Individual, fun and full of colour and personality - a real wedding at Nyland Manor (31)

The colourful, happy vibe of Lucy and Steve’s wedding is just how I’d imagine the perfect wedding to be. Perfection isn’t about colour palettes or a theme, it’s not even about the day running to schedule or being stress free: the perfect wedding is one where everyone is smiling from beginning to end, where the dancefloor is full, where the best memories are unplanned, unexpected and all the more amazing for it. Today’s gorgeous bride Lucy and super handsome groom Steve show us exactly how it’s done…

We made up the flowers ourselves! This was one of my favourite parts of the wedding prep! Our venue didn’t need much decoration but the marquee did! We did this all ourselves, with help from work colleagues, friends and family. We made almost everything! Table centres, the favours, extra bits that went around the venue! I loved doing all of this.

When lovely Jessy Jones got in touch to show me Tom and Natalie’s day I was so excited – honestly, their day is just so pretty and perfect to share with you here. The bride and groom are gorgeous: the flower crown is super sweet and I LOVE the daisies – I hope you will too! Oh, and did I mention the awesome golden dinosaurs? 😉

“We didn’t really have a theme – we wanted the wedding to reflect us both. Flowers were a big part of our wedding, particularly daisies and roses, with zombies, dinosaurs and mermaids thrown in!

Throughout the wedding planning I was most certain about what style of bouquet I wanted and I knew I needed to get the right florist to get the look I wanted. When I met Sharon at a wedding fair I knew she got what I wanted. We had several meetings – I changed my mind several times but we got there in the end. Out of everything I was so excited to see what my flowers would look like – I was not disappointed: the flowers, the flower crown… everything was perfect. Sharon was absolutely lovely as well. I would recommend her to anyone – she really goes above and beyond to make your day perfect. www.sharonsflowerhouse.co.uk

Greenery is where it’s at for 2017 weddings. Foliage and textures for a wonderfully organic look make my heart sing. So Phoebe and Wayne’s DIY wedding is perfect to share on the English Wedding Blog, with all its greenery and homemade touches. This gorgeous couple’s day is full of ideas so I am thrilled to be sharing it with you today!

We chose our venue because of its gorgeous setting in the heart of the south downs. We kept the styling very simple, keeping the focus on the lovely surroundings. We hung white lanterns but not much else. Everything that we could have made ourselves, we did. My husband even made our cake table from an old cable reel. I definitely enjoyed it, I hope he did!

We look back at our day and are so proud of what we created and couldn’t imagine feeling as much pride and satisfaction if we hadn’t done so much of it ourselves.

Welcome back to the English Wedding Blog! If you were here yesterday you’ll have seen the first of our weddings of the year – Jess and Rich’s fabulously colourful vintage wedding in London. Today we’re in Cornwall for a beautifully whimsical, DIY-filled country wedding which I know you’ll love.

“We didn’t really have a theme, everything was very ‘us’. I suppose, understated, elegant, natural, romantic. We made a lot of elements ourselves, we love that sort of thing. We made our wooden signs and painted them ourselves, including the menu and table plan which were made from wooden pallets, and the Bride and Groom signs on the backs of our chairs.

Try not to get overwhelmed by the amount that’s on offer to buy or hire for your big day. It’s not about how much decor you have or having things because you’ve seen them on Pinterest and you feel they are compulsory, it’s about your friends and family being together to celebrate your love. Will and I saved so much by spending time on making our decor, thoroughly enjoyed it along the way, and felt so proud on the day because it was all a result of our partnership.

Today’s lovely bride Ruth got in touch with me to show me her wonderfully creative woodland wedding to Stolly. They married this summer, celebrating in a woodland clearing – the space had nothing; they hired tipis and decorated the space themselves (along with lots of help from friends and family). I love how the woodland setting comes into its own in the evening, with fabulous lighting and areas for everyone to chat, dance and toast marshmallows around the fire! This is beautiful, free and goes to show there are no rules when it comes to wedding planning!

“I made all of our stationery, from detail on the name places to table name centrepieces and the mirror table plan and drinks list. I also painted signs on wood to decorate the trees – I love arts and crafts. I’m an interior designer so wanted a wedding that was a blank canvas that we could put our own stamp on. We love visiting Stolly’s family in the Cotswolds and wanted an outdoor wedding. We found the perfect woods near them but there was nothing there so we made everything beforehand: both families and my incredible bridesmaids helped us basically build a festival.

