The neckline of Alicia’s wedding dress is just wonderful: on such a graceful and glamorous bride, this dress couldn’t be more perfect… and so sets the scene for today’s beautiful wedding blog. Alicia and Seb were married at Knowlton Court in Kent, celebrating their day with friends and family in the summer sunshine.

Images are by the very lovely Steven Dungate of Duntons Photography. Steven describes the day as ‘an epic wedding to photograph‘! and my goodness, isn’t it just… from the historic church to the deliciously decorated wedding venue, this is a wedding to inspire you in so many ways.

Knowlton Court wedding blog (7)Alicia is an incredibly beautiful bride, and her wedding dress beyond exquisite. I adore the lace panel, the daringly low neckline and Alicia’s long, flowing skirt – and I’m so proud to be sharing her wedding to Seb on the English Wedding Blog today.

Hey everyone! Do you like the new look English Wedding Blog? I’m delighted with the new header image from lovely Joseph Hall Photography and pleased to have such a fresh and sunny look for the blog this week. I hope you love it too! I’m soooo busy in my little craft studio this morning getting ready for The Handmade Fair (are you coming?) – but quickly wanted to tell you about a feature I’ve had published by Hello Magazine in their brand new Wedding Hub.

DIY rustic wedding ideas (22)

Matilde from Hello! asked me for my best tips for an outdoor wedding, and I shared 10 styling ideas for a rustic wedding – helped enormously by the gorgeous images from Karen Flower Photography!

DIY rustic wedding ideas (27)

My top 10 outdoor wedding style tips, in a nutshell:

  1. DIY a rustic backdrop and keep the theme going with table decor
  2. Mix tones and textures for a rustic look
  3. Create your own rustic DIY wedding tablescape
  4. Choose a bouquet which fits the rustic outdoor theme

Hey there everyone! Did anyone else forget it was a Bank Holiday and get up early for work? Oops… but never mind, because I have the loveliest of weddings to share with you today, courtesy of Newlywed Films. Danielle and Steve were married at Hedsor House early this summer, and their wedding is fabulous. They planned their day to run smoothly and selected some of the prettiest details: a stunning dress, a fabulous designer tiered cake with roses and beautifully constructed rose boquets… you’ll adore this.

Their cake is a real stunner: its elegant tiers with pale roses look exquisite. In the church, pew ends are decorated with bunches of baby’s breath: one of the prettiest trends for 2014. Danielle and Steve had banqueting tables for their wedding breakfast, with pretty floral table decorations, in a beautifully tranquil room at Hedsor House which breaks none of my rules about carpets or chair covers! The white hydrangea floral displays for the top table are divine!

It makes a nice change to focus on the men in our lives on the English Wedding Blog – and while I try and include everyone in all of my features, and advocate planning your day as a couple, men often take a back seat when it comes to wedding planning. Not today though! Yesterday I shared some brilliant advice for grooms choosing light and wearable summer suits. Now I’d like to offer a little help to all the guys out there who’ll be guests at a wedding this summer. With thanks to Liam from A Suit That Fits for writing and sharing today’s blog article. Enjoy!

Most men struggle to decide on what to wear as a guest at a summer wedding. Now, we’re not implying you outshine the groom, but cutting a dash as part of the congregation is good. Whether it’s a country wedding, a beach wedding or a more formal city wedding you will want to look your best.

Despite the odd hailstone in August, I think we had a pretty good summer this year. I’ve seen some wonderfully sunny weddings and I’m sure there’ll be plenty more to show with you through September and October! For today though, I have been thinking about grooms and suits: because isn’t it a bit hot wearing a shirt, waistcoat, jacket and tie for a summer wedding? There’s a lot to say for creative groomswear: personally I love a groom in jeans, shirt and no jacket… but that’s not for everyone. Most couples love the idea of dressing up in full wedding gear, waistcoats, pocket watches and all… so I asked Hayley from A Suit That Fits for some practical summer groomswear advice.

Hey lovely! Happy Friday… and before we begin, lots of love to two of my brides: lovely Sophie whose mirror calligraphy was my project of the week, and lovely Ruth who asked me for a marriage certificate and then place name cards in calligraphy. Girls, I hope you get the gorgeous sunshine you’re hoping for! This morning though, let’s admire Nicole and Glen’s vintage wedding from Nettlestead Place in Kent.

With two wonderful historical venues, today’s gorgeous couple simply couldn’t resist a vintage theme. Nettlestead Place was perfect for their ceremony, and The Plough at Leigh was beautifully decorated for a welcoming and pretty reception. The flowers are everywhere, and really make the most of a lovely room. Nicole’s hair with little flowers is just fabulous, and she’s a picture perfect bride. Glen is her perfect match, and together they created a charming reception which I’ve been so excited to show you.

I was having a fascinating – albeit brief – discussion with a wedding photographer the other week. It was one of those discussions which I could have carried on for hours, sadly cut short by distance and time… email’s not as easy as a proper chat after all. BUT it got me thinking and I haven’t been able to put this one down.

We had a lot in common. Let me begin with photography: I said something about “a ‘bloggy’ image – something crafty or a portrait with flare from the sun” – one kind of image I have a total weakness for. He was quick to reply with a positive comment about making images interesting and enticing for blog readers, but told me “flare from the sun is technically inept photography“. I never knew… although it does make sense, in a way.

Hey lovely! It’s been the most amazing summer already and time has flown here – I’ve been ever so excited to show you a styled bridal shoot from a few weeks ago, one which really spoke to my creative side and taught me so much about wedding styling.

Styled shoots are one of my favourite things about being a wedding blogger. My friends who are planning their weddings love them too: they inspire our blogs, fire our creative sides and get us hooked on Pinterestand in so doing they quietly sow the seeds for real weddings.

Have you ever seen a bouquet you just love, Pinned it and then discovered it was from a styled shoot with dozens and dozens more ideas to steal your heart? I have… it happens all the time with wedding blog features and I think wedding photographers, stylists and designers are the best for having the vision to create new and exciting shoots all the time.

I dream of the days I spent living and working in Italy. The long, sunny evenings and romantic train rides through lush countryside feel like a dream now – and so when I see an Italian wedding I can’t resist the glorious romance of it all.

Hey everyone! What a week it’s turning out to be… after a weekend of adventures and escapades with all of my favourite peope I’m settling down with a hot chocolate and a cookie to share some really great features on the English Wedding Blog this week. First off, I’m truly delighted to introduce you to lovely Steven Dungate, aka Duntons Photography.

You’ll remember Steven from Emma and Matthew’s church hall wedding on Saturday – his images of their day were just divine. Now I’d like to introduce you to the man behind the camera: a wedding photographer based in Kent, working in London, Sussex and beyond. Steven says, “I am passionate about capturing those special milestones that serve as the bookmarks to the stories of our lives. I pride myself on my unobtrusive approach to photography and believe this is the only way to capture an image 100% truthfully to the moment it was taken in.

There are too many things I love best about today’s gorgeous couple Samantha and Lee: the fact they found out the day before the wedding that Samantha was pregnant (wow!); their budget advice to simply “blow it!” and the beautiful, enchanting images of their day by my friend Jamie from Vickerstaff Photography.

Merewood hotel Windermere wedding (18)

The venue is wonderful (and not far from English Wedding Blog Towers!) with views over Lake Windermere; a little boy almost steals the show with his hobby horse (adorable!) and the entertainers clearly had everyone enthralled.

With huge thanks to today’s very beautiful bride and groom, Samantha and Lee, and to Jamie from Vickerstaff Photography for sharing his images with us all. You’ll love them.
