Hey lovelies, I hope you’re all staying safe and your loved ones are ok. It’s been one hell of a tough week – but I’m trying my best to bring a little spark of sunshine and joy with some beautiful real weddings. Today’s the turn of gorgeous couple Laura and Jonno, whose luxury wedding at Caswell House is simply wonderful to see. The flowers are insane, the dreamy May sunshine is a welcome reminder that we can all look forward to warmer days soon!

How did you choose your photographer?

Elliot photographed my sister’s wedding and, we not only loved the final photographs, but had amazing memories about how he was on the day. Elliot has a wonderful way of being there for every moment, without feeling like he’s there the whole time. There’s no unbearable hovering or feeling as though you’re surrounded by paparazzi. He made both myself and my husband relax and enjoy the photography – both being fairly awkward in front of the camera, this was pretty remarkable! He made the whole process fun and comfortable. And, the resulting images are fantastic!

Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?

We’re still both pretty blown away and, in all honesty, still haven’t managed to go through all of them in detail – there are 1300! This is actually a really lovely experience, as we keep finding photos that we haven’t really ‘seen’

Your wedding style or theme:

Classic but with rustic elements (being set in a converted barn). Personal touches were key.

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Mostly recommended by the venue – apart from my florist, photographer and videographer and drink supplier

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Just keep track of your spending, use Amazon and Etsy and don’t leave things to the last minute! It was particularly tricky for us, as we planned our entire wedding from Australia, where we lived for the past 4 years. We therefore had to keep converting our money from $ to £, and try to track spending at the same time!

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

The food and wine! So often you go to a wedding and everything is wonderful, but the food is ordinary. We were thrilled to hear so many complements about the food and wine pairings from our guests. The wine was chosen by Jonno’s parents, who own a fantastic wine business – https://www.experiencewine.co.uk/ . After joining us for our menu tasting, they handpicked the perfect wine to complement each dish.
We also chose to have a gin bar very last minute where we featured our favourite UK gin and favourite Australian gin – we loved this addition to our drink’s reception.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

It was a mixture. A former colleague of mine and friend in Australia is a fantastic designer and created the initial Save the Date and invitations, together with the Order of Service and Welcome Sign. Everything else was via Etsy small businesses.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

I found my wedding dress 18 months before our wedding, so a lot earlier than expected. This wasn’t planned and the dress wasn’t a style I’d been looking for. The dress was wonderful – I wish I could wear it again!

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

St Patrick by Pronovias. I bought it in Melbourne, Australia and brought it home with me.

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

Jewellery was all very special. Together with my beautiful engagement ring (and then wedding ring – my ‘something new’!), I wore my mother’s engagement ring – a diamond and two rubies (my ‘something old’). My earrings were my ‘something borrowed’, from one of my closest friends and bridesmaids, Emma. Then on my bouquet was another ring from my now sister-in-law, Laura – a ring that has been passed down through her family, which features blue stone that originated from Sri Lanka (which I spent a long time in some years ago) (my ‘something blue’).

And what did the groom wear?

Jonno wore a traditional morning suit (Charles Tyrwhitt and Yardsmen). The Best Man, Alex, and Ushers/ Groomsmen (Adam, Paddy, Russell & Tony) also wore Yardsmen Morning Suits. We also had two page boys, our nephews, Freddie and Harry.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Whistles Navy Dresses – we had three bridesmaids, Lauryn, Emma and Titch and a Maid of Honour, my sister, Katy. We also had two flower girls, our nieces, Rose and Pippa who wore Monsoon dresses.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Sarah Yeo did hair and make up – she was a recommendation from the venue – and did a wonderful job

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

Our beautiful friend Sian, who owns her own floristry business, created our flowers for us. I asked her to provide some details on her creation of my bouquet in particular:
We were heavily inspired by the Victorian language of flowers and are passionate about using this to create truly bespoke arrangements, personalised by the bride and groom themselves. Laura’s bouquet was full of meaning; both Laura and Jonno described the other to me and we found flowers that represented these descriptions. For Laura, who Jonno described as loyal and creative, we included scattering of daisies and warm pink hyacinths. For Jonno, who Laura described as loving, positive and joyful we added in fluffy peach roses and delphiniums. The mixture of colours was visually stunning, and the addition of the eucalyptus – to represent the couple’s time living in Australia – and bright yellow freesias – the flowers Laura’s father always bought for her late mother – ensured that the flowers were fully representative of the couple and of the merging of these two wonderful families.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

It’s a beautiful barn conversion, with a lot of detail, so we kept it quite minimal, with just fairy lights and up lighting, flowers in alcoves and on tables and an incredible gypsophila cloud that sat above the sweetie bar – almost wish I’d had more of these now!

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

I think our favourite homemade element was the place settings. Having lived away for four years, it was incredibly important to us to have personal details throughout our wedding. We knew how difficult it is to speak with every single person / give each person the attention they deserve for coming and being a part of our special day. We therefore decided to write personal notes to each of our guests – the place settings were simple craft mini envelopes, with names meticulously calligraphed in black ink by Sian (my florist of so many talents!). Inside, we had a simple couple of lines with a personal message and a message of thanks to each of our guests for being with us. Our guests seemed to be really touched by this.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

We didn’t want a typical cake that looks beautiful but sits there as an ornament. Taste was very important! We chose a semi-naked three-tiered cake, with each layer a different flavour – the flavours were: Lemon & Elderflower sponge with lemon and Elderflower buttercream, and, vanilla sponge with strawberry preserve and pink champagne buttercream. We served our cake as dessert with Vanilla ice cream and berries – there were no leftovers!

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

We had a string quartet in the church and for the drink’s reception, and a live folk / pop band in the evening.

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

For the wedding, plan well, but don’t plan every detail. You can’t control everything and need to be flexible and to not stress the small stuff. For marriage, always make time for fun!

What’s the best thing about being married?

Knowing that I’m going to spend every day of my life with my best friend.
