Happy Monday everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend. Do keep an eye on our Instagram later today, as we’re going to investigate one of the Lake District’s most beautiful destination wedding venues – we’ll be at Storrs Hall from 5pm and I can’t wait to show you (virtually) around!! Before we go though, I have the most wonderful summery wedding to share with you. Esther and Sam’s day is so blissfully bright and happy, with stunning hanging foliage and a vibrant sunflower theme!  Let’s face it… all these autumn leaves are making it a tad chilly so let’s keep the summer vibe going for as long as we can on the blog! Images are by super talented English Wedding Directory member and Norfolk wedding photographer Duncan Kerridge Photography.

My bouquet had some sunflowers in which I loved! My husband keeps buying me sunflowers now…! The bouquets and button holes were all from our own gardens. The flowers in the church were bought by my mum then arranged by a family friend who lives in the village. My Granny dried rose petals from her garden for the confetti. They were all very ‘wild’ and colourful.

We mostly used plants to decorate our wedding marquee. We had a big plank over the top table which took a lot of time to style. My mum and Granny grew lots of succulents, ferns and mini daisies for the tables. My mum also collected some antique chairs, put turf on them then plants to put around the garden- they looked amazing! We used green candles to match the bridesmaid’s dresses from https://www.stevalcandlecompany.co.uk then we collected old candle sticks from charity shops & fairs. We had about 20 people running around the marquee on the days before helping out!

We made a ’10 year photos Instagram board’ to show our 10 year story. We made a pin board with photos that guests could comment on and leave heart stickers as ‘likes’. We also had a ‘Bike booth’ where guests took polaroid photos with fancy dress on while sitting on a tandem! They stuck these in a guestbook and left comments. We have loved looking back at this. We also made ‘wedding parking’ signs to put around the village and ‘To the loo’ signs for the house & garden. I also made a ‘menu’, framed it and nailed it to the willow tree so guests could have a little look at what was to come…

Wedding photographer’s website:

How did you choose your photographer?

He is a friend of my auntie (Esther Ling) who is also a photographer and we loved some of the wedding shots he had on his website.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

We were extremely pleased! We met up before and went over all the details and chose a location for the formal shots. On the day we barely noticed Duncan, he didn’t get in the way and got on really well with all the guests. We arranged 2 different times to sneak off and have some alone shots in the fields and with the sunset. This acted as a little escape for me and Sam in the craziness of the day!

Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?

Shortly after the wedding we received some preview shots which we could share with family and friends. We were so excited to relive the day and even see aspects that we missed! The main observation we made after going through our photos was Duncan’s incredible ability to capture moments. In particular, he captured the most amazing reactions to the speeches.

Wedding venue:

We got married in my parent’s back garden in Old Buckenham, Norfolk. The house is right next to the church so we could do the confetti tunnel from the church to the house! ‘Great Event Company’ did the marquees, lighting, chairs, tables etc.

Wedding month:

July

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?

One special day completely filled to the brim with love.

Your wedding style or theme:

Garden party// plants // greenery

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Recommendations and word of mouth

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Get as many people involved and make the most of their individual talents. For example, I knew my aunties were good at flower arranging so they did the button holes and bouquets from the garden!

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

Catering. So many people commented on how delicious the food was and how incredible the service was.
Dress. It is worth it to feel INCREDIBLE for one day you will remember forever.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

I found ‘Connie & Joan’ through Etsy then decided to buy a couple templates I could edit then print myself.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Yes. I had seen it on Pinterest before but wasn’t sure if it would suit me as much as the model in the photo. However as soon as I put it on I didn’t want to take it off. You just know it is the one when you want everyone to see you in it! Although a low, open backed dress does mean a lot of avoidance of strap tan lines!

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

Jewellery- I wore simply pearl earrings & a necklace which were an engagement gift from my parents
Shoes- Debenhams
Hair accessories- Myself and my bridesmaids had real flowers put in our hair

And what did the groom wear?

Navy tweed 3 pieces suits from Peter Posh near Birmingham

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Dresses from Coast, earrings from Jigsaw and they chose their own shoes!

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

I had a tutorial at a Bobbi Brown counter in Jarrolds, Norwich and bought all the products. This meant I could re-create the look again and again after the wedding. Favourite product is the LONG-WEAR CREAM SHADOW STICK in golden brown.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

My friend’s mum made it. It was 3 tiers, one fruit, one plain sponge and one chocolate orange with a plain white icing and little pearls on it. I wanted something very simple so we could put flowers around the bottom.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

We had Jesse Baines as our DJ. He did the music at my brother’s wedding and the dance floor was constantly packed so we had to have him! We had warm homemade sausage rolls and port come out around 10pm for those who were peckish and it went down a treat. We gave him 20 songs and mixed them into an amazing set from 9pm- 1am.

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Enjoy the sometimes stressful planning process. You have to spend a lot of evenings together in the months before and you have to keep reminding yourself that it is all just for fun! Keep both families in the loop as much as possible, they just want to get excited with you.

What’s the best thing about being married?

Supporting each other after a long day at work and the feeling that you are part of a team no matter what.
