Lucinda

Sassi Holford is most certainly amongst the finest of British bridal designers, and she has recently launched her 2015 signature wedding dress collection from her Somerset base.

I’ve chosen my favourites from the new collection to share with you today. I hope you love them as much as I do. The elegant, romantic shapes make Sassi’s designs stand out from the crowd. I’ve always admired sweeping skirts and softer fabrics so my favourites are Lucinda and Maya by a mile… although the sparkle of Leah has a fabulous wow factor I can’t wait to see at a real wedding!

Happy Sunday my lovely! I hope you’re having a chilled-out day and keeping snuggly and warm with your other half… I love Sunday mornings in autumn for doing just that! So while you’re snuggling and surfing the web let me show you these lovely invites for a natural, boho or woodland wedding.

Natural style wedding invitations with calligraphy print (5)

Printed wedding invitations from £2

They’ve been designed especially for more natural styled weddings – the biggest trends in 2014 were outdoor weddings, natural styling and woodland themes, and this invitation suite reflects all of those. The lettering is playful and pretty, with your names created in handwritten calligraphy and then scanned and reprinted onto the invites. Text is in a charming handwritten font, with a natural flower & leaves illustration to decorate the finished invite. All of these elements carry through to your on the day stationery to make sure everything is consistent and your guests get a real idea for the style of your day.

Karen and Dan’s wedding has that timeless elegance which really typefies an English wedding. They married in Hampshire in early autumn at the fabulous Tylney Hall, and styled their day with the palest and prettiest white and pink flowers and details.

Their wedding photographer was lovely Steven Anthony, who is based in London. Steven told me, “It was a beautiful day at Tylney Hall, Hampshire and I think it typified everything great about an English country wedding. White Rolls Royces, string quartet, a master of ceremonies and a beautiful bride in a Stewart Parvin dress.

Everything about today’s real wedding oozes classic British style, with such elegant decor in a beautiful country setting. I hope you love sharing their day!

Blog awards, I’m sorry to say, don’t light my fire. While the email telling me I’d been nominated for a UK Blog Award came with a frisson of something, it lasted no more than a fraction of a second before I realised how little these things mean.

I’m all about my readers and the wedding suppliers I discover and share. I’m not out there to compete with other wedding bloggers – the English Wedding Blog has its own niche and all I want is to make this a lovely place for you to visit, enjoy, find suppliers and ideas and advice. What would I do with an award?

Besides, I’ve never been one for schmoozing around in a cocktail dress telling people how brilliant I am. Any networking I do is informal: I love floating around at styled shoots, meeting for coffee and cakes (and peppermint tea) and supping a wine at the end of the day with my creative friends.

Wedding discount websites make me sad. Very occasionally they also make me angry… and a few weeks ago I promised on my facebook page I’d share the full text of an email exchange I had with a new wedding discount site called Bridea. First let me explain why wedding discount sites should be avoided.

Three reasons to avoid wedding discount sites

  1. They give the impression you can afford more ‘things’ for your big day.
But if you’re on a budget, it’s always better to cut down on the things you need. Rather than having a cheap cake and cheap flowers, choose one or the other and do it well.
  2. You really do get what you pay for.
If it looks too good to be true, it is. Trust me!
  3. Discount sites harm small businesses.
In the wedding industry most suppliers are sole traders and independent crafters. We’re not Aldi: we can’t afford to slash prices.

Hey there beach brides! Today’s feature is for you – from our own fair shores I have a fabulous seaside styled shoot to share. There are ideas here for every girl who’d love a beach wedding – and all from local wedding suppliers too!

Beach bride styling on the Dorset coast with Charlotte Bryer-Ash (25)

Wedding photographer Charlotte Bryer-Ash told me what inspired her to create this shoot, which she planned together with Rachel from Exquisitely You. It’s all about clean, minimal styling with a relaxed seaside feel. I adore the backdrop – a simple timber frame with soft fabric is just perfect for the beach setting.

Being a beach bride means embracing nature. Combine rustic elements for a minimal and relaxed wedding style. Soft colours and textures reflect the romance of the sea. Clair Lythgoe uses a lush peach dahlia as a centrepiece for a stunning bridal bouquet edged with cascading green amaranthus. Opt for wooden cake stands and table decor as the team did on today’s shoot, and be creative with your cake if you’re having one. Twists of raffia complement roses and hydrangeas for a gorgeous design with colours and textures.

Amy and Grant were married in Kent in an intimate ceremony for family and friends, and chose a pretty style with classic and vintage elements to make their wedding day really personal. Amy’s dress is ever so pretty, with a lace bodice and delicate sparkle around the neckline with a jewelled belt. She accessorised it beautifully with a birdcage veil and feather, and silver drop earrings.

Amy’s flowers were classic pink roses with gypsophila – simple but pretty and colourful. The venue was decorated with tissue paper poms and streamers strung across the ceremony room – a key theme for 2014 and always eye-catching and decorative – I think it looks lovely. Images are by lovely Andrew from Howling Basset Photography (based in Kent).

Kelly and Phil’s springtime wedding has some of the loveliest touches I’ve seen – it’s a beautiful day with fabulous colours, and I know you’ll love it. Kelly and Phil chose a rustic, woodland style for their day.

The ceremony and reception were held at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire, and in the wedding report at the end of today’s feature Kelly and Phil have shared links to some fabulous local suppliers.

Kelly looks absolutely amazing in her Ronald Joyce wedding gown, and I adore her bridal look – there’s an image towards the end of the feature with the newlyweds sat on a wall in the venue’s grounds where you can see the full length of the dress, and it’s so incredibly beautiful…

Higher gorges make a man look longer, apparently. Oh, and you should always tuck your vest in. Preferably into your pants…

These are just two of many fascinating things I’ve learned from TM Lewin this morning. Another is that if I had to buy a wedding suit I wouldn’t have the foggiest where to start. I didn’t even know for sure what ‘made-to-measure’ and ‘bespoke’ really meant. So while I don’t often feature this kind of visual blog post, today is a worth exception. Buying a bespoke suit? You’ll need 2 months, at least 2 fittings, and an idea of the style you’re looking for…

Today’s bride Louise has a smile which could light up any room – she’s stunning. She’s also a real star for writing an amazing wedding report and sharing tips and experiences of her day.

Louise married Gary in April this year, and their Manchester & Cheshire wedding was gorgeous, but not without incident. Louise told me their wedding cake didn’t quite go to plan (read about that later); also there were tears as her Grandad had to go to hospital after a fall on the day but this fantastic family all came together and made the wedding a day to remember.

The styling of the day is beautiful. Louise told me their reception venue – The Pointing Dog in Cheadle – “was perfect as it was all stag horns, crates, cool seating, wooden boards and natural walls. We just added flowers for the tables and a few other bits and pieces“.

I think it’s amazing – but only a fraction as amazing as the couple themselves. Louise and Gary are gorgeous, creative and fun-loving – the perfect bride and groom!

Sarah and Nick were married at Haworth Art Gallery – a fabulous location with a romantic atmosphere which needed little extra styling. Their creative talents came out to play with their marquee reception, where they enlisted friends and family to help make everything from bunting to stationery.

Today’s gorgeous bride made her own cake and many of the decorations, and everything looks amazing! Their guests commented on how personal this DIY wedding was because of all the things they thought of and made.

I particularly love the French influence in elements of the wedding design: the typefaces used on the Order of the Day; the cork decorations and the cheese wedding cake. It’s a wonderfully romantic and creative day from beginning to end, and the photographs from Pixies in the Cellar capture every detail – it’s a treat to be able to share them with you today!
