for Cotswolds wedding suppliers, which will be unmissable reading for any of you lovely brides and grooms-to-be in the region. I adore the unusual florals with such a unique colour palette, Kelley’s gorgeous dress and the romantic atmosphere of the day. Images are by Jessica Davies, who told me “I loved the way that Kelley embraced the wintry theme, with a sprinkling of darker, seasonal florals and warming candles, yet managed to also keep everything feeling light and romantic, with the beautiful Cotswold’s stone, pale grey bridesmaids dresses and inclusion of baby’s breath flowers. Family was a huge part of the wedding, and Kelley’s father spent weeks designing and making the personalised wooden ring box which you’ll see in the photographs. Overall, I think it was one of the most smiley, joyful weddings I’ve ever captured.” ~ Jessica Davies Photography

I do love a venue with character, don’t you? Pretty blank canvas spaces are all well and good, but show me somewhere with a stage, balconies, pillars and old world charm… and I’m sold! Today’s wedding from Salomon’s Estate in Tunbridge Wells is unique, exciting and beautifully photographed by our friend and sponsor lovely Penny Young Photography. Amy is such a stunning bride; Carl her perfect match – and oh, those flowers too!

Carl hand made the giant ROPE letter lights over a few weeks, and they were popular with our guests and us – he enjoyed making them, and we had a bit of help from a few friends to finish them off, but when they turned into Disco lights in the evening it was great to see our new “name in lights” so to speak!

Gorgeous bride Polly married her handsome groom Ben at the end of last summer. It was a perfect, sunny day –  Polly actually had a beautiful, delicate parasol so she could keep the sun off it was so hot! The ceremony took place at the stunning Bishop’s Court near Exeter – a grade 1 listed country house with amazing gothic décor and beautiful grounds with roaming wild peacocks! The reception was held at Polly’s childhood home where a marquee had been decorated in origami cranes, all of which had been made by the bride and her friends! The present / card table also had a frame which showed a map of where they got engaged which was such a nice touch.

We didn’t have a theme as such. It was a country wedding and we were keen that it should be relaxed and fun. My husband tells me that he’s glad that he got involved in the wedding planning and that we made most decisions together. It meant that he knew what was happening when rather than feeling like a stranger at your own wedding.

When you’re planning your wedding, it can feel as if you’ve stumbled into a room where everyone is talking a language you don’t understand. There are conversations around dry hire, corkage, guipure, Mikado and so many other things besides. Of course, when it comes to your wedding photography, it’s exactly the same. Fine art, reportage, editorial and fashion… the list goes on. Well I’m here with a language lesson and I’m answering the question – can you have it all?

Let’s start with the terminology. Reportage photography has been a phrase that’s been used for a while now and it appeared around the millennium to mark out the ‘new style’ photographers of the time. Instead of a limited number of posed photos, reportage photographers documented the day as it unfolded, captured those ‘real’ moments and told the whole story of the day. Reportage is a documentary style, the shots are edited for sure but they’re also a little more ‘real’ and a little more ‘raw’ than other styles.

Hey lovelies! Has your snow melted? That has to be the last of it… and so we’re bringing you sunflowers on the English Wedding Blog today! This is a really pretty wedding with summer skies and a bright, warm sunflower theme. Yvette and Alan are gorgeous and their venue is just wow. Come and see their day at Glemham Hall, courtesy of our lovely friend and sponsor, Essex wedding photographer Ayshea Goldberg Photography.

“Yvette and Alan had a beautiful summer inspired wedding at the pretty village church in Little Glemham and then a short stroll over to the grounds of one of my favourite wedding venues in Suffolk – gorgeous Glemham Hall. Yvette looked radiant through her nerves – but as soon as she reached Alan in the church and a huge butterfly fluttered over their heads (surely a sign that her Nana was there) she completely relaxed and enjoyed every moment of her day.

Ah, Monday – would you allow me to wear my pyjamas just a little longer while I blog? It’s been a busy old weekend here at English Wedding HQ and I’m just a little sleepy… and yes, I know it’s nearly lunchtime! How was your weekend? Anyways, I have the loveliest wedding style ideas for you today – from my lovely friend Sheryl at Oobaloos Photography in Cheltenham. Sheryl stepped in at the last minute to capture this beautiful photoshoot from Lords of the Manor Hotel, a former 17th century rectory situated in the heart of the idyllic Cotswolds countryside. I was thrilled when she asked me if I’d send one of the new invitation suites we’re now selling in the English Wedding Shop (go see!) and I’m just over the moon to be sharing all of these lovely images today.
