Hey everyone! I hope the sunshine is with you today… it’s glorious here, it feels as though it’s been sooooo long! So it’s a happy day – and for two reasons. One: sunshine 🙂 and two: I have someone awesome I’d like to introduce you to – Yorkshire wedding photographer Ian Wallace.

Ian Wallace has had some beautiful weddings featured on the English Wedding Blog over the years. There was Anna & Tom’s Aldwark Manor wedding, and then Adrian and Charlotte’s gorgeous Wasing Park wedding from last spring. All of Ian’s photography is beautiful, timeless and elegant – and so to have him join the English Wedding Blog as a sponsor is a real treat.

Ian says “I like my photos to tell you about a moment. To tell you about a person. To make you feel like you were there. Photos will bring back memories and help to tell a story, which is why I love photographing weddings… I come away with a collection of moments and memories in my camera.”

As a little girl I would visit my nan every Sunday, unlock her china cabinet and carefully handle her beautiful tea set. She’d been given this as a wedding gift in 1956. I’d spend hours playing with the tea cups, pretending to hold tea parties. I was enchanted by their delicacy, the pretty rose design and gold gilding.

These were keep for ‘good’ and I loved it when special visitors came and they were used. The tea seemed to taste better, the sandwiches looked daintier, the cakes more elegant, and the whole occasion extra special. It was here that my love affair with afternoon tea and vintage china started.

When my boyfriend proposed I knew exactly what kind of wedding I wanted. A few years earlier we’d attended the Royal garden party at Buckingham palace and I wanted to recreate that, but with alcohol and perhaps on a smaller scale.

Today’s is a traditional wedding on an impressive scale – with some gorgeous photographs and beautiful moments I know you’ll adore. The stunning bride and groom are Jessica and Michael, who told me “we had over 300 guests with the majority being loud old Chinese ladies(!!), this would be daunting and difficult for anyone, but Duncan handled it all smoothly“, their photographer being Newcastle wedding photographer Duncan McCall Photography.

I asked Jessica, What’s the best thing about being married? Her answer was lovely: simply, “Having my best friend around all the time.” And the love between this wonderful couple just shines from their photos. Enjoy!Claire

Supporting little indie businesses is wonderful. There are hundreds of amazing and dedicated independent designers pouring their hearts and souls into their creations – and having to compete with the big boys. It ain’t easy – so every little bit of support you can give to indie wedding stationers is worth its weight in gold. Here are some of my favourite wedding invitations featuring pretty, quirky and unique illustrations.Claire

I was chatting with a friend yesterday and the words “like a princess” came into our conversation – and we chuckled. Neither of us are princessy girls… and yet, doesn’t everyone want to be the centre of someone’s universe sometimes?

Legend Bridal Designs alternative wedding blog with Tiree Dawson Photography (16)

That feeling of “like a princess” applies to relationships as much as it does to weddings. I’ve heard so many stories from brides-to-be finding their dress: ‘The One” – and having that princess feeling! Until now I’ve always felt a little apart from that; I’m no Cinderella, I’ve never worn a cocktail dress or ballgown – it just isn’t me. And when it comes to wedding dresses, I’d go as alternative as I could get away with!

This last month or so I’ve come to realise that alternative and princess aren’t worlds apart: you can be both. There are more princesses than Cinderella and Kate (yawn!) – and turning to those with fiery characters and exciting styles means you can look amazing, and like your gorgeous, alternative self, and still feel like a princess on your wedding day!

America has its vineyards – the most amazing wedding receptions in the US seem to take place at vineyard locations, don’t they? – but they’ll never, ever rival the charm and quintessentially English atmosphere of a Kent apple orchard. Edward and Saori chose the loveliest venue for their Japanese & English fusion wedding… and every detail, every image is just perfect.

“Lighting was really important for us and I wanted to create something special for the day. I decided to create our names in lights – this involved buying wooden stencils, a large sheet of ply wood, lighting strings, spraypaint and some dedicated DIY time! I think the lighting board cost about ÂŁ50 to make and really created a wow factor when people walked into the venue – to buy or hire something like this would be hundreds of pounds.

