Morning beautiful! Is it just me or is it chilly as anything today? I’m in jumpers – yep, plural!! But maybe it’s me? I hope summer comes back soon! … Enough of me though, as I have a FABULOUS wedding to share with you today. Welcome to the blog gorgeous pair Joe and Ruth, who celebrated at Kings Weston House in April. Their day is a wonderful combination of everything a wedding should be: elegance and grace, love and family, and pure, relaxed, happiness from beginning to end. We discovered Howell Jones Photography on Google – then realised Warren had done a wedding for friends of friends.

We knew we wanted to best capture as much of the day as possible and Warren gave us that confidence. He’s provided a timeline of the entire day at the venue – our families were telling him how much of a shift he had put in and to get home! He recognised who our close family were and managed to provide lots of pictures of all of our guests too. He’s given us priceless memories from angles we could never have imagined to see from our wedding day.

We waited until we had both arrived home from separate events to look at them together at about 1am! The pictures took us straight back to our wedding day and we couldn’t believe how many of our friends and family Warren had managed to capture.

We loved the decoration in the house and knew it didn’t need much dressing because it was so intricate in every rom. Our florist looked at the venue and suggested greens and candles to avoid overcrowding the ornate rooms.

 

Where did you find your suppliers?

We were really lucky to be able to have support from friends and family. A couple of other bits came from Not on the High Street and Etsy.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Agree what you are happy to spend money on so that you can work out where you can make savings.

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

Definitely our photographer, Warren.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

A friend helped us create our invitations by matching similar designs we saw on pintrest. Joe’s dad hand wrote our table plan and the luggage tags we used as place names which were attached by pegs to the wedding favours which were seeds for the guest’s gardens.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Yes! I’d seen something similar in a magazine and didn’t think I would find anything close to it.

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

Joe had given me a beautiful necklace as a present on the morning of the wedding. Earrings were from John Lewis and I wore my grandmothers wedding ring with a Russian wedding ring set that my parents had given me that I wear every day.

And what did the groom wear?

3 piece tweet tailored suit from Brown in Town – Bristol. He chose a navy blue which he wore with a white tailored shirt and burgundy wool tie also Brown in town.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Dresses from Sorella Vita provided by A Class Brides in Brislington, Bristol from Nicky Williams.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Make up – Jordan Smith www.jordansmithmakeup.co.uk who provided a trial for me and two bridesmaids. Jordan had looked after us for one of the bridesmaid’s weddings a couple of years ago and we loved how she tailored the make up to each individual.
Hair – Ella Harrison https://shotgunbarbers.co.uk another family friend who looked after me, the two bridesmaids and both mums on the morning. Ella invited us to the salon for a trial and coloured my hair!

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you?

Another family friend and fantastic florist who owns a boutique shop in Keynsham Ang Sherwood www.wild-aboutflowers.co.uk
Ang and her team welcomed us to her shop to discuss the venue and work out what would look best in the space. With such an ornate venue Ang suggested candle light and greenery to ensure the flowers complimented all the colours in the space. Ang found the perfect glass vases for the tables to hold a hand tied bouquet of flowers that mirrored the bouquet Ivy and the team had created at the shop. We collected three beautiful arrangements to leave in the hotel rooms of our families the night before the wedding which the team had ready and waiting for us the day before the wedding. The team arrived in the morning to dress the table plan easel, tables and some railings on the stair well. After securing the button holes for the bridal party and delivering our bouquets they quickly got changed to join the rest of the guests! Ange also provided some beautiful fresh stocks in a tall vase to add some perfume to the ceremony room.

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

Joe’s dad made us a batch of sloe gin to use on the prosecco table for guests to top up their drinks and experiment!

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

We chose a 5 tier naked victoria sponge cake from Waitrose. They delivered it on the morning of the wedding and it was really easy to assemble. Wild about Flowers provided some trimmings with fresh flowers to decorate the tiers.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

Joe created all the playlists for entire wedding. We had some key songs that we wanted to include so he built the rest of the music around these:
The Cure, Friday I’m in Love (walking back down the aisle to)
The Maccabees, Something Like Happiness (first dance)
The Social, a wedding covers band who my brother John plays for supplied the evening entertainment. Joe has filled in as their drummer when they’ve needed a stand in and they invited him up to play a few songs!
