Fancy joining me in Dorset this morning? It’s a lovely day for a virtual road trip, and we’re with gorgeous couple Lucy & James this morning for their wedding at Axnoller. These two celebrated in style with a sophisticated, elegant and stunning wedding. It’s a dream wedding with outdoor dining, fairy lights and dreamy florals – and all captured beautifully by our friend and English Wedding member, Dorset wedding photographer Robin Goodlad Photography. Scroll all the way through the images for the most EPIC golden hour and sunset photos, won’t you?

With love,

How did you choose your photographer?

We found Robin’s Instagram as he had shot weddings at our venue before. We immediately fell in love with his intimate, reportage style.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

Robin and his assistant Azad were brilliant. We trusted them implicitly so were only too happy to let them take the lead, letting their creative imaginations run wild. We were delighted with the results.

Videographer details if applicable – and any thoughts for other couples about having a wedding video?

Our videographer Hannah Aldridge was fantastic – we have watched the video hundreds of times and it brings back so many special memories, taking us right back to those happy moments. Having the video is one of the most important things we opted for.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

Axnoller was the only venue we looked at – as soon as we visited we knew it was the right place for us. We loved the indoor / outdoor options and the continental feel of the courtyard with its beautiful flowers and plants. Having so many of our family and friends staying on site for the whole weekend meant it was one hell of a party!

We hadn’t planned to have our ceremony at Chedington Court but a legal dispute meant we would not be able to have it at Axnoller itself. We feel the circumstances were serendipitous – our ceremony was more beautiful than we had ever imagined and we were so grateful to be able to use such a wonderful building in which to say our vows.

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?

I bought my dress in a sample sale at Angelica Bridal in Angel, North London. As it was a sample it meant I could take it home on the day I bought it, a year before the wedding. It was amazing to be able to try it on countless times so I could properly visualise how my outfit and the styling would work on the day. We had James’s suit tailored at Hackett on a trip to Edinburgh with his parents. It was so nice to be able to share the experience of choosing all the personal details (such as the bespoke lining) with all four of us involved.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness

Our florist Teresa from Treezandflowers was wonderful. She understood my vision from the get go and did everything she could to bring it to reality. The incredible smell of my beautiful bouquet is something I will never forget!

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

We had Colin and Connie Caterpillars from Marks and Spencers as our wedding cake – firm family favourites from many birthdays gone by!

Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves

As wedding favours we had photos printed for every guest of key moments we had shared together throughout our lives which represented our friendships. It’s rare that we have photos printed out nowadays and we really wanted every guest to feel special and to know how much we appreciated them. It was also so much fun looking through years of photos and choosing which ones to print for each person!

Did you personalise your vows or have any wedding readings? What were they?

We wrote our own wedding vows and managed to set each other off with a good cry each during the ceremony! We also asked both our mums to surprise us with readings they had chosen specifically for the day – it was a really nice way to give them an important and personal role.

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

Our first dance song was Reach Out by George Duke. We had so many songs which meant so much to us, it was really difficult to choose just one. In the end we went for the one which was going to get the party started in the best way possible!
