Becky and Pete’s rustic barn wedding combines a classic colour scheme with more contemporary details – and it’s just amazing. Becky told me, “I sort of built the idea of the day around the beautiful rustic barn… my flowers were quite rustic and wild with lots of foliage, so wooden/greenery/purple was our theme!

Wedding at Channels Lodge by Laura Calderwood Photography (32)

Gorgeous bride Becky did a fantastic job styling her wedding, along with her mum spending time creating lots of DIY bits and bobs: “I hand-made a lot of the decorations and details – my mum made the favours and planted all of our table centres herself.” They suited the barn at Channels Golf Club perfectly – I especially love the flowers in planters on every table, and the funky purple table numbers!

Kristen and Adam’s winter wedding has everything: a pretty sense of style, DIY details and quirky personal touches which are special to them. This gorgeous couple chose to marry at Northbrook Park in winter, for the very best reasons: “it is a lot cheaper and you get to go somewhere really nice and sunny for honeymoon! 🙂

It’s this kind of creative thinking I love best about UK couples! And creativity is a key part of their wedding style too: Kristen and Adam put so much into styling their wedding with DIY invitations and details – they did an amazing job and the overall look of the day is wonderful.

Kristen is a stunning bride, wearing a gown by Sophia Tolli with Vivienne Westwood pearls and shoes by Rainbow Club. She’s radiant in the winter sunshine and looks so incredibly happy with new husband Adam – the perfect English bride and groom.

Rebecca and Howard have the most relaxed approach to wedding planning I’ve seen – the preparations took “about 6 months”, they spent as little as possible and rather than having a theme they styled their country style wedding day with the things they liked… including 1950s music, natural flowers (which I adore!) oh, and Landrovers!

country style wedding Essex (20)

Howard looks the part in a proper English bowler hat – I love it! And Rebecca is simply stunning in a gorgeous lace sleeved dress by Ellis Bridals. The images are wonderful, and the story of this wedding is one I love. It’s a simple, natural and relaxed wedding – from start to finish. It can take months and months of preparation to make a wedding look rustic, natural and simple… or it can actually be all of those things! Rebecca and Howard’s wedding is genuine and all the more beautiful for it.

Next time you pass a field, consider it as your wedding venue! It might need a bit of work as far as decor and styling goes, you might need a little cover in case it rains on the day, and it could appear a huge challenge at first…. but if you’re enthusiastic about a DIY outdoor wedding then this is an amazing story you’ll want to read!

Faye and Trevor had a rustic wedding in a field in Berkshire, where they celebrated with a handfasting ceremony and treated guests to a beautiful marquee reception. Faye is absolutely stunning; Trevor looks fab in his pale suit and together they make the most gorgeous couple! They’re talented too, and with all their friends created a magical, musical wedding I think is incredible!!

Pete and Claire are one of those couples who instantly make me smile. They’re a perfect match, absolutely gorgeous and their smiles warm my heart. They styled a rustic barn wedding at The Barn at South Milton, and together with family and friends created a wonderful day full of personality and charm.

Helen and Andy’s Gloucestershire wedding is everything a country fete should be: warm and welcoming, full of flowers and pretty decor, and created with the help of friends and family – with details and gifts including flowers grown from seed by a kind neighbour, a wedding cake made by a friend of the bride’s Mum and some fabulous hand painted wedding signs.

The venue is one of the stars of this outdoor wedding and from Helen’s wedding report I gather the venue owners were true stars, helping to create the perfect day. I loved hearing how Helen had been on a screen printing course and designed all of the wedding invitations – isn’t that fabulous?

Proof that you don’t need to style your day around a restrictive ‘theme’ – Mahdieh and Joshua’s wedding is full of bright colours, and definitely has tons of character. Today’s gorgeous couple fell in love at first sight when they met as students and after getting engaged they spent just over a year planning their big day.

Isla Gladstone wedding blog (1)

Their venue is contemporary and deliciously different: the Isla Gladstone, a converted Victorian conservatory set amidst picture-perfect rose gardens and lakes, surrounded by historic stone pavilions.

This is a wonderfully colourful wedding with lots of character and some brilliant advice from the happy couple at the end of the feature. If things go wrong, smile and carry on – Mahdieh told me, “We were too busy enjoying ourselves to get stressed out about anything… the little hiccups were mostly just funny!” She’s most definitely my kind of bride… and I hope you enjoy their wedding as much as I did!

The jury is out as to whether today’s wedding is more of an “Ewok party” or a “secret wedding in the woods” – and our beautiful bride and gorgeous groom can’t decide! What’s for sure is that this is one of the best weddings I’ve seen – and it really fits both descriptions beautifully. Weddings should be a magical adventure in every way, and Louise and Toby made theirs so much more than that – it’s just brilliant!

secret wedding in the woods (1)

Their wedding photographer is the very lovely Clare West, a documentary photographer based in Reading. She comes very highly recommended by today’s star bride and groom, and I love that she captures the details of the day so beautifully. Louise told me, “Clare took time to capture a lot of the little details and delicate touches that we had spent so long working on.” For me that’s really important! Details and special touches are the frame around the essence of your wedding: just as you’d place a cherished photo in a special frame, if you wrap your wedding in prettiness then you want to have detail photographs in your album to recreate the atmosphere of your day around those magical moments, right?

Hello lovely! Today’s wedding is full of home made details by the gorgeous bride and her mum. Jamie and Geoff planned a vintage tea party theme for their day and as they were saving up for a house they needed to keep their wedding costs down. So while Geoff played cricket every Saturday during the summer, Jamie and her mum spent countless hours making everything from stationery to bunting.

Woodborough Hall wedding blog (1)

The wonderfully couple only spent money on the things which couldn’t be made: the wedding cake, entertainment, venue and of course their lovely photographer! Jamie shares some very wise advice, and I really have to highlight this: “If you want to save money, making your own things is a great idea but it takes hours… we spent every Saturday for a year and only finished a few days before the wedding.

The homespun look is big at the moment, but don’t underestimate the time it takes! Remember there’s a difference between home made and handcrafted, and there are many wonderful independent craft businesses who can save you time instead!

I adored Holly and Paul from the moment I first saw their wedding pictures on Tracy Morter‘s photography blog. They’re a creative couple who planned a gorgeous wedding with a focus on family and friends. Thank you beautiful Holly, you rock!

There is so much to see, I don’t know where to begin to introduce this gorgeous wedding: Holly’s beautiful flower crown, her natural hair and make up style, the lovely dress bought in New York… and then Paul’s fantastic blue suit, the incredibly decorative venue… or the laughter and smiles from the beginning of the day through to the last dance…

I shared a comment from today’s bride Sam on facebook a couple of weeks ago – I absolutely couldn’t resist: I love a good love story, don’t you?! Back in 2006 Sam was travelling with a friend in New Zealand, and happened to meet Huw there. When her friend returned home, Sam told me “I decided to stay and spent three of the most amazing months of my life travelling around New Zealand with a man I had just met – I think my friends and family thought I was slightly crazy!” Luckily Huw was from England and lived only half an hour away from Sam… and they stayed together and were married a few years later.

English country wedding blog (1)

Did I mention their wedding is beeeaautiful?! Sam’s mum made her wedding dress; Sam made all of their gorgeous stationery; and – possibly the best story of all – Sam’s dad went to bead jewellery-making classes, learned how to make a headpiece and made Sam and her bridesmaids beautiful hair accessories for the big day!
