Jade and Nigel’s heartfelt wedding at Priston Mill, with Martin Dabek Photography

Can you imagine an outside wedding at a working watermill? It sounds blissful… and for Nigel & Jade it really was a dream day. I love the glamour and elegance of their day at Priston Mill, a beautiful venue just outside Bath and Bristol with two gorgeous locations for your wedding and reception – the the barn and watermill are both glorious – and I’m thrilled to say our friend and sponsor Bristol wedding photographer Martin Dabek comes very highly recommended for both, as a regular Priston Mill wedding photographer! Our bride and groom are gorgeous; their day is super elegant with sparkle, their first dance is awesome and you’ll LOVE the last photo in the set…

We had seen his work after our friends had him for their wedding. We did look around and spoke to other photographers, but loved Martin’s work the most so decided he was the one we wanted to capture our big day.

Martin photographed our outdoor wedding in late August last year. From the moment we first met with him to the moment he handed over our album everything was faultless. He was recommended to us by some friends whose weddings he had already photographed. After doing our wedding we have recommended to some other friends who have booked him for their weddings. If you want minimal fuss, professionalism and great pictures then Martin is your man. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We first saw a video montage and we felt full of happiness, love and emotion. I think I did even have a little cry. I rang my best friend after sending her the link and she also said she cried.

Wedding venue:

Priston Water Mill and Tythe Barn

Wedding month:

August

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?

Classic, glamorous, elegant, fun, and full of love

Your wedding style or theme:

Elegant glamour

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Most of our suppliers were through recommendations and the rest were from reserarching on the internet looking at their work.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Have your wedding on a weekday, you can have everything you want for a much better price. If you send your guests a save the date in plenty of time I’m sure they will be there. Also when it comes to making your own crafts, invites etc make sure you shop around on the internet as high street stores really can rack up the pounds.

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

We were undecided about doing flowers on the pagoda and we were looking for a cheaper option but we are so glad we went for it as it looked so beautiful and nothing could have beaten that. Also having the string quartet for the ceromony made the day feel even more special, especially when I heard Pachelbels cannon in D.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

The save the dates were made online (magnets), and my friend who is a graphic designer Ellie Trerise made our invites to suit the wedding.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

I absolutely did, I did cry, and I have never felt more beautiful than my wedding day. I loved all the sparkle on the top and I thought the satin was so glamorous with the buttons all the way down the back was very elegant.

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Mori Lee from White Lace and Promises Bridal Boutique in Weston Super Mare.

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

Earings from Next as I wanted to wear them again
Shoes from Marks and Spencer’s
Bracelet from Nigel on my 21st birthday
Necklace was a present from Nigel the morning of the wedding from Swarovski

And what did the groom wear?

He wore a steel blue 3 piece suit with ivory waistcoat and dusky pink cravat.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Elegant dresses from ASOS, 2 in a nude colour and 2 in mauve.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Hired professionals
My make up was Elle Hitchins
My hair was Able Mabel

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

Bramblewood flowers. They were amazing, beautiful caila Lily’s, and roses. I had an amazing tear drop bouquet and the bridesmaid with a single bouquet. They matched the bridesmaids dresses. We also had caila Lily’s on the end of the isles and the jewel in the crown was the flowers decorating the arch. It was perfect. Claire did an amazing job.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

Not really, the buildings were beautiful as they were. An outside wedding at a working watermill all we added were flowers and chair beads, I also had a vintage dressing table that I decorated with a mirror, decanters and our guestbook so it had that old Hollywood glam feel to it.
The barn we decorated with table flowers, candles, fairy lights and some childhood photos.

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

My bridesmaids and I made salt dough heart placenames and they were wedding favours. We also made all the chair beads for the ceromony and wedding reception. We made confetti cups, also organised a small quiz for each table to see how well they knew us, the men had scratch cards and women mints for them as extra favours. We also made our own table flower decorations too. I loved making it all and also gave me quality time with my bridesmaids which was lovely.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

Well we love Bristol and especially the Clifton suspension bridge, so we decided we wanted 2×3 tier cakes that held a model of the Clifton suspension bridge. We kept the colours of the theme and Nigel’s mum made the sponge cakes and her cousin made the model, he even did a model boat as an extra surprise. We only saw it all the night before and were blown away by how amazing it all was. Angela and Rob did an amazing job.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

I had booked Bravo wedding singing waiters which was such a great surprise and everyone loved it. We would definitely recommend them as after the main course everyone starts to relax and get into a food coma so this livened everyone up and the atmospheare was brilliant.
We also booked Halflight as our band for evening. They were excellent and would highly recommend them to anyone.

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Relax and enjoy the planning as it only happens once, we loved every minute and it brought us closer to our family and friends and I realise that that’s the most important thing, to celebrate and be with the people you love.

What’s the best thing about being married?

Knowing that whatever life throws at us we will be there for each other no matter what, and we can look at our wedding day as a truly beautiful and magical day.
