David and Becks are a wonderful couple. It’s a rare treat to have a groom’s interview on the blog, and David gives some amazing advice. You all know I adore intimate weddings and a relaxed approach to planning, so I was thrilled when these gorgeous folks landed in my inbox. Everything about their day is perfect for the English Wedding Blog!

A real wedding blog at Verzon House by Hayley Baxter Photography (21)

David told me “Pretty much everything other than the photographer and the venue was done by our friends and family, particularly Becks’ mum who could have 50 different careers if she wished, she did all the flowers, the table dressings and the bunting amongst other things.”

Our beautiful bride and gorgeous groom planned their day together from the start. They spent on the important things: such as their fab Leeds wedding photographer Hayley Baxter, and saved elsewhere. David advises other couples to, “make sure you save money in the right places… ditch the fussy stuff and spend a bit on the important things that will make sure your guests have a fab time!

I was lost for words when I saw today’s incredibly beautiful shoot. It doesn’t happen often. 😉 A few elements combined can really make your wedding – and today we’re going to show you how British flowers, a strong bridal look and graceful bridalwear will transform your day. The key: trust in your suppliers. They’re designers, creatives, and artists in their respective fields.

Good morning my beautiful blog readers! It’s been a heady whirl of technical wizardry here at English Wedding Blog HQ this morning… and I’m thrilled I can finally bring you today’s real Welsh wedding! James and Sarah’s day is more than beautiful. It’s full of ideas for the most amazing summer wedding flowers, and delicate DIY touches which bring the theme together with such amazing character and style.

September wedding Ebristock Boat Inn on the English Wedding Blog (23)

I adore the flowers. Sarah told me “I put complete faith in Laura and her team to deliver on the day and the end result was so beautiful! I still can’t believe how amazing they were when they only had my description to go on. I am so grateful to everyone there… I knew I wanted sunflowers and daisies and a lot of different, warm colours. I didn’t want a colour theme for the wedding to help it look more rustic and ‘oldy-worldy’. I also explained to Laura that I wanted the flowers to look like they had been ‘handpicked from an Autumn country garden’ and I think she really delivered on this.”

Who missed storm Desmond last week? Oh, you lucky things! I heard some heartbreaking stories and in contrast some really uplifting tales of heroes in floods (Gareth from Aqua Salon – I’m talking about you!) – and one fabulous story of a wedding which came together against all the odds. This week I’ve been thinking about rain on your wedding day. I know a lot of brides really worry: equally I see some incredibly beautiful images on my Facebook feed (and there were LOTS last weekend!) – so I wanted to share some tips to reassure you all. I asked my recommended suppliers and blog sponsors for their best advice.

Bristol wedding photographer Sandy at Love In Focus:

1. Plan for rain – just in case!

Everyone hopes for good weather on their wedding day but unfortunately there really is nothing you can do about the weather! The good news is that rain doesn’t have to spoil your day if you plan for it and can even make for some really beautiful shots. Don’t worry about your photographer, professional camera equipment is weather sealed and clothes dry!

Happy Sunday morning my lovely! I have something extraordinarily special for you this morning: a beautiful real wedding from Lancashire’s Eaves Hall. Gorgeous couple Stephanie and Lyle were married there, and I have a delicious selection of images from their day to share with you.

Eaves Hall Lancashire wedding blog Andrew Keher Photography (30)

There’s more than just gorgeous images and fabulous details though. Stephanie shares some brilliant advice with us all today – for starters, “I would recommend that all future brides go to a wedding fair early on… I went when everything was pretty much booked. It would have saved me a lot of time and research because it was amazing and everything was in one place!

Eaves Hall Lancashire wedding blog Andrew Keher Photography (43)

The beautiful bride told me Eaves Hall is “traditionally beautiful and combines the old with the new so we could have got away with doing nothing. That’s not us though… we had drapes from the chandeliers, a fairly lit back drop, a LOVE light up sign, sweet cart, post box and our own personal touches…” Do read Stephanie and Lyle’s English Wedding Blog interview at the end of the feature to find out more!

