I love sharing good news! Today it’s a quickie, to let you know we have a winner for English Wedding Blog’s Paper Themes competition. A few weeks ago I launched a competition with the guys at Paper Themes, to win £150 of wedding invitations from their collection.

Congratulations to Alex from Bristol!

The lucky winner was Alex from Bristol. Alex’s wedding theme is white, silver and black, and I have it on very good authority from the competition organisers that she’s chuffed to bits to have won!

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition. I hope you find gorgeous wedding invitations, whether from Paper Themes or elsewhere. Have another look at the collection from Paper Themes or see wedding invitations from English Wedding Blog sponsors here: http://english-wedding-showcase.com/wedding-invitations-and-stationery/

And if you’re a wedding supplier with a competition up your sleeves, give me a shout! I love it when people win things on English Wedding – makes us all happy 🙂

Morning! I have to confess, this is how I often spend my Sundays: either finishing off calligraphy for a wedding, writing address labels or photographing and packing orders ready to catch the post on Monday. Even before I start working on English Wedding Blog!

Today I have added a little research to my list of jobs, and thought it might help some wedding suppliers out there who are – like me – looking for fresh and innovative ways to photograph wedding products.

Beautiful wedding product photography examples

I’ve spent an hour or so wandering around the internet looking for gorgeous and inspiring wedding product photography. I have 36 menus to photograph today, and I wanted to see what backdrops people are using; whether it’s still popular to include flowers to brighten up an image, if people are still propping things up with vintage teacups etc… and to get some at-a-glance wedding product photography tips.

I keep reading the phrase “wedding vendors” on British wedding websites. It makes my eyes itch. It’s a word which isn’t commonly used in English over here; we’re used to talking about wedding suppliers and wedding businesses instead. And anyway: it sounds funny.

I don’t consider myself a wedding vendor. It makes me think of vending machines on station platforms. Pop 50p in my ear and poke me, and a wedding place card will pop out of my mouth… no! I don’t “vend” my products – I write, design and sell them. Buying calligraphy isn’t as soulless as buying a Mars Bar or a can of Coke.

OK, so I’m not setting out to offend anybody here. I love wedding blogs as much as I love the English language. And therein lies my dilemma…

Charlotte Garratt – owner and designer at Charlotte Bridal – sent me this guest blog post about copyright in wedding design and I knew it had to be on English Wedding Blog. Have you ever asked a wedding supplier, “I’ve seen this on another website: can you do one similar?” It’s not a good idea. Charlotte explains why – and she does it thoughtfully and eloquently.

Hello lovely readers! Recently I’ve been getting a lot of requests along the lines of “I’ve found my dream dress but it’s way out of my budget…could you make me one similar?”. I understand that weddings are really (sometimes stupidly) expensive and every couple should look at ways they can make savings, but I have to tell you this is not the way to do it. There are a number of reasons why.

I wrote a discussion post on English Wedding Blog recently about wedding inspiration shoots: the ones I love are either creative and challenging, or offer real ideas which couples can actually use in planning their wedding. Of course – they should look damn good too. So here’s one I think you might find really inspiring – all centred around a vintage feather fan… gorgeous. Thanks to the lovely Fabienne from Elian Concept Weddings for sharing!

An inspirational wedding idea: vintage feathers

This photoshoot was inspired by the beautiful vintage ostrich feather fan with mother of pearl sticks, discovered in ‘All About Eve At Home’ shop, a delightful place full of vintage pieces and jewellery, as well as a enchanting selection of items for the home, which owner Melanie sources mainly in France’s antique fairs and markets.

The idea to use a fan instead of a ‘bouquet’ came from a bride who purchased one of Melanie’s ostrich feather fans for her own wedding.

As a bit of a paper-lover, I love discovering and playing with new wedding invitations – and when Gary from Special Day Invitations asked if I’d like to try my hand at reviewing some of their cards, I was delighted!

Wedding invitations from the UK: Special Day Invitations

My favourite designs from Special Day Invitations are from their vintage category. The designs are in soft colours with nice typography and a range of themes – from peacock feathers to simple type with flourishing.

The Mr & Mrs invitation was a favourite for me, also the True Love design at the top of this blog post – and prices start around the £1 mark for flat invitations. It’s an affordable way to buy wedding invitations to suit a vintage theme.

The first ‘official’ visitors to English Wedding Blog HQ arrived this weekend… my lovely sponsors, Cheshire wedding photographers and friends Tory and Jamie of Vickerstaff Photography had come further than most on a weekend escape, arriving in the best part of the Lake District – the quiet, charming and idyllic west coast. And they popped in for tea, totally making my weekend! They’re two of the nicest wedding photographers in the North West – and I believe English Wedding Blog HQ was met with approval, cats and all!

Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities so when I saw where we were going and the hotel I cried.
