Oh, my. SnapBox would like me to share a piece of blatantly rubbish research, which they claim means wedding photographers are on the way out. Even reading the press release this morning made my eyes bleed! So I can’t resist sharing what they’ve sent me, but I’ll draw my own conclusions to share with you! Today’s blog feature is going to be about two things then:

  1. The importance of hiring a good, experienced wedding photographer whose work you love
  2. The importance of reading biased research with an inquiring mind and never taking ridiculous statements from marketeers as fact

Shall we begin? 🙂 The press release from SnapBox is in grey text, and my responses are in a suitably hot pink! I’ve corrected some of their typos as well. Enjoy. Claire xxx

Morning everyone! What a week it’s been – do you have lovely plans for the weekend? I hope so 🙂 I’m happy to be sharing a really wonderful wedding on the blog today and I hope you’ll love it. Claire and Damon were married in Surrey – their wedding at Wotton House made the most of an elegant and classical 17th century English country home. The images show a perfect wedding day, and bride Claire is breathtakingly beautiful.

I’d love to begin today’s wedding blog with a quote from beautiful bride Izabel. She told me, “The day was beautiful and everything that we wanted it to be. It was a reflection of us to the letter.

very personal wedding blog UK Tony Gameiro (1)

My years as a top UK wedding blogger have shown me over and over and over again that the very best thing a wedding can have is personality. And Izabel and Shane wove their own journey as a couple into their wedding in beautiful and touching ways: “Glass bottle coke and humous, our go to nibbles and drinks in the early days of our getting together. Coffee and ice cream, the two things we walked across London for as we started dating. East London and the Regent’s Canal, our home and the place we began. We really wanted the day to show my Filipino and Dutch heritage as well as Shane’s Irish and Welsh background. Everyone thought we chose our wedding colours, green, orange, grey because of the Irish and Dutch, but that only occurred to us later in the planning process. All aspects of the day just had meaning to us and our story and our family and guest really got the day and our story.”

Hats off to Coca-Cola for their ingenious marketing with names on Coke bottles and the oh-so-unsubtle “share a Coke with friends” slogan. Brilliant. Coke bottles are plastered all over Facebook this summer!

calligraphy bottle labels personalised (1)I still haven’t found one which says Claire, and my boyfriend was briefly Edward on one thirsty summer afternoon because we couldn’t find a Steve either. I think he quite enjoyed it. But what about the printed labels? They’re OK I guess… but I had a better idea.

Coke bottles are nice, but with a little imagination you can create something really fantastic by putting everyone’s names on individual bottles!

Hey again! How are you? As I sit to blog today’s feature wedding I can remember the first time I saw Natalie and Gareth’s photos and I would love for you to share the whole experience with me… so if you fancy it, listen along to the soundtrack with me! Wedding photographer Tracy Morter got in touch and told me their first dance was to Jack Johnson’s ‘Better Together’ – a song I love to bits! So click on the song title to listen while you scroll through the photos and read Natalie and Gareth’s wedding report 🙂 I’m listening as I type!

It’s another beautiful wedding too – with a stunning Amanda Wyatt dress, stationery by wedding blog favourites Artcadia and a focus on celebration, food, entertainment and dancing… just a perfect wedding! The venue is The Boatyard restaurant in Leigh On Sea (Essex) and all the images are by my friend and fab photographer Tracy Morter.

Hi everyone! Have you spotted the new colour theme on English Wedding Blog? I’ve tweaked a few things so titles and sidebars on the blog look a bit more subtle and pretty – but not too girly. What do you think? I have more changes up my sleeves* so stick around or subscribe to see more new and exciting things on the blog very soon! Today though, I’m introducing a new sponsor of the English Wedding Blog, and the first of its kind – Ware Priory wedding venue in Hertfordshire.

*and yes, as I type it’s sleeve weather once again in the Lake District. Can’t complain as we’ve had such gorgeous sunshine for weeks 🙂

Every now and then I’m lost for words when I try and introduce a wedding on the blog. Today I’m dumbstruck! I’ve just read through Kate and Jamal’s wedding report and scrolled through their gorgeous images – too many to choose from! Already I’m overexcited about showing you their English Asian wedding blog. This is Kate – isn’t she beautiful?

As with all Asian weddings there’s more exciting colour than the average vintage wedding, so it leaves me grinning happily at the prospect of showing you photos! The venues are sublime and add timeless atmosphere and contemporary chic to the story of Kate and Jamal’s day. Their wedding report is amazing – I love the bit about Jamal’s niece’s infectious belly laughs during the speeches… watch out for it!

It’s the images which leave a fabulous aftertaste for me though – the elegance of the wedding styling, the vibrance of the colours and the breathtaking venues. I just know you’re going to love this wedding blog. Huge thanks to lovely Peter and Sara from Pixies in the Cellar for submitting their images, and massive hugs and congratulations to beautiful bride Kate and gorgeous groom Jamal for the wedding report. Just brilliant, all of it… enjoy! Claire x

Hands up who really knows what reportage wedding photography means? It’s a phrase I hear all the time as a wedding blogger, but I see photographers using the term in different ways and it all gets confusing. This morning I couldn’t have explained what was meant by reportage, photojournalistic or documentary wedding photography. Can you?

Give it five minutes and you will 🙂

Most importantly of all, can you see the difference between an ‘action snapshot’ and good reportage photography?

Read this and you will 🙂

What exactly is reportage wedding photography?

My friend and sponsor of the English Wedding Blog, Andrew from Lightworks Photography Cambridge, has written a lovely article all about reportage photography. He explains clearly and engagingly what you should be looking for, and the mistakes a less experienced photographer will make.

It’s an article guaranteed to make you smile too. I’m half tempted to phone Andrew up just to hear his Franglais… imagining Joey from Friends – remember that? Definitely worth a read on Andrew’s blog. Enjoy!

The two themes of countryside and vintage often tangle and twist together to create the most wonderful wedding styling. There’s something amusingly accurate in this: step into the local village hall for any kind of fayre or event and it really is like stepping back in time! It’s a good job we have wedding blogs to show how gorgeous ‘vintage’ styling can look…
