I love Georgia and Ryan’s wedding – it’s beautiful and as SO glamorous! Carlton Towers is a fabulous venue with a wonderful atmosphere – our gorgeous couple had their best day ever surrounded by happy family and friends, and styled their day with wonderful handmade touches from Etsy.
The ceremony was at St. Mary’s Church in Whitkirk, and their photos are by lovely Yorkshire wedding photographer Laura Calderwood, who gets a glowing review from Georgia (and happy tears!)
Wedding photographer’s website:
We were in Australia travelling at the time of picking our photographer so had emailed a few companies and one recommended Laura. Laura suggested a Skype call to have a little chat and we knew straight away she was right for us and the style of our wedding.
From the Skype call, the pre wedding shoot to the day… nothing was too much trouble for Laura. She made us both feel very relaxed and it shows in our photos. Laura managed to capture all the emotions and fun of the day whilst also getting the few posey shots inbetween!
We came home to a cute package of a selection of photos & our photos on USB. I (Georgia) cried when I saw them (happy tears) … so I think that speaks for how we felt!
Working alongside Laura was Ian Wallace Photography.
We knew we wanted somewhere grand and fell in love with Carlton Towers as soon as we drove into the winding driveway & saw the huge building in front of us! We could just imagine our day there with all our family & friends… it was only the 3rd venue we went to see but after that we didn’t need to see any more!
I knew which wedding dress style I wanted but still had to try every other style to rule them out, but once I tried ‘the one’ there was no comparison! My dress designer was Nicole Spose, I got it from Chloe Jane bridal in Howden. Chloe only opened the boutique 7 weeks before I went for my first appointment and she was amazing from start to finish! I wore simple studs in my ears but I had a lace hairpiece from Etsy which I absolutely loved! Ryan wore a black velvet tuxedo jacket from Reiss so he looked a bit different from the groomsmen in their traditional tuxedos!
Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?

What’s your top tip for saving money?
We had our favours hand made by a family friend and found our invitations & seating plan etc on Etsy… We loved this for all the handmade bits and they are usually small business too which we loved!
… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
The venue, photographer & flowers… they make your day really!
Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?
Etsy – I loved the handmade look but just didn’t have the time!!
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
My girls wore multiway maxi dresses in a deep burgundy… I thought these would work best as they are all different body shapes so these worked perfect.
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
A friend I used to work with did my hair and two of my bridesmaids a lady called Danielle did the other three bridesmaids. I had a traditional updo with a lace hair slide. The bridesmaids all had a soft curly side bun! The girls Megan & Jale from Studio sister in Leeds did our make up for the day, they made us all look amazing & it stayed in place all day.. couldn’t recommend them enough!
Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)
Helen from Love-day floral design did all of our flowers. I wanted simple blush, cream with a pop of deep burgundy in my bouquet to tie in with the girls dresses but also wanted greenery to make them look less ‘set’ – they were perfect.
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
The venue is very grand and the wedding breakfast room at Carlton Towers is called the picture room so the walls are covered with large antique photos so not much dressing was needed! We had a beautiful top table runner and each table had a flower ring around the candelabras. We didn’t have the chairs decorated as they were lovely as they were, just used socks to cover the seats and make them look fresh. Each table had gold frames with numbers on and our table plan was on a large gold ornate frame.
Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?
Our favours were white chocolate salted fudge… we packaged them into jars ourself and finished them with twine & a thank you label!
The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
We decided on a semi naked cake as neither of us are really keen on thick icing. We chose a 5 tier chocolate orange, Victoria sponge & lemon cake with buttercream frosting… it was finished with fresh flowers. It looked and tasted amazing – We loved our cake!
Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?
For our reception drinks we had the duo Mali & me singing & playing the piano, they were amazing for background music and played a mixture of current and older songs – would highly recommend! We had a DJ Alex Simmons for the evening who played a good mix of all songs that got everyone dancing! My brother plays the guitar and sings and he surprised us later in the evening with a song he wrote for us both, it went down a treat and there wasn’t a dry eye in the building!
Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:
Stay calm, as long as you know you’re both going to turn up… what’s the worst that could happen! Enjoy every minute, it goes too fast!
What’s the best thing about being married?
Not much has really changed as we already spent every day together but it is lovely to have the same name that we will share as a family one day… very soon (baby smith due August 2018!)
