Blush and burgundy for Aimee & James’s autumnal Glemham Hall wedding with Ayshea Goldberg Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

This week is flying by! Can you believe there are only… 13 days left before Christmas?! Eeeek!! (We have a lovely schedule of features to share over Christmas by the way – I’m super excited to hit ‘publish’ again almost EVERY day through the Christmas break!) But first – a wonderfully elegant, graceful and enchanting wedding from Glemham Hall, with stunning bride Aimee and her handsome husband James! The happy pair were married in October, and describe their day as “Rustic, romantic, Autumnal, Scottish, elegant, with a grand staircase. Perfect.” That’s pretty much the loveliest wedding-in-a-nutshell description I’ve ever read! Images are by our wonderful friend Ayshea Goldberg Photography, and I hope you enjoy today’s real wedding as much as I do. Have a fabulous day!

“Our wedding had a rustic with blush, burgundy and ivory colour theme. The overall look was autumnal, but with a Scottish flair.

St Andrew’s church is a small intimate church which is already decorated with candles and so flowers, so we felt we didn’t need to add to this. We only asked Charlotte to decorate the arch of the lychgate on the way into the church grounds. Glemham Hall marquee already has lovely hanging chandeliers and fairy lights that decorate the ceiling, so just decorating the floor plan is what we decided. The Hall itself is already decorated with lots of antiques and plenty to look at, so for us wanting to have a more rustic feel, we felt that we didn’t need to add to the Hall apart from a couple of flower displays and then foliage form the last turn of the grand staircase.

Ayshea was recommended by Glemham Hall, and after viewing her portfolio on her website we fell in love with her romantic intimate style, and we knew she’d be perfect for our wedding.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

Ayshea did an amazing job, we feel that she really did capture our special day perfectly. And we’re so happy that we’ll forever have the pictures as fond memories that we can always look back on for many years to come. Throughout the day nothing was too much for Ayshea, including trudging out in the rain to get some pictures in the Hall’s gardens.

Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?

We couldn’t stop smiling! We thought the pictures were fantastic, and she captured both of us in our personal shots beautifully. And she captured some really lovely romantic natural portraits of us which all family members and friends have all loved.

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

A lot of our suppliers came recommended by the wedding coordinators at Glemham Hall, as they are suppliers that have worked there many times before. Also we used a few local companies like Sweeties and Rosie’s that are local companies, and for others we found by searching on the internet or on weddingwire.co.uk

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Make sure to shop around and don’t just buy the first thing that you see. Also where you can, do it yourself! For example as part of our table decorations we bought plain votive candle holders and decorated the tops with gold lace ourselves.

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

The flowers were a big part of our day, and our florist Charlotte Staff was very attentive to what we wanted and created the most amazing displays including the table decorations, bouquets and buttonholes which all our guests admired.
The marquee decorations were also a very important part, as we wanted to incorporate the colour scheme, Scottish theme and rustic feel so they all complemented each other.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

We used a mixture of a lot of places, Etsy, Hobbycraft, the Range, QuickCandles, and we matched and decorated our props ourselves where we could.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Yes! It took me a while to work out what style of dress I wanted, but knew as soon as I put my dress on it was the one.

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

I bought a dazzling pair of earrings from Jon Richard Bridal Jewellery from Debenhams with a matching bracelet. James’ Mum bought me a lovely hairpiece from Ivory and Co which I incorporated into my lovely up and curly hairstyle. The shoes were an ivory court shoe finished with a jewelled buckle from Rainbow Club.

And what did the groom wear?

James wore a full kilt attire from Geoffrey (Tailor) with Prince Charlie evening jacket, and the sporran worn by his father on his own wedding day.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

The bridesmaids wore a lovely multiway neckline occasion longline dress from Krisp in a wine colour, and I bought them each a earring and necklace set from Jon Richards Bridal Jewellery in Debenhams. And they wore a nude court shoe from Marks and Spencer.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Both hair and make up for all the bridal party was done by Rosie’s Beauticians from Norwich.

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

I really love roses so I asked our florist Charlotte to incorporate these in my displays. She picked some gorgeous blush westminister roses, followed by ivory and burgundy roses also, alongside different flowers and foliage to make the displays look rustic and match the autumn theme beautifully. Charlotte also incorporated thistle and heather into the personal flowers to create a Scottish feel to the day.

We had tall standing open gold stands, and then short gold chalice vases to create a different height effect for the tables in the marquee. We also had a long table arrangement on our top table again following along with our colour scheme of roses. In the hall we wanted to decorate the staircase which Charlotte did an amazing job with hanging foliage, she used trailing red amaranthus and ivory and burgundy roses within the foliage.

Also to add more flowers into the main hall we asked her to decorate a couple of gold hoops with all the flowers incorporated once again, the hoops were some of my favourites.

Following the colour scheme of the bridesmaids dresses, we had beautiful full bouquets, wrapped in twine and with a matching silk ribbon (from Little Acorn Silks) for myself which she matched with the bridesmaids dresses. All the bouquets were filled with warm autumn colours with added foliage, blue viburnham berries, thistle and heather to create a lovely vintage and Scottish feel. Each buttonhole included a roses and thistle wrapped in twine. The groomsmen had ivory roses whilst James stood out having a lovely burgundy rose including heather also in this. The corsages included ivory mini roses with heather all wrapped with twine.

Charlotte also did an amazing job decorating the lychgate arch with the flowers included in our other displays already with added vibrant shades of pink, inviting our guests warmly into the church grounds.

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

As part of our table decorations we bought plain votive candle holders and decorated the tops with gold lace ourselves. Also by cutting up pieces of artificial garlands to decorate things like picture frames and table plan, gave a different effect and finished them off lovely. For our confetti we needed to use bio-degradable petals, and James buys me roses regularly, so I kept hold of these and dried them myself and cut them up to make confetti.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

We chose a three-tiered chocolate cake with shimmering gold chocolate hoops from Marks and Spencer. Topped with a gold plated Mr & Mrs Jagger, which Charlotte then decorated wonderfully with the blush and burgundy roses with trailing foliage between the three hoops.
We chose this cake as we both love chocolate and the shimmering gold effect looked lovely with our colour scheme in the marquee.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

We used a DJ recommended by Glemham Hall, myBigFatWeddingDisco, they had been at the venue many times before and were ever so helpful with letting us use their equipment throughout the day for speeches and our own music during our wedding breakfast.

We had a bagpiper called Ray Russell to pipe myself from the car to the doors of the church, who then also played and led the guests from the church to the hall of the venue. He is a former piper at the Edinburgh Tattoo and it was amazing to have him playing to really tie in the Scottish side of the wedding.

Our organist Hannah Pemberton, who did a fantastic job at the church, also made her way to the hall and she played the grand piano for us. She started when we began to walk down the grand staircase to give us our magical entrance that were we after, and she continued to play for an hour to really set the ambiance in the hall.

And of course we had bell ringers at the church too.

One of our local suppliers Sweeties of Beccles supplied us with a rustic sweet cart with sweet-filled jars and love heart loaded with donuts for our guests to enjoy throughout the day and evening, also with a popcorn for the evening as well.

For our wedding favours we reached out to the Tartan Tablet Company on the Isle of Arran, and they created lovely tablet packages tied with tartan ribbon and twine.

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Work together to bring both of your ideas alive, as it’s both your special day and you both want to enjoy it the best you can.

What’s the best thing about being married?

Being able to spend every day with the person you love, and to build the life of your dreams together.

There are some beautiful details in this wedding and that pop of colour with the flowers is lovely! Beautiful photography too.
