There’s so much I love about Katie and Kevin’s wedding: their effortless style and choice of a glamorous, vintage inspired theme, their focus on friends and family… Katie describes their wedding in Lancashire as “An amazing party filled with love and laughter surrounded by the people we love the most!

And then there’s Katie’s beautiful Charlotte Balbier designer wedding dress, from The White Closet in Didsbury. What a stunning bride, and what a magical celebration. As we enjoy a little chilly weather this month, it’s the perfect time to share this beautiful winter wedding with you. The images are by lovely Zoe at ZT Photography, who gets a glowing review from the bride and groom in their wedding report at the end of the feature!

Happy weekend everybody! I hope you have a lovely day planned – I do… I’m going to a wedding this afternoon and can’t wait! To make today even more exciting I have one of the loveliest weddings I’ve seen to share with you all today. I’ve been waiting to share this one and I know you’ll love it too! It’s all about bright and fabulous colours, and beautiful design. About time we had another sunflowers wedding blog as well, isn’t it?!

The very lovely Kate got in touch with me a few weeks back to tell me about her wedding day. She told me, “We got married on 29th June and having read your blog everyday in the run up I would really like to feature on your site… We got married at iconic, art deco hotel The Midland in Morecambe and made the day as personal as possible.” I also got to have a peek at Kate and John’s wedding website – a key part of their day, which I think is fab! and when John’s wedding reading brought tears to my eyes I knew I had to share their sunsets and sunflowers wedding blog with you all.

I’m just trying to remember who was the last celebrity to feature on the English Wedding Blog. There haven’t been many, safe to say! Eric Morecambe in today’s seaside wedding is quite possibly the coolest – see what you think: we’ve had David Mitchell (from Mitchell & Webb), the ex lead singer from 70s punk band The Stranglers, and Kirstie Allsopp. That’s probably about it.

(David Mitchell was a wedding guest on a blog feature last year. The Stranglers’ singer wasn’t in any photos, and Kirstie Allsopp just wrote a book my calligraphy was in. So yeah, I’m stretching the truth here! Oh – did I mention Eric Morecambe appears here in statue form? Hehe.)

To be honest I’m not into celeb culture – I don’t read magazines very often and I’m rarely aware of anything Kim Kardashian does. I don’t think I’m missing anything! The glamorous couples I’d rather read about are the brides and grooms who appear on the English Wedding Blog – like today’s star couple Charlotte and Phil. They were married at Morecambe’s fabulous Midland Hotel, an internationally renowned art deco wedding venue. Their seaside wedding has oodles of personality and style – you’re going to love it!

I love the couples whose weddings I can share on this blog, I truly do! Richard and Katey are fantastic – both absolutely gorgeous and the loveliest people. Here’s proof for you – when I asked for wedding day advice Richard and Katey suggested this little gem:

“The day should be about the marriage, not just the fuss afterwards, remember why you are making the commitment to begin with and embrace it.”

A beautiful sentiment from a lovely couple – and one I’d reiterate with every blog post if I thought for a second you didn’t know it already! But of course, this being a wedding blog there are as many gorgeous details as there are magical moments. Katey wears Jenny Packham, Richard looks amazing in Duchamp. Their vintage broadway wedding theme included the most amazing tickets as escort cards and – oh, yes – a red Cadillac to take Katey to church.

If life was a rainbow… I think Rebecca and Matt’s wedding would be the pot of gold at the end. I love this wedding for the bright and wonderfully happy colours, the beautiful bride and groom and the atmosphere of celebration and love in every picture.

English wedding blog Jonny Draper (1)

There’s an unusual story to introduce this real wedding with – Matt had discovered wedding photographer Jonny Draper at Rebecca’s brother’s wedding last year, and the whole thing began with a phone call even before the proposal… Jonny himself picks up the story:

“What a wedding. It was just perfect. The amazing weather smack bang in the middle of a run of rain, thunder, fire and brimstone (it felt like it a few times!) and the most perfect couple. Bex and Matt.

I’ve known Bex & Matt for a couple of years now. Last year I photographed Bex’s brother’s wedding – Ben & Jordana. Bex was one of Jordy’s gorgeous bridesmaids. I also photographed Catherine & Richard’s wedding last year. Bex was one of Catherine’s gorgeous bridesmaids. Matt was starting to feel the pressure…!!!

Vintage, elegant, classic… there are too many ways I could describe Steven and Jamie-Emma’s Lancashire wedding. I love their story, their passion and their obvious love for their family and friends.

I also love Jamie’s wedding corset and skirt; I love the teacups and birdcages, the vintage table plan. I love how beautiful Jamie is, and I love the look on her mum’s face as much as I love the laughter and the hug for the little boy after what I hear was the best speech of the day.

Jamie and Ste have written their own wedding report, so I will leave you to read that (and it’s worth spending a few minutes having a real, proper read of this one I promise!) and to admire the lovely and sensitive images taken by contemporary Lancashire wedding photographer Anurag Sharma (Shutterleaf Photography). Let’s kick off with a few engagement photos though, simply because these are gorgeous! (And I miss sunshine!)

More than anything else in the world, your wedding should celebrate you and your love. A wedding should be personal, it should be comfortable and it should be right for you.

So when Rob and Jayne’s wedding landed in my inbox I was over the moon. Here’s a couple who bask in their individuality. Both gorgeous and creative, Rob and Jayne’s wedding was a day to remember, and then some! And Lancashire wedding photographer Jonathan Bean was there to capture the whole day for their album…

The other thing I love is when a groom shares his wedding story. Rob’s wedding report begins with a romantic proposal story which brought a tear to my eye – and he tells the story of his wedding to Jayne so beautifully – so this wedding blogger is now handing over to a better writer, just for one day! Rob…

I’ve always thought I’d love a handfasting for my own wedding – and when I saw Cat and Jocelyn’s handfasting celebration I loved everything they’d done to create a truly beautiful day. Their civil partnership was at Leighton Moss nature reserve in Lancashire, and images are by Cat and Suz at C. T. Images Photography in Bolton.

The atmosphere on the day must have been wonderful: an outdoor ceremony, the air filled with live music from friends and a traditional handfasting before friends and family. Cat and Jocelyn have written all about their day to share on English Wedding blog – so I’ll hand over the reins to them to tell you all about it.

If you have a wedding or civil partnership to share on English Wedding blog I’d love to hear from you. All the info you need is here: English Wedding submissions

Who proposed, and how?

Jocelyn proposed over a pint of stout in my favourite pub ‘Callnans’ in Cork, Ireland on a very wet night in September 2008
