We spend an average of eighteen months planning a wedding – and the day itself is over in the blink of an eye. Imagine if you could spend just a little more time in your dress; have a few tranquil moments to enjoy being a bride again, after your wedding day.

Beautiful bride Faye spent a little time with one of the loveliest photographers I know – Kathryn Hopkins – doing just that. They went along to Great Ashfield House for a post-bridal shoot and captured a romantic set of images, taking time to make more memories for Faye of her bridal style and dress.

Weddings are so fast paced with little time to dedicate to one element during the day, so it is really lovely to be able to spend a couple of hours just documenting the bride’s style and dress after the wedding day.  I definitely recommend any bride treating themselves to a day of pampering on set and enjoying their dress again before it gets packed away forever.” ~ Kathryn Hopkins

Who else adores peonies? I bought more than I could carry home from my calligraphy workshop last week, and they’re still blooming fabulously on my mantelpiece! So to share the peony love, I have this stunning shoot for you today from our lovely friend Gwenda at Bohotanical and photographer Heline Bekker. Get your Pinterest face ready and prepare to fall HEAD OVER HEELS….!

Gwenda explains how the shoot came about…
“The premise of this shoot was to find beauty in simplicity, exploring how a restrained colour palette and minimal detail can be anything but bland! That Amazing Place is a fabulous space – something of a blank canvas, but filled with character, so just perfect for the aesthetic of this shoot. I’ve always loved ribbons, and although tying a decent bow drives me to distraction, my first thought was to use them as the key motif. As we were shooting in June, peonies were the obvious choice; I hadn’t ever just used them on their own, without foliage or other blooms, so this seemed like as good a time as any to do so. I picked them all from a local flower farm, and chose an array of pinks, mostly soft but with both brighter and deeper touches for interest, and various petal formations for texture. All the varieties came together in the bouquet, which had trailing ribbons in coordinating pinks; then on the table, single stems were placed in small vases to each could shine by itself.

Imagine your wedding morning, waking up at a beautiful venue and getting ready for your best day ever. You’ll be pampered and looked after by your family and your best girls. Your dress will be waiting, hung up ready for you to wear. The anticipation and excitement will be bubbling over… and this will be a morning to remember for the rest of your life, because in just a few short hours you’ll be married. Oh my…

Today’s editorial focuses on a bridal morning in a boutique hotel by the name of St Michaels, in the pretty Cotswolds town of Painswick. Gloucestershire wedding photographer Nadia Dixon got in touch with me to share this shoot, which she hopes will inspire couples to consider the Cotswolds as a place to get married. “Painswick has everything to offer for organising a magnificent wedding event. We would like more couples to find out about Painswick. That’s why we’ve started to work on a local wedding project aiming to bring together local vendors. This photoshoot is the first small step in a grand plan!

Before I tell you about today’s gorgeous feature, I think perhaps I should mention tomorrow. My inbox is full to bursting with royal wedding spam… the media is going into overdrive (ooooh, so many comments, opinions and criticisms of weddings! Please, make it stop!) but until now I’ve mentioned nothing about the royal wedding on the English Wedding Blog. Why? Well, I’m just not a fan of the royal family! sorry everyone! – so this week is very much business as usual (with gorgeous inspiration and real weddings) on the blog every day. This morning I wanted to share a shoot I’ve had up my sleeve for far too long… it’s beautiful, atmospheric and wonderfully inspiring. I hope you love it!

I came across this venue several months ago by accident really at the start of its renovation to bring its beauty and history back to life. Rather than waffle on about it here, it will probably be easier to have a read over on their new website that launched this week – www.balcombeplace.com

This stunning shoot from Sarah Maria Photography is full of colour, laughter and styling ideas for you to take away and recreate at your own wedding. There are vibrant florals, gorgeous backdrops with pretty lettering, divine dresses and fun and funky styling touches. The venue is The Faversham, an award winning Leeds wedding venue with three very different spaces for weddings.

Do go visit Sarah’s website, read her blog and her brilliant and heartfelt advice about hiring a wedding photographer (based on personal experience and absolutely spot on!) – and get in touch to see if she’s free on your wedding day!

