Happy Saturday everyone! What are your plans? I’m really excited – I’m on a sten do this weekend, it’s going to be brilliant… and we’re outside all day so the sunshine is an absolute bonus!! But can you believe it’s going to be July tomorrow?! Me neither… let’s see June out in style, shall we? Today’s inspirational feature comes from lovely Steph Yeo Photography, based in Yorkshire. The styling is rustic and romantic – a beautiful mix to inspire the growing number of couples celebrating their weddings in converted barn wedding venues and still looking for elegance and a dash of fairytale… it’s beautiful and I hope you love it as much as I do!

With the popularity of barn venues rising for the modern day bride and groom, The Barns in East Yorkshire is a perfect wedding venue. Close to the river bank the venue is spread over two barns, with an outdoor firepit and lots of fairy lights.

I’m secretly loving the fact that it’s not only wedding season right now, it’s beginning to feel like elopement season too. If you’re considering it – just do it! And if you need convincing, check out this week’s TWO elopement features on the English Wedding Blog. The first we featured on Tuesday (Daryl & Kathryn in Canada) and the second is here for you right now. Gorgeous girls Marta & Zoe have been together for 9 years, but with Marta’s family being in Brazil the girls won’t have a big wedding over here. Instead, wedding photographer Verity Westcott and a team of lovely suppliers joined forces to create a beautiful elopement styled shoot with all the ‘trimmings’!

Cornwall is the most beautiful location, don’t you think? Where would you elope, if you could?

The summer solstice has been and gone… but I’ve been saving up something really special to mark the occasion. I’d have loved to visit Stonehenge in the days before it was a mega visitor centre – sadly my chance has passed, but I do still believe there’s a magic in the beautiful rolling hills nearby. Lucky enough to be situated on the edge of the Stonehenge world heritage site and set in the grounds of a 17th century manor house, The Manor Barn has been sympathetically restored to the highest possible standards as a charmingly timeless wedding venue.

Today’s editorial comes from lovely Pippa at The Manor Barn, along with a bunch of fabulously talented local wedding suppliers who collaborated to set the scene for an elegant spring wedding with edgy and beautiful contemporary touches. It’s one of my favourite shoots so far this year – and as such it was a key feature in the English Wedding Bible at the beginning of this month.

Hints of today’s faded beauty editorial appeared in the English Wedding Bible at the beginning of the month – call it a sneak peek. There is so much more I’ve been so excited to share with you, and the styling is right up my street, created by lovely Nikki from Knots & Kisses. Her concepts are simply stunning – her eye for wedding styling is exceptional. The stationery and cake just blow my mind! Here’s Nikki to tell you more…

The inspiration for the shoot started with a visit to the wonderful Great Fulford and the beautiful but slightly dilapidated rooms with their bare brick and peeling plaster. It automatically evoked feelings of Great Expectations for me and Miss Havisham’s dining room. A feel of faded beauty and elegance which I thought would be a beautiful backdrop for a shoot.

My aim was to inspire couples to realise the opportunity to set their wedding in more unusual places than your average manor house – that industrial and run down spaces could be the perfect backdrop for a wedding.

Modern blue styling ideas with calligraphy for an alternative beach wedding (6)

Last summer I styled an editorial photoshoot very close to home – as many of you know, I live on the edge of the Lake District and within minutes’ walk of the beach. When lovely Sheryl from Oobaloos Photography suggested we do a photoshoot here, I just couldn’t say no. I’m a huge believer in letting your surroundings influence the style of your day, and my choice of suppliers to take part in the shoot was inspired by the wild beaches of south Cumbria – my favourite place in the world.

Previously featured on Love My Dress blog (thank you lovely Annabel!), this shoot was designed to show you how to incorporate simple touches inspired by waves and the sea into your wedding day. We styled a simple table with fabrics, foliage and calligraphy in lush blues and golds, with glassware from lovely Narrative Hire.

