The importance of documenting our family and friends…

I hope you enjoy this heartwarming guest article by Love Gets Sweeter

During this bizarre time we find ourselves in, we are realising how special it is to stay connected with our family and friends. Trying our best to catch up with them over video calls, family zoom quizzes and online parties, and other cool ways to keep ourselves sane and connected. We are really getting creative in how we keep in touch with our loved ones during our time of lockdown and self isolation (who ever thought those would be words I’d write!?)

I’m a wedding videographer in Lancashire and have an energetic 5 year old called Paisley. I now find myself essentially ‘out of work’ until further notice and homeschooling.

I miss weddings. I hated school. It’s an odd combination right now!

But then something wonderful has already come out of this.

I see the joy she finds in entertaining everyone via our daily video calls. She even makes time to record her own videos to send to lucky family and friends. I can see how much it means to her AND to them to have those videos to watch and enjoy when they need a little Paisley fix! The smiles she brings makes us feel a little less alone right now!

When we get back to celebrating weddings I have visions of the BEST reunions we’ve ever known.

Hugs will linger that little bit longer.

Cheers will be even louder.

Happy tears will fall more than before.

Every couple will be filled with even more love as they enjoy watching their friends and family all reconnect surrounded by well thought out details and a personalised playlist to help them all celebrate together (oh I can’t wait to hear those playlists and see those moves on the dancefloor).

Can you imagine it too?

After the heartache of needing to postpone all your plans I can imagine visualising something so special to look forward to is a great way to keep positive about it all. There WILL be a wedding. You will get married. And, it’ll be even more special than before.

Recently I’ve seen a change in my wedding enquiries. From lots of lovely couples all over Lancashire and Cheshire and the North West saying that this time has made them rethink how important documenting the memories will mean to them.

How this day is now even more of a celebration and to not capture that on video feels like they’ll miss reliving some really important moments between not only themselves but all their wedding guests too.

Couples who had initially decided a video wasn’t for them are seeing the value in having their own wedding video now.

So, what’s important to you…?

Has all this made you start to rethink what your wedding means to you? What you want to focus on or what memory you want of the day?

Are you hoping for better memories to be captured? So like our own phone videos now, you can go back to them and feel all that energy again?

Before the day lots of couples tell me what’s really important to them.

With my lovely couples it’s usually about seeing everyone else have the best time. Seeing their guests enjoying their day and the bits they didn’t really see.

After the day those bits are still amazing to watch back but the moment that tends to bring the happy tears back is the reason there was a wedding in the first place…

The vows and the exchanging of rings. The moment you look into each other’s eyes and repeat those words back and then the big cheer as you get to kiss as a married couple.

Looking past you gazing at each other to see your best friend wiping away her happy tears.

To see your Mum squeeze your Dad’s hand that little bit tighter as you say I do.

I can hand on heart say I couldn’t remember any of my ceremony until I watched it back and it all came flooding back to me when I got to see it again.

And the more I watched it and shared it with my family and friends the more I saw. Every time I saw a little something new and exciting.

I do wonder if I’d have forgotten these moments if it wasn’t for being able to watch our wedding video back….

In fact, they’ll be moments I didn’t even see on the day and they’re forever in my wedding video.

So I guess this is my question to you now, how important is it to you to capture these moments now…?
