Maybe it’s blogs, I don’t know… but I’ve seen more statement bouquets over the last six months than ever before. Gone are the tidy teardrops and perfect circles, now English brides are choosing gloriously messy, cascading, multicoloured and rustic armfuls of flowers… and it’s one of my favourite wedding trends.

Statement bouquet by Katie Laura Flowers | Tiree Dawson Photography

I wanted to show you a handful of examples, some favourite bouquets and ideas to set your Pinterest boards on fire! I asked florists and photographers on Facebook to share their very best – an excuse to share lots and lots of insanely pretty flowers on the English Wedding Blog. And the suggestions came flooding in…

Statement bouquets: big, bold and beautiful

Make a statement with the size and style of your bouquet! For flower lovers, this is all the excuse you’ll ever need to hold the most amazing flowers you can imagine! I adore Katie Laura Flowers‘ style and approach to floral design: creative and carefree, with the loveliest colour combinations and lots and lots of fabulous foliage.

James’s dad found today’s wedding cake stand in a field… and Amy’s mum arranged all of the gorgeous wedding flowers with help from Amy’s sister and maid of honour. Finley the cat modelled for stationery design, while Amy’s brother made the save the dates. Cakes, games, decorations were all home made with lots of help from family and friends… and this is every bit the modern English wedding. You know what? I LOVE it!

Amy’s advice says it all: “If you have friends and family who offer help, accept it! Not only does it save money but it ads such a special personal touch. We were incredibly lucky to have such talented friends and family to help us!” And aren’t they just…

Rosie Willett bridal accessories (4)

Rosie Willett Designs is delighted to announce they will be launching a brand new wedding headpiece and jewellery collection at the end of February.

The collection is certain to delight brides-to-be in 2015, as Rosie has created a range that will complement the most current wedding dress styles.

Rosie says: “The new range includes a total of nine headpieces – a collection of delicate vines, combs and headbands made with sparkling Swarovski crystal that catches the light with movement, like a twinkling star or a soft scattering of glitter. With pieces in this collection ranging from £72 to £266, I’m aiming to offer something affordable for all brides-to-be.

“We always look at emerging trends in bridal wear to influence our collections. Crystal embellished wedding dresses are very popular this season and we have created a collection of headpieces and jewellery that will complement both embellished gowns and also add some sparkle to plainer dress styles. The delicate nature of our designs is also perfect for pretty lace dresses and illusion necklines.”

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Whatever your plans, I hope you have an amazing, loved-up, romantic and special day. (Or – if Valentine’s isn’t your thing, I hope you still have an amazing, loved-up, romantic day… just because it’s Saturday and why not 🙂

Photographer review

What an amazing day! We had so much fun spending time with Heni at London Southbank. Heni was fantastic giving us some direction to ensure he captured the light and angles perfectly in these photographs. His professional, relaxed approach really helped us feel at ease. We’ve received a lot of positive feedback from friends and family and are so grateful to have such a talented photographer to share this exciting time in our lives. Cannot wait to make more memories with you Heni, thank you! You are one of a kind! I highly recommend Heni Fourie Photography to anyone looking for a professional, friendly and affordable photographer with a true passion for his work.

I had an interesting email in my inbox this morning… now obviously most of you are engaged so I’m late with this… but tell me: did you propose to your guy? Or if he hadn’t, would you have popped the question?

Because our survey says… [family fortunes voice, Les Dennis era]… most of us think women should propose. (and reading between the lines, only 30 – 35% of us think men should!??)