Today you get to see one of the loveliest weddings to grace my inbox this year. The ideas are wonderful; the craftsmanship fabulous on so many levels. Gorgeous bride Emma made her own dress and corset – she looks amazing and I love her style! I love the flowers, the way the venue looks, the bar(!) – how cool does that look?! – and Peter and Emma are just perfect together.

Peter designed all our wedding stationery using the Adobe Creative Suite then had it printed through Printed.com. He did a fantastic job, it was very personal to us and very reasonably priced.

I love this wedding, the blues, the pretty bouquet and all of the wonderful handmade touches. Rachel and Damian are a gorgeous couple – and then there’s the venue. Oh, my word – what a fabulous space to celebrate in!!

open barn wedding with DIY decor in Surrey by Penny Young Photography (48)

“We were incredibly fortunate that a family friend, who lives next door to the church we got married in, offered her garden and barns to us. It was such a naturally beautiful and down-to-earth space that we knew without looking anywhere else that it was the place for us. We had the meal in an open barn and then the evening dancing and drinks were opposite in the old barn and marquees. It was very open to the elements and in the whole month leading up to the wedding it was incredibly wet and windy so there were lots of weather-proofing and contingency discussions but in the end we were very lucky with the weather!”

If I ever have a wedding, I hope I’ll be able to describe the day as Maud does hers: “A beautiful, colourful day filled with love and madness.” In my world, this is everything a wedding should be! And Maud looks amazing, she and Andy both do. I jumped at the chance to share their day with you – the images capture the spirit and excitement of the day in such a magical way!

There are two things I really love about this wedding: it’s all about love, family, friends, and laughter and having fun; and the attention to detail and the care that went into styling everything is outstanding. The colours, the flowers, the dress (custom made for our beautiful bride – I LOVE it!) This would be my perfect wedding.

Our venue needed loads of decoration, which was all done by us a few days before! Lots of make do and mend, old pillow cases and candles. No supplier would have been able to get it as right as my mum and dad did. Loads of family and friends helped the night before!

DIY weddings don’t get much prettier than this… and beautiful bride Rosie just happened to marry her lovely husband at one of our favourite wedding venues, the fabulous Launcells Barton in Cornwall. Safe to say then, that today’s wedding is magical inside and out…

The flowers are divine – gorgeous colours, super bright and colourful throughout the day. I love Rosie’s flowers in her hair – aren’t they pretty? The cake is spectacular, the bouquet wonderfully trailing foliage and with statement blooms to create a real talking point. The crafts are so lovely too… I adore the pretty baubles on the tree, the forget-me-not favours and sweet place settings.

Rosie’s dress is stunning! I do love seeing brides in colours other than white, and the pattern on her full skirt is so so pretty. Bridesmaids wear the softest sage green; what’s not to fall head over heels in love with here?

Those of you who’ve spent any time at all on the English Wedding Blog will know me for my love of letters. I spend my days writing calligraphy, and teaching the art of beautiful lettering to brides and creative folks at my Manchester workshops. Words are most definitely my thing. (Oh! I’m teaching the last class of the year on the 18th of November. You can book here)

Caroline and Sam’s big day is absolutely, 100%, wonderfully and amazingly perfect for the English Wedding Blog – even without the zipwire (which is a total bonus! Love it!) The hand lettering and all the DIY elements are so up my street – the amount of time and hard work that went into styling this wedding paid off wonderfully. The ‘it was always you’ sign; the ceramic tiles, the lettering everywhere… it’s just so inspiring I don’t know where to begin!

Today’s bride Lucy is stunning, she has the most amazing smile. The bouquet caught my eye straight away, it’s just insanely pretty – and I love love love their style and all the special little touches. Sam’s look is perfect for a modern wedding (grooms, take note!) and for a village hall this is just blindingly beautiful! I wish I got more real wedding submissions from Wales…

My bouquet was by Charlotte from Verity and Thyme and the rest I (and my uni girls) did . The bridesmaids and all decorative flowers were done by us the day before. My bouquet was SO lovely – charlotte had seen a handful of inspirational images from me and created the most perfect blooms!