If you have half an hour or so free this Sunday afternoon, I would love for you to check out our digital magazine, the English Wedding Bible. I love curating all the features, shoots, writing articles and putting the publication together, and I really hope you’ll enjoy snuggling down with your phone or tablet and having a good old read! Of course, the shoots in the magazine are the ones which really knock my little socks off – and you’ll recognise some of the images from the blog today when you read the magazine too! The flowers in this shoot are just divine – they’re perfect for a spring bouquet with a glorious combination of roses with eucalyptus, sweet peas, wax flower and green hellebores. Images are by our lovely friend and English Wedding sponsor, Amanda Karen Photography. The shoot was styled by lovely Emma Turner Weddings, and there’s a full supplier list below. Here’s Emma to tell you more!

I would love to see the guitar take the place of the vintage bicycle in wedding styling. Bikes kind of became a wedding thing about 5 years ago… and if we’re going to have random props as part of our wedding displays, I’d just love to see guitars take centre stage for a while! In today’s gorgeous shoot, they do.

Fine art bridal portraits by Kathryn Hopkins Photography on the English Wedding Blog (31)

We spend an average of eighteen months planning a wedding – and the day itself is over in the blink of an eye. Imagine if you could spend just a little more time in your dress; have a few tranquil moments to enjoy being a bride again, after your wedding day.

Beautiful bride Faye spent a little time with one of the loveliest photographers I know – Kathryn Hopkins – doing just that. They went along to Great Ashfield House for a post-bridal shoot and captured a romantic set of images, taking time to make more memories for Faye of her bridal style and dress.

Weddings are so fast paced with little time to dedicate to one element during the day, so it is really lovely to be able to spend a couple of hours just documenting the bride’s style and dress after the wedding day.  I definitely recommend any bride treating themselves to a day of pampering on set and enjoying their dress again before it gets packed away forever.” ~ Kathryn Hopkins

Who else adores peonies? I bought more than I could carry home from my calligraphy workshop last week, and they’re still blooming fabulously on my mantelpiece! So to share the peony love, I have this stunning shoot for you today from our lovely friend Gwenda at Bohotanical and photographer Heline Bekker. Get your Pinterest face ready and prepare to fall HEAD OVER HEELS….!

Gwenda explains how the shoot came about…
“The premise of this shoot was to find beauty in simplicity, exploring how a restrained colour palette and minimal detail can be anything but bland! That Amazing Place is a fabulous space – something of a blank canvas, but filled with character, so just perfect for the aesthetic of this shoot. I’ve always loved ribbons, and although tying a decent bow drives me to distraction, my first thought was to use them as the key motif. As we were shooting in June, peonies were the obvious choice; I hadn’t ever just used them on their own, without foliage or other blooms, so this seemed like as good a time as any to do so. I picked them all from a local flower farm, and chose an array of pinks, mostly soft but with both brighter and deeper touches for interest, and various petal formations for texture. All the varieties came together in the bouquet, which had trailing ribbons in coordinating pinks; then on the table, single stems were placed in small vases to each could shine by itself.

Imagine your wedding morning, waking up at a beautiful venue and getting ready for your best day ever. You’ll be pampered and looked after by your family and your best girls. Your dress will be waiting, hung up ready for you to wear. The anticipation and excitement will be bubbling over… and this will be a morning to remember for the rest of your life, because in just a few short hours you’ll be married. Oh my…

Today’s editorial focuses on a bridal morning in a boutique hotel by the name of St Michaels, in the pretty Cotswolds town of Painswick. Gloucestershire wedding photographer Nadia Dixon got in touch with me to share this shoot, which she hopes will inspire couples to consider the Cotswolds as a place to get married. “Painswick has everything to offer for organising a magnificent wedding event. We would like more couples to find out about Painswick. That’s why we’ve started to work on a local wedding project aiming to bring together local vendors. This photoshoot is the first small step in a grand plan!