As well as asking real brides and grooms, I turn to wedding photographers to find out what really makes a wedding venue special. Back in November I featured Natalie and Darren’s wedding on the blog, and I know you’ll find Samantha’s words on their venue insightful and very helpful in your wedding venue search:

“Stubton Hall is a stunning 19th Century country house set in the Lincolnshire countryside with amazing grounds and fabulous water features. I was privileged to have the opportunity to be a Stubton Hall wedding photographer.

I designed these invitations for something entirely different, but don’t you think they’re perfect for a winter wedding? As January looms and the days are crisp and frosty we’re all looking for warming colours: plum and gold are perfect for this time of year. Add a few gold accents and some wonderfully soft duck egg blues… this is styling heaven. If you’re considering colours to warm your winter wedding, this palette is all kinds of magical.

Invitations and stationery which have that unique, personal touch are the very best you can buy. For intimate weddings I recommend calligraphy: whether you order handwritten invitations or envelope addressing, your guests will adore the hand lettered touch.

For a larger wedding it’s more cost effective to have your invitations printed, but you can still add beautiful lettering. Choose handwritten place names, escort cards or even envelope addressing for your invites. I offer all of these services to my couples on my other website Calligraphy for Weddings.

Hey everyone! I’m so excited about Christmas and desperate to hit the shops (internet… Etsy 🙂 ) this weekend – I hope you’re all ready for Christmas but just in case you need a little extra something, I have an idea I hope you’ll love!

Yesterday I got to write my first gift voucher for January’s calligraphy workshops, and I’d LOVE to write some more! So many of my students who come to the workshops have been  planning their weddings, I thought this would be a great idea to share on the English Wedding Blog. Maybe it’s right up your street… maybe you have a bridesmaid who has super crafty fingers and would love to learn modern calligraphy.

Why not book a couple of places in my next workshop on January 15th, and give your friend hers as a Christmas prezzie with one of my lovely vouchers?

The workshop runs from 11am until 3pm and costs £59 per person. You can book your place in my Etsy shop – there are more details here as well.

It’s not the formal photos that remind you how great your day was – it’s the natural fun and excitement that is so important to be documented. Amy’s ability not to miss a moment is incredible, and her energy and passion comes across in the photos. Amy is a photographic ninja and we cannot recommend her enough.” ~ by gorgeous bride Hannah

Beautiful images by Amy B Photography from a country wedding at Marleybrook House (28)

As a wedding blogger, it’s this passion for beautiful images and enthusiasm and excitement for suppliers which make me sit up and listen. Hannah emailed me to tell me about her wedding to George, and from the moment I saw the first photos of their day I was hooked. Not only are they a stunning couple: they have the most wonderful recommendations and advice to share with you. Today’s Kent wedding is one of the loveliest I’ve seen and I cannot wait to show you all of the beautiful photographs!

You’re the best.

I spend my evenings (and far too much of my working days, if I’m honest!) poring over the most amazing flowers on Instagram. I’d love to create the arrangements I see there, but I know there’s tons more to floral design than meets the eye…

Today’s feature is especially for brides and grooms (and mothers of brides!) who would love to save money on wedding flowers without sacrificing quality. Ruth from Natural Favours, who has recently launched a DIY flower service, is here to share 7 super tips with you – I think they’re brilliant!

Image credits Chocolate Chip Photography (2)

“The cost of your big day floristry can creep up to around 10% of the entire budget which can be a significant chunk when the average cost of a wedding can be upwards of £20k.  Here at Natural Favours HQ we are strong believers that it is perfectly possible to have the day of your dreams without the hefty price tag.  If you’re feeling a little bit creative and a lot savvy, then DIY flowers could be the way to go!

Good morning, beautiful! I’m blogging at the very last minute every day this week… Christmas orders for illustrated cards and calligraphy family trees are coming in by the dozen and my writing fingers are sore! My blogging fingers, on the other hand, 😉 are revitalised daily with so much wedding pretty I could even forget Christmas is only weeks away… and today’s wonderful blast of colour will brighten your screens and your hearts, I promise!

Laura and James are the loveliest couple ever. I’ve wanted to blog their Kent wedding since the summer – but having it to share with you now is better because it feels as though my Christmas has come early. They’re gorgeous; their day is magical; the images are superb and the flowers… I don’t think I even have words for how much I love the flowers.