The Faversham offers so much more than your usual city centre location. Theres a large lawn area for giant games and post-ceremony drinks, a conservatory where you can say your vows before heading to the Victorian room to chill and catch up with friends and family. The whole place is just perfect for a laid back, non-traditional, relaxed wedding day – and today’s shoot shows some genius ways for styling your day to suit!

I am SO pleased it’s the weekend! I’ve had my nose buried in handwritten invites for an American wedding this week, all while I teach myself how to do Instagram stories (I’m so late, I know!) – and today I’m road tripping down to Manchester with my man to play at escape rooms and hang out with three of my favourite people in the world. In the meantime… this gorgeous wedding editorial is insanely beautiful and full of lush florals in a refreshingly different colour palette. I think you’ll love it…

Images are by our old friend Greg from TP Photography in Dorset – they capture the details and atmosphere of the shoot so beautifully, don’t you think? Lovely Oonagh from The English Florist created a floral chandelier, table centrepieces, buttonholes and breathtaking bouquets with Icelandic poppies, ranunculus, ‘Panda’ anemones and white O’Hara roses. I’ll hand over to Oonagh to tell us a little about the inspiration and styling ideas – and the wonderful venue (which I hadn’t heard of before – and which totally has my heart!)…

Today’s blog feature is brought to you by fate. You know sometimes life falls into place in such an incredible way? Everything comes together and something beautiful happens…

The dresses are just divine – they’re by lovely Phiney from Poppy Perspective. Phiney designs bespoke wedding dresses and we’re incredibly excited for the launch of her first collection in 2019. The images are by fabulously talented Sheradon Dublin Photography, based in Kent and London. He’s pretty damn awesome.

None of these images would have existed if not for a magical twist of fate and a healthy dose of spontaneity from Sheradon and Phiney. The venue became free at the very last minute (and just days before it was due to be sold); Instagram and local connections brought together a brilliant group of creatives, and the results are just breathtaking…

I love the idea of a vineyard wedding, and as a wedding blogger I see so many gorgeous celebrations from Californian vineyards… but did you know we have our very own vineyards here in the UK? Today’s gorgeous shoot comes from Hidden Spring Vineyard in East Sussex. The Tasting Room at Hidden Spring makes for a lovely wedding reception room, and the vineyard location is wonderfully inspiring for your wedding theme… especially when you can book some of the fab suppliers who collaborated on this creative shoot!

As a wedding stylist I encourage my couples not to go with a theme but instead be inspired by their surroundings and not be afraid to mix antiques and modern items.  This creates depth and texture in the overall design of a tablescape or room – the results are just magical!

So how’s your sunshine today, lovelies? I’m loving this week – it feels like SUMMER!! I can play in my garden and walk on the beach… it’s heaven. Right now I’m working on the next edition of the English Wedding Bible, which we’re publishing in May. If you’d like to be a part of it, get in touch with your ideas for shoots, articles or real weddings we can feature. Today though, we’re all about al fresco wedding dining, herbs and botanicals with a gorgeous editorial from Gaynes Park which was sent in by English Wedding Directory member, lovely Gwenda at The Gilded Fern. She’s here to tell you more!

I may be a floral designer, but I’ve got a major soft spot for plants and foliage! I often include some herbs in buttonholes and cake decorations, so the concept of this shoot stemmed from there. Herbs are often short-stemmed, so I took a little bit of artistic licence in my choices, for the bouquet, which included olive leaf, thlaspi (aka penny-cress), lavender, calendula, chamomile daisies, dill, and mentha. Many of these were also made into leaf and petal confetti.

If you love where you live, why not incorporate the essence of the place into your wedding day? You really can get married wherever you’d like nowadays – with the help of a celebrant you can say your vows on the beach, on a mountain top, on a boat, a lake… pretty much anywhere. I’m one of those lucky creatives who live close to the Lake District – and today’s blog post is all about bringing the spirit of a place into your wedding styling.

Previously featured on Love My Dress blog (thank you lovely Annabel!), this shoot was styled and brought to life by me! Sheryl from Oobaloos Photography came to stay, I asked a few more of my favourite suppliers from around the UK to help out, and I’m thrilled to say they did – and all brought their A game on the day!