Which is a little odd, I think. But hey! Odd is my favourite kind of survey! Tell me more!…

The survey said women should propose instead of men

  • More than half of people think women should propose to men
  • Older people are the most likely to support a change in marriage proposal traditions
  • Views differ greatly across the UK

Sometimes the theme comes first, sometimes the colours inspire a wedding theme… and sometimes, both work together like a dream. Today I have an elegant, chic combination of yellows and blues – the almost obligatory colour for a nautical wedding style. It’s fabulous…

Historic Docklands wedding styled shoot by Caroline Nicholson Photography (31)

Lovely Caroline Nicholson Photography got in touch when I asked for images of wedding bouquets on Facebook, and we were soon chatting about styled shoots… I loved this nautical wedding styled shoot she showed me and simply had to share it with you today! The venues are spectacular: HMS Gannet is a lovingly restored Victorian naval ship, and Commissioner’s House is Britain’s oldest surviving naval building dating back to 1704. Both are incredible backdrops for today’s styled shoot – and would be amazing for a nautical wedding!

Historic Docklands wedding styled shoot by Caroline Nicholson Photography (13)

Caroline told me “the idea behind the shoot was simple: I wanted to do a creative shoot, but go back to the whole reason I started shooting weddings, to capture the elegance and glamour of a couple in love, while showing off an incredible venue, as well as being quintessentially English.”

Hey everyone! I need your help today, as I’m searching far and wide for a lovely person to help me out a little behind the scenes at the English Wedding Blog. I don’t believe in interns (I wouldn’t work for free so I don’t expect anyone else to!) so I’m looking for the right person to spend just a couple of hours a week helping me with social media for the blog.

Could it be you?

I’m looking for someone to help look after my social media: specifically Facebook and Pinterest. The work I’ll ask you to do will be on the English Wedding Blog Facebook Page and Pinterest boards, helping me share the blog content and looking out for fabulous new things to feature on these pages.

And… wow. Today’s wedding is stunning, divine, delicious and designer. Beautiful bride Saoirse wears a genuine 1960s style vintage wedding dress and looks incredible. William’s suit is Savile Row – and everything you’re about to see makes me so very proud to be a UK wedding blogger – this is just ridiculously gorgeous, and amazingly creative and personal!

Haworth Art Gallery wedding with a 1960s vintage theme by Rachel Joyce Photography (33)

Idea of the day: non-bridesmaids. Genius… I’m always a little conscious of ‘uniforms’ at weddings and Saoirse’s idea of her best girls bucking tradition is right up my street. She told me, “They wore what they liked. We didn’t want matching outfits for anyone although they all had matching wrist corsages from the florist.”

I always ask the brides (and grooms) who feature on the English Wedding Blog what’s the best thing about being married – because the answers always make me smile. Melanie’s answer was “Having an amazing husband!!!” – and they had an amazing wedding too.

Melanie and Jonathan's wedding at Saltmarshe Hall with Maryanne Scott Photography Yorkshire (11)

You’ll love this: wintry blues, rustic details and a wonderfully elegant wedding at Saltmarshe Hall. The bouquets were the first thing to catch my eye – just fabulous! They’re by Melanie’s mum, aunty and a family friend… and I LOVE them to bits!

Melanie shares some great advice, including a very interesting tip which I know many couples would agree with after the day: “Don’t overspend on the little things- you won’t even notice them on the day! Food, band, dress & photographer are essential spends!

Lana and Adam are such a lovely couple and this is clear as crystal in their focus for their wedding day, which was to be “a grander recreation of our summer bbqs with lots of friends, family and fun” – perfect, or what?!

The day is really special and unique, with stationery all designed by the groom in striking, bold typefaces and with a quirky sense of humour. Lana is stunning: a gorgeous bride in the loveliest lace wedding dress teamed with fabulously vibrant Louboutins.

I’ve been so excited – for weeks – to show you Carly and Harry’s wedding day. Carly is the loveliest bride and our email chats have been an absolute delight. I love her for framing my calligraphy – it looks a hundred times more amazing with her styling touches! – and for sharing one of the best wedding interviews I’ve featured on the English Wedding Blog in the history of all time.

Calligraphy by Claire English Wedding Blog (9)

I adore the bright, summery, colourful styling which was all based around sunflowers. Carly told me, “The sunflower was the starting point for the whole day, which was the one thing I knew was a must for our wedding… Over a hundred decorated bottles formed the basis of the decorations being used as centrepieces and vases filling each mantelpiece and window at Holne Park House.
