Canals have a romance all of their very own, don’t you think? If you’ve ever strolled along a canal before sunset you’ll know how wonderfully tranquil those towpaths can be. The adventure of drifting through England’s hidden waterways is one I dream of experiencing, one day. So Heather and Michael’s day has my heart: their photos by the locks are beautiful; their tipi reception is full of character and quaint old English charm – it’s perfect.

“The ceremony was held in a very low key structure next to a canal in Leicestershire with the reception in the tipi next to it. The venue is fairly new and quite quirky with narrow boats passing by and a bar that looks like a moored up boat.

Heather made all the decor herself and it was lovely. Heather and Michael are expecting a baby so the day was full of lots of lovely emotional moments, which wedding photographer Helen King captures beautifully in the images.

Village hall wedding styling ideas from Northumberland with Andy Hudson Photography (5)

If you’ve ever lived in a little English village, you’ll get how perfectly these images capture the spirit of such a place. I’m a village girl – I grew up in a tiny Cumbrian village, moved away, moved back to another Cumbrian village and put roots down here – I just love village life! So Clare and Phil’s day leapt out from all of the submissions in my inbox for today’s real wedding feature. My fave pic is the one with the whole bridal party sat by the wall… it reminds me of the lyrics to Pulp’s Disco 2000…

“Clare & Phil were married in Clare’s home village of Felton, a small rural village about 10 miles outside of Alnwick in Northumberland.  They had their ceremony at the local church before moving to the village hall for their reception.

I love all the thought and time Jess put into styling her wedding to Antony! The detail of her dress and hairpiece are so pretty; I adore the bunting too. Everything about this day sings of summer, and I know you’ll love it as much as I do! Have a glorious day, everyone!

“The wedding was all my brainchild. It was as much as a surprise to Antony on the day as it was with everybody else. Luckily I had time 2 and half years of planning time which was important to me as I wanted to be involved in every process! It started with a mood board on Pinterest, lots and lots of car boot sale and charity shop trips hunting for tea cups and saucers, craft weekends and days spend tackling the Amazon which was my inlaws’ garden. I can’t take all the credit: I have a fantastic family who helped make my dream come true. In particular my mother in law who spent hours and hours shopping, painting and gluing!

Thistles and kilts for a Scottish themed wedding in Penrith, with Jessica Lang Photography (12)

Today’s wedding is wonderful. A glorious mix of Lakeland and Scottish styling touches, with home grown flowers (all of them – isn’t that amazing?!), DIY details and the most beautiful bride and gorgeous groom. The venue is lovely Askham Hall, which looks fabulous and has the most incredible gardens for outdoor shots. I think my fave thing about Cally and Colin’s wedding is all the help they had from friends and family to bring their day together, and all the personal touches – an heirloom kilt; hand painted table names; oh! and a genius idea of a song from the best men which Cally explains in her interview below. You’ll love this…

A friend and colleague recommended Jess, then we met and viewed her portfolio and loved the natural, candid shots and gorgeous scenery. Jess seemed able to capture the best of every aspect in her photographs, and her relaxed and bubbly demeanour put us instantly at ease. We knew straight away that she was the right photographer for us.

I feel as though I’ve been on a journey with gypsophila – baby’s breath – over the years. In the early days of the English Wedding Blog it was a little-known bridal flower. Then with the vintage trend and especially with more DIY and budget weddings, it became the go-to flower for styled shoots and a perfect complement to the jam jars, hessian and lace look. And then, it plummeted from favour right along with chair covers and sugared almonds!!

All images are by Ayshea Goldberg Photography – full supplier credit list and link to the original feature (which is fabulous!) at the end of the post

One leading wedding florist who I discovered on Instagram a few weeks ago hates gypsophila so much he’d like to ban it from weddings! (Does anyone know who this guy is?! I’ve lost the link to his account and his opinions made for a great read!) Now, this comes across as a little extreme. I asked my wedding supplier friends if they agreed with him: is gypsophila totally over as a wedding flower, or is it something we can reinvent and fall back in love with for 2017?

Weddings full of personality are the absolute best! Today’s gorgeous bride and groom had a relaxed, outdoor/festival style theme and being big cider lovers they incorporated this into the day. I adore the sunflowers and mixed wildflower bouquet and table arrangements – they add fun and sunshine in the loveliest way ever! And isn’t Nicola beautiful? Honestly, such a gorgeous couple and I’m thrilled to be sharing their wedding with you all today!