A little while ago I asked for any suggestions of wedding loveliness I might feature on the blog, and some of the replies I had – from couples, designers and wedding suppliers – were amazing! One who really stood out from the crowd was lovely Alice Palace, whose wedding invitations are so original and charming I don’t think they will ever date!

“We design unique eco friendly wedding stationery which is a wonderful way to begin the tale of your wedding day – our designs are original, personal and they tell your story. When you think about your wedding stationery, think about who you are as a couple and what you represent, your history together and then bring your story to Alice Palace and we can create your ideas into designs which will become a memory of the story of your wedding day.”

How many moments of pure joy happen in a single wedding day? Too many to count, or imagine, or dream of, or remember? Weddings are days filled with blissful seconds of laughter, love and happiness. Like this.

Happy Friday everyone! Come to sunny Devon for today’s gorgeous art deco wedding in an insanely amazing venue. Cherry and Myles chose the stunning Burgh Island Hotel for their reception, and it set the scene for an incredibly beautiful, chic and art deco wedding day.

I fell head over heels for their day the second I saw their photos. You’ll love them too!

“We tried our very best to find suppliers local to either our home in Cardiff or from our wedding location in Devon, as we are very keen on supporting local businesses.  We looked at wedding magazines, local wedding blogs and pinterest for most of our ideas and then found most of our contacts at local wedding fairs or via the recommendation of family and friends.”

Burgh Island hotel English wedding blog Lucy Wallace Photography (32)

“The venue was so exquisite, no additional styling was necessary.  All we added was a few personal touches and a vase of flowers per table, created by [our florist] Sally.  Burgh Island Hotel is an absolutely exceptional venue, with incredible scenery and exquisite dĂ©cor… to have tried to add further decoration would have been completely superfluous and would have detracted from its charm.”

Matching your wedding style with your venue is easy when you find a welcoming home-from-home which has years of character and charm in its very walls. Nestled among Lake District roads, with views to the distant hills and plenty of nooks and crannies for your guests to discover, is The Plough at Lupton, where today’s vintage-inspired shoot took place.

We have everything feminine and pretty with a sassy 1950s twist – a stunning hand painted wedding cake (the colours are SO fabulous for 2016!), a sweet little vintage rose bouquet and a real vintage coach which almost steals the show! (Seriously: hats off to the vintage bus drivers of Cumbria; I’m a local girl and I know our roads. You are legends!) Oh, and did I mention the festoon lighting from Typical Type? It’s divine… and I’d never seen anything like it before 2016. Definitely a must-have for weddings with plenty going on outside!

Timeless wedding style is worth its weight in diamonds. Creating a wedding day look which is timeless means you can look back on your day in 2 years, in 10 years and in 50 years – and you will still love everything about it. Your dress and suit will be elegant, flattering and simple. Your flowers will be breathtaking. You’ll dream of revisiting that amazing venue – and your wedding album will become a beautiful heirloom for generations to admire.

Timeless wedding photography by Fiona Kelly, London wedding photographer

Imagine the opposite scenario: looking back on your wedding in 5 years time and feeling embarrassed about the fashions you see in your album: a dodgy perm, or dated make up, even your venue might make you cringe. Such is the way with anything uber fashionable: if it’s not been popular for long, is there a risk of the theme and style you love becoming hideously unfashionable in a few years time? A case in point: does anyone remember wedding photos with spot colour or dresses like meringues? We loved them, once!

Mary told me, simply, beautifully, “I’ve married my best friend so we support each other through everything and make each other laugh every day.” With every wedding I feature, there is an underlying story of love so strong it can take on the world. This is why I do what I do. Mary & Waleed – you’re amazing and I’m thrilled to be featuring your wedding on the English Wedding Blog today!

We’re glad we spent more on the photographs and venue “absolutely unforgettable quality from both… Duncan and his team were amazing! Can’t recommend him highly enough-he was so professional and managed to capture all the moments we wanted without being at all intrusive on our big day!”

My Mum loved making our bespoke invitations, and I loved adding a personalised touch to our table names theme which was wedding anniversary symbols (Silver, Gold, Ruby etc), by having them written out in both Arabic and English as a nod to my husband’s Arabic background to ensure it was being celebrated too in this traditional English wedding with a difference!”
