Modern calligraphy workshops – information & online booking

Time flies when you’re having fun… with some of the gorgeous weddings you’ve been sending in, and my calligraphy orders for summer dates rolling in already, March has been amazing. I can hardly believe it’s a matter of days until my next calligraphy workshop… and so I’d love to fill the last few places for the day. We’re learning brush lettering: the kind of writing you see everywhere, on the loveliest invites and signage and instagrams… and it’s so easy to start. Let me show you!

The calligraphy workshop will start at 1 o’clock, and run for three hours. We’ll be in a lovely little classroom at The Manchester Craft & Design Centre, which is about 10 mins walk from Piccadilly station.

I’ll show you how to use a brush pen to create thick and thin strokes, and to swoop your pen confidently to make lovely looping letter forms. We’ll look at patterns and shapes and layouts and different brush pen alphabets which you can use to make gorgeous wedding stationery for your big day!

Blush and Gold is a boutique wedding and event stationery supplier based in Birmingham and covering the whole of the UK. Lovely Mara got in touch with me to share their favourite designer wedding invitations and introduce Blush and Gold to you!

There are two of us that run this little company and we provide two types of products for our stationery. We have some in-house collections that we add to every month, of which text and colours can be customised, but we also offer a bespoke service which allows couples to see their ideas developed into the finished product of their dreams. Our collections offer an idea of how the design can be applied to ‘on the day’ items as well, although this is just a starting point as we can pretty much produce anything the couple desires.

Girls and guys – if you’re booking a barn for your wedding reception then you’re going to need a little help with the styling… and you’re going to have so much fun planning and decorating the place! Countryside touches, rustic floral arrangements and traditional crafts are some of the things I love most about English barn weddings… and all of the beautiful touches in the images shown here are from Gemma & Joe’s wedding, photographed by lovely Benjamin Mathers Photography.

Barns need lighting, so it’s a great idea to start here. Gemma and Joe strung festoon lighting between the beams, added fairy lights and repurposed a beautiful vintage candelabra – which they found in a bric-a-brac shop – as a centrepiece for their barn wedding.

Hanging flowers on the walls add interest to bare patches – and they’re super easy to do with a little twine or raffia and some nails! Remember to add water unless you’re using dried flowers! 😉

Little gold eggs at every place setting… personal egg cup place names, the most beautiful flowers with pale pink and pastel blooms… it can only be an Easter wedding, and this is the loveliest I’ve ever seen! Today’s wedding blog is an early treat for all of you Easter brides and grooms – you’re going to LOVE this!

Rebecca married Adam last Easter at Elmore Court. Their day is wonderful – they’re such a gorgeous couple and the photos of their wedding are just divine. Even the tiniest details are so carefully curated… “The ‘big’ things such as florist, hair and make up etc came by recommendation but for the smaller things I developed an obsession with wedding magazines, which I loved looking through for inspiration, as well as wedding blogs and there was definitely a lot of pinterest boards being created. I fell in love with Etsy and being able to talk to the suppliers and request personalised items worked really well for us. A lot of our extras came from there.”

I hope you’ve had the loveliest of days, everyone. I’ve had a relaxing Sunday with family and it’s time to look forward to a fabulous week of wedding blog dreaminess ahead! We’ve had the most wonderful start to the year, and many old friends have got back in touch – including lovely Joseph Hall, a Bristol wedding photographer whose style I’ve admired for years – ever since the early days of the English Wedding Blog. I’m over the moon to say Joseph is rejoining as a sponsor so we’ll be sharing some of his favourite weddings with you over the next few months. Let me introduce you…

I love ‘English country garden’ as a wedding theme. I love rustic, country weddings. I love seeing couples strolling through fields and woodlands, and down country lanes… but more than any of that, I love it when that countryside is so obviously home.

Michelle and Rob couldn’t have had their wedding any other way – and my heart tells me they would never have dreamed of a different wedding. The countryside is their life: they look so happy – and the styling of their day has an instinctive, natural flair which could only come from a bride and groom who adore the English countryside more than anything. Their Yorkshire wedding photographer Ian Wallace sums it up: Michelle and Rob’s wedding was all about the people – dozens of friends from the village turning out on the streets to wish them well and join in the celebrations and bringing the village to a standstill.

Step into a whole world of elegance and old English charm with me… for a peek inside one of our loveliest country house wedding venues, Pendrell Hall. From the outside Pendrell is enticing and full of character, with delicious red brick walls and glistening window panes… and inside it’s a world of luxurious wood panelling, divine decor and subtle, elegant style. Gorgeous couple Lyndsey and Dan were married there, and I asked them to share their own personal experience of this wonderful wedding venue with us all today.

“We fell in love with Pendrell Hall the moment we walked through the door and felt very much at home – whilst it’s a stunning venue that needs little to no decoration we wanted to enhance the homely feel with personal items and everyday objects from our home.” ~ Lyndsey & Dan

Happy Saturday lovely people! I hope you have a wonderful day planned – we’re in Manchester after an amazing concert last night, and heading back on the train to our lovely Lake District very soon. But first – I wanted to show you something really inspiring and gorgeous and fun: a beautifully lit, romantic wedding in Mexico. If you’re lucky enough to have a summer wedding outdoors in the UK, how about some amazing lighting like this to make your evening reception spectacular?!

It’s wonderful to see a little wedding cake love. The modern day cake is a work of art, a feast for the eyes even more than for your hungry guests’ tummies. I adore seeing top cake designers launch new collections: wedding cake stars PeboryonRosalind Miller, Cakes by Beth, Amy Swann and Nevie-Pie Cakes are turning wedding cakes into works of art… and for cake fans this has to be the most wonderful thing ever!

‘Fowey’ wedding cake. “After an afternoon celebrating togetherness, art galleries and good coffee, a walk out to watch the white sails chase the breeze on the sparkling sea was invigorating. There’s freedom and beauty in power under control.”

I had an email from lovely Christine at Peboryon a little while ago – a cake design studio based in Cornwall. They recently launched a new range of beautifully different luxury wedding cakes – and the Duchy Collection launch was a fabulous event in itself!

Hey lovely! It’s been a fabulous week already here at English Wedding Blog HQ, and I’m thrilled to have been working with some amazing folks on styled shoots and features to inspire your wedding plans!

Serenity, until December at least, was a state of mind. Rose quartz was a beautiful stone… and yet we are going crazy for these two ‘colours of the year‘. They’re all over wedding blogs with styled shoots, Pins, and mood boards – creating the perfect wedding palette and colour scheme to inspire brides worldwide.

Rose quartz & serenity wedding colour palettes

I’ve talked before about wedding colour palettes being far more than they used to be: gone are the days of one-colour weddings with blocks of Cadbury purple or teal splashed across every available accessory. I believe in colour palettes – choosing a combination of tones will make your wedding look fabulous.

The English Wedding Blog Pinterest page has plenty of boards for different colour schemes and combinations… I’ve even created a rose quartz & serenity board to inspire your big day!

I’m just not sure I believe in Pantone telling us all what the perfect palette for the year should be!

Oh Pantone, you clever marketeers, you. Girls are ruling the internet with visual sharing platforms and an overload of pretty dominating our screens. And you noticed.