“We were privileged to have Kirsty Andrews from Escential Blooms do our flowers. An absolutely fantastic lady who is so great to work with and brings your ideas to life. We wanted wild flowers and Kirsty used those that were in season at the time. We didn’t want a set colour theme and Kirsty listened to this and used so many different colours with a range of beautiful smells! From the wedding arbour to the tables and the addition of flowers to the cake and table plan. Even some for my hair. Just stunning!

I LOVE all the details of this wedding… the dried flowers, Thomas’s suit (I love it when a groom wears something different to the norm) and Danielle is just so beautiful – welcome to the wedding of a fabulous couple whose gorgeous wedding DIY and wonderful wedding planning advice will inspire you so, so much!

We were looking for a candid, informal approach to our photography. Someone who could capture all the emotion of the day as naturally as possible, someone that we felt comfortable to be around, and who was also affordable! After researching for many hours at countless websites and suppliers, we came across Damian. We liked the look of his work online and his portfolios, so we contacted him for further details. After meeting him at our home, we knew instantly he was our photographer!

How is your Easter weekend going? It’s been so lovely taking a few days to relax and enjoy our beach. Don’t forget, I’m inviting all wedding suppliers to apply to join the English Wedding Directory for just £30 this weekend – I’d love to hear from you! Now, if I had to use just one word to describe this wedding, it would be happiness. Everything just radiates joy to me… the fabulous smiles of our beautiful bride and groom Nicola and Joe, the cheery, bright barn venue and the special little touches. It’s all just perfect, and so wonderfully summery too!

“The venue was so stunning we wanted to enhance it rather than transform it. We filled the garden with paper flowers we’d made in our colour scheme, and hung bunting and fairy lights in the barn.

I handmade all the bunting – I think I got to about 100 metres worth by the end! Me and my girlfriends also made about 400 paper tulips to scatter round the venue, we hated the sight of them by the end but wine and snacks got us through and they looked amazing on the day.

As the bluebells are almost out on the hillsides here in the Lakes, I thought it would be the perfect time to share this gorgeous day with you. Tristan and Kayleigh had a beautiful woodland wedding in springtime, surrounded by bluebells and incorporating them into their theme. The bride and groom are just naturally beautiful – theirs could be my perfect wedding, I think. I just love the flowers, wooden decor and raffia which bring their natural spring wedding look together.

“The whole event was homemade with help from family. Stand out out pices were the bar, cake stand and the arch the ceremony was under. We also created a coloring book from some old photos for the children along with some sweets and disposable cameras.”

What an amazing wedding this is – I’m so excited to share this wonderful day with you! The dried flowers are fabulous as far as details go, and I love Gemma & Christian to bits – their gorgeous smiles make this an unmissable day, it’s perfect for the blog!

Everything about Gemma & Christians wedding was super – from the traditional church wedding, to the dried floral headpieces, to the rustic DIY Barn with hay bales as walls, to the afternoon tea wedding breakfast!

Mine and my bridesmaids hair pieces were real dried vintage flowers, handmade, and into a headband for myself and three matching combs for my bridesmaids – the supplier was Folky Dokey. Very unique and again fitted the whole theme perfectly, carrrying the vintage style throughout. My shoes were my favourite shoe brand – Irregular Choice. They were lacy and slightly vintage to match my theme. I loved them. One of my bridesmaids bought me my blue garter and I carried a butterfly brooch on my bouquet from a close family friend who had recently passed away before the wedding, which was a lovely touch and felt very special for me to have close by.

I LOVE this wedding!! It’s wintry but not too Christmassy (which means I can happily publish it in spring!) and the bride and groom are gorgeous. I especially love Tom’s tweed suit and cap – and Katherine’s hair is sooooo beautiful. The little mice holding flowers are the icing on the cake… just wonderful.

Our wedding flowers by Hollyhocks Florist were beautful dark purple Calla Lilies, amnesia roses and gyp – looked amazing! It was Christmas so we had beautiful decorations for free! A floor to ceiling high Christmas tree, and miniature ones in the windows. We went for hessian bows on all the chairs. Our invitations, order of service and confetti were all homemade. They took a long time, but they were cheap and added some extra love to the day!
