There are too many things to love about Alex and Andrew’s wedding: the bride herself is stunning, her groom equally as gorgeous 🙂 The modern calligraphy lettering on their fabulous letterpress stationery is a winner for me instantly; the flowers are divine, and the styling of the day comes together so beautifully to create a fabulous English wedding.

The flowers are spectacular: “Adam Prest was our florist for the day, Katie and I met Adam a few weeks before the wedding and the whole experience was magical! Adam really has the gift of creating exactly what you have in mind with little direction. I wanted a woodland feel with pops of natural colour, Adam certainly exceeded our expectations.”

There’s something thrilling about today’s wedding venue – it’s like being allowed a peek into another world of grandeur, and tradition, and of centuries of English history… and I love how Hannah and Seb styled their wedding with classic touches (top hat & tails included!) to suit the magnificent location for their day: the Palace of Westminster (also known as the Houses of Parliament).

“Neil was fantastic from start to finish. He took the time to get to know us and find out what we wanted; a mixture of formal and informal photographs… When we saw our professional shots, we were absolutely blown away! Neil captured so much more than just an image; it was as though each picture told a story and took us through the journey of our special day. His artistic style, photographic skill and experience shone through, encompassing magical moments that we will cherish forever.” ~ Hannah & Seb

Call me weird but… I love bridesmaid dresses even more than wedding gowns. They’re colourful, floaty, super pretty and elegant, and if they’re handmade they’re even better. And there’s nothing prettier than a little colour behind a stunning bouquet, don’t you think? I’d happily get married in a bridesmaid’s dress… and I’d definitely get it from a wonderful, independent designer like lovely Kim from AbideMaids in Devon.

I was thrilled when Kim replied to my Facebook shout out for independent designers to feature on the English Wedding Blog. Her boutique sounds fabulous: Kim has followed her passion for dressmaking, which she fell in love with when she was only 13. She now has a pretty little boutique in Devon offering girls the perfect shopping experience, and makes all the dresses in-house and by hand.

The most exciting part of the process is when the girls first come and see me in my shop. We look at colours, fabrics and styles, all over a cup of tea of course! We design the dress there and then, mixing and matching elements and styles to create the perfect dress!

Did you see our 15 wonderfully unique and affordable wedding invitations feature last month? I love writing posts like these: I love being able to share independent designers’ collections with you and I see myself as a bit of a matchmaker.

Aimee Willow Designs unique illustrated wedding stationery (7)

I totally fell in love with Aimee Willow Designs‘ Instagram themed wedding invitation and I was thrilled when Aimee said I could show you more of her work. She’s a true talent: an illustrator and graphic designer by trade, Aimee started to specialise in wedding stationery while planning her own wedding. Her style ranges from inky floral bohemian to unique passport and polaroid quirkiness. I love how she combines modern handwriting fonts with quirky floral graphics to create bright and breezy invitation styles. Her country garden invitation is so sweet and perfect… I think this is my favourite but it’s soooo hard to choose from so much pretty!

In her lovely studio based in Essex Aimee loves creating a variety of wedding suite styles to fit in with any vision, whether it be pre-made or totally bespoke. She studied Graphic Design and fine art at Cambridge while starting her design business.

I’m not sure what caught my eye and stole my heart first… the fabulous yellow accents, or Jen’s dream dress, or maybe the spirit of this beautiful barn wedding caught so wonderfully on camera. It matters little: whatever you love best, it’s pretty much guaranteed you’ll be blown over by today’s incredible wedding. Allow me to introduce stunning bride Jen and her gorgeous groom Chris!

I love working at Bury Court Barn as it’s so pretty with its stunning grounds and well kept gardens. The barn itself is very impressive with great light coming through the windows. It offers so many opportunities for photographers so I can’t wait to shoot there again soon. Jen and Chris are the friendliest people you could meet and an absolute joy to work with. I really enjoyed capturing their wedding as there was always so much energy in the room and it was clear that both they and their guests were having such a great time.” ~ Murray Clarke Photography

It seems sooo long since we published a sneak peek from this wedding in the English Wedding Book at the beginning of this year (do you have your free copy yet?) but when these divine wedding pics landed in my inbox it felt like yesterday. Vanessa and Will are amazing: their farming wedding is one of the loveliest I’ve ever featured and I know you’ll love everything about their day.

We were at home when we saw the final pictures and we viewed them together. They are amazing and really capture our day. The detail and moments that Rob and Sarah captured were just truly magical, and it is so lovely that we have such a special record of our day, including piecing together bits that we had no idea had even happened!”

The details are subtle, elegant and sophisticated, taking inspiration from days gone by with effortless charm. The flowers are divine: with roses and cornflowers taking centre stage, thistles and wildflowers combined to create the loveliest of palettes. I love a mixed bouquet – this is where floral designers really come into their own. Celeste French has an instinct for amazing arrangements for weddings and styled the flowers so beautifully for Emma & Fraser’s day.

These flowers make me think of the seaside… the colours are magical, they’re light and dreamy… and perfect for a summer wedding. The loveliest thing about the bouquet is that it’s one you can make at home with quality silk flowers and our step by step tutorial by lovely Natasha at Pumpkin & Pye.

silk flower bouquet coral and blue (9)

Where to find quality silk flowers

Artificial flowers come in all shapes and sizes, and the quality varies hugely: garden centres and home stores sell the cheapest they can get. The only way to source really lovely silk blooms is online, and Natasha recommends Afloral.com whose website is testament to the pride they take in sourcing only the very best. Do take a look at Afloral online.

Make your own blue, coral and white bridal bouquet

You will need:-

artificial flowers and foliages of your choice, wire cutters, satin ribbon, floral twine, scissors and pearl pins

Step 1:.

Use wire cutters to trim off all the excess leaves, leaving only leaves close to the flower head.

I’m head over heels in love with Josie and Gareth’s countryside wedding… the photos are fabulous, the location is stunning, I think every detail is perfect. Josie is just so beautiful and Gareth looks fantastic. I adore the heather, the bouquet is amaaaaaazing, the orders of service are gorgeous…. what’s not to love?

The theme for the day was rustic countryside with spectacular tipis and local flowers and food. Josie told me she got a lot of inspiration from wedding blogs and pinterest but choose wedding suppliers through research and recommendations.

If you ever needed proof that you can have a beautiful wedding, on a budget, and make it look even better than all the weddings you see on major wedding blogs – then beautiful bride Charlotte and her handsome groom Jay are here to show you a thing or two. Their wedding is sublime. The location is stunning, the details are gorgeous, and the images are out of this world…

I always look at the guy’s suits when I’m choosing weddings for the blog – and in this case, Jay’s shoes are pretty fab as well! Charlotte told me “We always wanted the men in something a bit different and wool like (especially seeing as though it was a winter wedding) and we just couldn’t find anything like this to hire, and didn’t have the budget to have something made just for Jay. In the end we ended up finding the perfect suit in Next and luckily we could get them all in everyone’s size.” I think they look great.

Something to brighten your day, my lovely wedding blog friends… beautiful summer wildflower bouquets and the most adorable troupe of flower girls you’re ever likely to see. Anna is an incredibly beautiful bride. Her smile is infectious: with Sam at her side they make a gorgeous couple. I love the portraits Ian captured of them both around Hazlewood Castle: it’s a venue with knockout looks and some amazing photographic locations. It’s also steeped in a history of kings, knights and historical tales – and I love the romance of adding your own story to the centuries gone before at such a fascinating venue.
