Today’s blog feature is brought to you by fate. You know sometimes life falls into place in such an incredible way? Everything comes together and something beautiful happens…
The dresses are just divine – they’re by lovely Phiney from Poppy Perspective. Phiney designs bespoke wedding dresses and we’re incredibly excited for the launch of her first collection in 2019. The images are by fabulously talented Sheradon Dublin Photography, based in Kent and London. He’s pretty damn awesome.
None of these images would have existed if not for a magical twist of fate and a healthy dose of spontaneity from Sheradon and Phiney. The venue became free at the very last minute (and just days before it was due to be sold); Instagram and local connections brought together a brilliant group of creatives, and the results are just breathtaking…
About Poppy Perspective
“Having worked in the fashion and wedding industries for the past 12 years Poppy Perspective seemed like a natural progression for me. I started designing wedding dresses after a friend came to me for help after an unsuccessful dress hunt and I have never looked back. Making a bride feel like a million dollars on her big day is the most rewarding feeling in the world.
I design dresses for brides looking for something non-traditional, relaxed and wearable. My dresses have a boho/vintage feel to them and I also love working with vintage fabrics and trimmings where possible, often building a design around special pieces I have found.
At the moment I offer a bespoke service, meaning every dress is a one off and made especially for each bride. It’s a process I really enjoy as every bride gets to be involved in the design of her dress and ends up with something very special and totally unique to her.
Having recently moved from London to Kent I was keen to meet some local suppliers and plan a shoot. I actually met everyone involved through Instagram and we planned it all pretty much in a day! It was so much fun on location and I absolutely love the images we created.
I am very excited to be starting work on the first Poppy Perspective collection this year, which will be available in 2019.”
The story behind the shoot – by Sheradon Dublin Photography
I was originally booked by a property developers firm to photograph the interiors of a converted building just before Christmas 2017. I’m sure it was a church going by the shape of the building and size of the windows. While working room to room, I noticed the beautiful soft light that flooded the top floor through the giant windows, the type that would be perfect for shooting portraits and bridal. So I contacted the developers to ask about shooting a personal project there.
Unfortunately, with the festive period approaching and the new owners taking over any day now, the property was out of bounds and not available to shoot in. Slightly disheartened I put the idea to one side and forgot about it. Sometime over the Christmas period, I started thinking about that empty property and decided to email the property developers. As I saw it, I had nothing to lose plus I wasn’t expecting an answer back until well into the new year.
On the 4th of January, I received an email out of the blue from the developers stating there was a delay with the legal paperwork, so the property was still legally theirs for the next 3 days, so if I could pull off a shoot in that small time frame, I had their permission. After that the new owners will be taking ownership and moving in, the building would then be off limits. I broke out into a cold sweat and started to go through the list of ideas and designers collections that I could shoot there with such short notice.
After a brew and a few biscuits calm my nerves, I was scrolling through my insta feed and a photo from Poppy Perspective popped up, so I sent Phiney a direct message about the space and what I had planned… She responded within 5 minutes and from there, we started planning. After several emails bouncing back and forth that afternoon about the dresses to be featured, I was also emailed 2 local models I knew that would be perfect for a shoot like this, Ellis & Laura.
With the collection sorted, the location confirmed, and models booked in such a short space of time, I totally overlooked the hair & makeup, luckily Phiney had 2 super talented recommendations, Karlie and Emilie. We now had a full team, the only thing left to do was pick up the keys…
