Andy and Jade’s traditional English wedding at Headlam Hall, with Stan Seaton Photography

Show me a bouquet with hydrangeas and you have my heart – they’re the loveliest blooms and so very perfect for an English summer wedding! Jade’s flowers are wonderful, and the images of the day are simply divine – Andy and Jade make the loveliest couple, and Headlam Hall is the perfect romantic venue for timeless wedding celebrations.

Images are by English Wedding Directory member Stan Seaton Photography, who told us a little more about Jade and Andy’s wedding.

The ceremony took place in the Yorkshire market town of Thirsk in an almost Cathedral-like church, followed by a reception at the beautuful Headlam Hall, which is an absolute hidden gem of a English country venue.

Tucked away in the Durham Dales, Headlam Hall is a 17th century country retreat set within wonderful walled gardens and space for up to 120 guests for a reception in the beautiful Coach House Suite.

Andy and Jade had always known that they were going to get married at some point, but when Andy’s sister announced she was making a trip over from Australia with her husband and Andy’s very cute nephew, they decided to kick start their plans and organise their wedding in a much shorter space of time then they had expected!

Andy is a musician and has his own wedding band so he knew quite a lot about the industry and was very specific about what he wanted for Jade and his day. Andy was the power house behind the wedding, but Jade who was such an adorable laid back bride made their beautiful wedding cake herself!

Although photography was one of the most important things to us on our wedding day, picking our photographer was surprisingly one of the easiest decisions we had to make. Stan and Jane were the very first people we met at our first wedding fair, as it was such a big thing for us we did look around at other people’s work before committing….but absolutely no one compared.

Stan and Jane from Stan Seaton Photography were fantastic from start to finish. From our initial meeting right through to our big day when they worked seamlessly together to capture the most magical moments of our day. If we had to plan it all again they would be first on our list!

We knew Stan and Jane’s work was amazing, but we were still blown away by our pictures. They captured every moment perfectly, we genuinely couldn’t have wished for more.

Wedding venue:
Headlam Hall

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?
Best day of our lives shared with family & friends!

Your wedding style or theme:
We didn’t have a style or theme as such, we just wanted a classic, timeless feel to the day.

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)
Mainly wedding fayres, especially the ones held at our venue. We knew then they were approved suppliers and had also worked at the venue before.

What’s your top tip for saving money?
Everyone has different priorities, pick those must haves first and the budget you have in mind for them, then compromise on things that are less important to you!

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
The Photographer and Videographer. Once the day has been and gone they will be your go to things to look back on and re live your day. We knew from the very beginning that photography was very important to us but the videographer was a last minute decision 6 weeks before the wedding. Dan from We Were Here was recommended by our photographers and captured our day so perfectly. We are so pleased we took the plunge to add it to our budget last minute.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

Half and half, we got professional help where needed but we did make some items ourselves. This wasn’t just about saving money as it was very time consuming. It was more about making the day more personal to us by doing some finishing touches ourselves.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

My Maid of Honour had asked me to try it on, so I did for her. It was the second dress I tried on and I just knew it was the one. Because I hadn’t tried many on I did carry on looking just to be sure, but nothing made me feel the same way!

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
Ronald Joyce from Butterflies Bridal in Stockton

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!
I bought my shoes and a small clutch bag from Dune which matched my dress perfectly. My veil was also from Butterflies Bridal and jewellery I kept very simple and wore a diamond ring which was given to me by my late Grandma.

And what did the groom wear?
We hired the Groom & Groomsmen suits from Affleck and Moffat. He wanted to wear tails rather than a normal suit as its one of the only times you can! He also had engraved cufflinks made with our names and wedding date on.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
My Maid of Honour and Flower girls all wore dresses from Monsoon.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
We hired in a hairdresser and make up artists for the day.

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)
Anna Hunton did our flowers who was just amazing. Even though we don’t know too much about flowers, so it was hard to explain what we wanted… she just got it. We had so many compliments on how beautiful they were.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
Headlam Hall was recently refurbished and we absolutely loved the decor. it was nice and neutral so was so easy to decorate as it just needed our own personal touches adding, nothing more.

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

We did our own Sweet Buffet and Cookie Bar which went down a treat, we made little baskets for the ladies and gents toilets with anything they might need to freshen up throughout the day and we also bought lots of props and made a little selfie station. We had spent quite a lot on entertainment so we felt doing a few little bits ourselves would give us extra at a fraction of the cost.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
I made our wedding cake, Andy was chief washer upper. Maybe it was a bit much to take on two days before you get married, but we wouldn’t have had it any other way. We chose a simple 4 tier semi naked cake in different flavours decorated with fresh flowers.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?
We had a few little surprises along the day, We had a singer and percussionist playing as people had their welcome drinks, an ice-cream cart, (luckily the sun was shining) during the meals we had Paul Lytton the magician going around who was just fantastic (lots of fab comments on him). And we also had a band playing on the evening.

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Try not to get stressed or worried about the day and everything going perfectly, if it doesn’t I promise that you won’t even notice. Just enjoy it as it will be over in a flash!
