So today is the day I’ve decided to wear a red dress when I get married. I’ll have to un-blue my hair a little, but it will be so worth it. I just love how incredible Liz looks in this red dress. She is absolutely captivating, beautiful – everything a bride should be and then some. And the colour flows through the entire day with pretty florals and accents of red dotted around the decor and styling for this beautiful Pencoed House wedding. Definitely one of my favourite weddings of the year, and I hope you love it as much as I do!

The flowers were amazing and created with such love. My mum did them and she spent months gathering small vases from charity shops to build up colour collections. Some flowers were from a florist, but others we picked together.

Today’s inspiration feature is wonderfully stripped back, individual and super beautiful – from a group of small independent wedding suppliers at Lainston House.

“We wanted to involve smaller independent suppliers, Karolina Grycko who made the cakes, White Designs BridalHampshire Slate, and Byootefel. Having the opportunity for them to work alongside established talent like Brides of WinchesterLittle Lillies and Hayley Savage Photography, who was our photographer for the day, was a great collaboration opportunity for everyone involved.

We choose Lainston House as the venue for the photo shoot, as it is the most beautiful backdrop and has such a variety of places to shoot. The woods in the ground were perfect for our “ceremony” and really captured the essence of the shoot; rustic, simple and about two people dedicating their lives to each other.

We asked Owen at Little Lillies for bouquets that were individual, wild and free. Giving him a brief colour palette to work with he came up with two absolutely stunning creations for our brides. Him working organically on location was a joy to witness!

I adore today’s shoot, which really celebrates the end of summer… the details and styling are beautiful and I love the setting: a gorgeous ‘working’ greenhouse full of life and growing things. Perfect for the beginning of your new life together, don’t you think?

Every little detail works so beautifully in this shoot: from the abundant florals to the gorgeous hair accessories by one of my fave designers, lovely Clare at Vintage Button Bridal Designs. The stationery is elegant and timeless, the cake sweet as can be. It all makes me feel as though summer is a neverending adventure!

There will be plenty of times during the planning stages of your wedding where things get a little bit tricky and you feel like throwing in the towel. You may think that you are the only one experiencing this, but trust us when we say that most couples struggle with exactly the same dilemmas!

Your wedding entertainment in particular is such an important part of your day and your wedding experience as a whole. Here are 5 of the most common wedding entertainment dilemmas that we deal with most often – and exactly how to solve them.

1. Band or DJ?

Probably the most common quandary you’ll face is this age old bone of contention. A good DJ will know how to read a crowd and will be armed with the perfect tracks to keep the dance floor alive. They can often be more cost effective than a live band but can also be less engaging. If you want to hear all your favourite tracks on the night then a DJ is a great choice as they are extremely accommodating to your tastes!

I love the way these dresses combine the simplest of lines with a touch of sass and modern, geometric patterns in the side panels and sleeves. They’re exquisite – truly different from any other dresses I see. The lingerie… just so, so beautifully feminine and delicate. Otaduy, you’ve won our hearts!

Have you ever considered a destination wedding in the UK? Gathering up your nearest and dearest and spending a weekend somewhere beautiful, idyllic and romantic? There are so many spots you could discover and get married in without having to fly / transport all your wedding bits & pieces overseas – and lovely Tyn Dwr Hall is one.

I would love to travel more, to adventure to far-flung countries like some of my photographer friends do. It makes me smile to see my calligraphy heading to Australia, Norway, Italy, the States and Japan while I write away in my little home office! But I love the land I’m lucky enough to live in, and I’d always choose a UK destination to say my vows.

So it’s with a happy heart I want to introduce you to one of Wales’s most beautiful venues today. As often happens, I’m following my calligraphy’s journey – I wrote on Amy Swann‘s beautiful stationery designs earlier this year, and the lovely people at Tyn Dwr asked for samples to showcase on their open day.

Alison and Gerald are brilliant – their flowers are fabulous and their wedding mixes classic styling touches with a sense of timelessness and Hollywood glamour. The pearl strings and champagne table settings are a lovely idea – and everything about their day at the Bull Hotel in Gerrards Cross is pretty, feminine and super romantic.

I love seeing couples getting married later in life. I think Alison and Gerald’s wedding has its own kind of magic: and they look perfect together, don’t you think? Beginning a new journey together as husband and wife is a wonderful thing to do, no matter if you’re twenty-something or fifty-something – and the smiles on our bride and groom’s faces prove that marriage is just as exciting at any stage in life.

If you saw my last post here on the English Wedding Blog you’ll know I love extending a wedding celebration to an entire weekend. So many couples after their wedding day will say that it went way too quickly, so why not consider adding a Friday evening welcome drinks and BBQ or Sunday walk and brunch?

All images by Jason Williams Photography – this gorgeous wedding will feature here on Friday!

Love the idea of extra time with your guests but wondering how to do it without breaking the bank? Here are a few tips!

Pick a venue with flexibility

If you are in the early stages of planning, look at venues which allow you to hire them from Friday until Sunday. Personally, I love a country house wedding and there are so many that allow you to have the venue for the entire weekend.

Often with these venues they give you flexibility and aren’t as expensive as you might think, they also allow you to bring in elements yourself, like your own bar which saves on costs.

Hey lovely! I hope you have some lovely bank holiday plans, and you’re making the most of the last day of the weekend!! We’re on our way back from a little Welsh adventure this afternoon, and I’m excited to get back to blogging this week (I have some gorgeous features lined up!) but first – an absolutely beautiful wedding from Gloucestershire which I know you will LOVE!!

Rebecca and Laurence’s wedding took place at St Peter & St Paul Church of Northleach followed by a marquee reception. This was a very relaxed wedding with a Pimms garden party, band, gorgeous venue decor and a cake made by the couple’s friends.

The flowers were a huge joy. My best friend Kate loves flowers and had helped out with another wedding, so she reassured me we could do it ourselves. The ladies who arranged our church flowers were incredibly helpful and kindly agreed to pick up some extra bunches and offered to condition them (very important and we couldn’t have done it otherwise). We ordered blue hydrangea, cornflowers, irises, pink roses and delphiniums and used a lot of greenery from our mums’ gardens. The Friday before it was all hands on deck, me, Kate and helpers making large arrangements and jam jar centrepieces while two more friends laid the tables. We used lavender and rosemary sprigs, freshly picked, on the napkins which gave a lovely scent.

I was really interested to read a couple of weeks ago that Jenny Packham wouldn’t be launching her bridal collections via catwalk shows. Her decision makes so much sense to me: for years I’ve seen – and mostly rejected – bridal designers’ submissions where all I see is dress after dress photographed under harsh lighting, against a dull background, surrounded by the ankles and handbags of boutique owners and stockists (sat either side of the catwalk, but still in shot). It was all very meh, (even in the days when meh was a new word!).

Jenny Packham 2018 Bridal Collection fall autumn - English Wedding Blog (12)

So to hear that one of our favourite international designers is stepping away from this kind of imagery and launching a campaign with a digital focus is wonderful news. It supports the wedding blog world; Jenny is looking to share beautiful imagery of her 2018 bridal collection online. And the photos are beautiful – they do her designs justice by showcasing the dresses against an elegant backdrop, hinting at a stately home or glamorous hotel where real brides are more likely to wear these beautiful creations in real life.
