Sam and Martin’s magical fairytale wedding at Lainston House, with Amanda Karen Photography
I have been saving up this beautiful wedding for so long! It reminds me that spring is just around the corner: the flowers are beautiful, everything is so wonderfully feminine and romantic and seeing the happiness of stunning bride Sam and her handsome groom Martin just has me smiling right back at the screen! This is pure, unadulterated fairytale – the theme will very soon become evident as you scroll through all the super pretty “Happily Ever Afters” – and there’s a healthy sprinkling of glitter and Disney magic too!
Wedding photographer’s website:
I love my photography and I had a very specific idea in mind. I travelled from Leeds to London for the National Wedding Show where I met with Amanda and Hutch. I was immediately put at ease and just fell in love with their style and the beautiful images they had taken. I knew straight away that I wanted them to be the photographers at my wedding.
Amanda and Hutch were amazing! Like I said above, I have a real eye for detail and everything was captured perfectly! My partner Martin isn’t as keen, therefore I thought this could be a challenge on the day to keep his interest, but Amanda was fantastic and Martin was even putting in picture requests by the end of the evening.
I was sat at work checking my emails constantly as I knew any day now the wedding photos would be coming through. They arrived a day early and I spent the next few hours looking through all of the pictures and reliving our beautiful wedding day. It honestly was the best day of our lives and the pictures captured everything!

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?
The most beautiful and magical fairytale wedding
Your wedding style or theme:
Fairytale, once upon a time, romantic and beautiful
Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)
Blogs, magazines, events, recommendations, etc.
What’s your top tip for saving money?
Negotiate! We worked towards a budget and interestingly, there were very few things that we had to leave off the list as a lot of suppliers want to work with you, however try not to get stressed and just keep looking! If a supplier is being difficult and doesn’t want to listen to your ideas and help with your budget then just don’t go with them! There are so many amazing wedding suppliers, don’t waste your time with the bad ones
… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
Photographer, flowers (this was a supplier nightmare!!) And all the little details, this for me made the day extra special.
Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?
Luckily! I have a very talented Father-in-law, therefore the stationery is all down to Graham! Thanks again Graham 🙂
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Oh yes! I spent the whole day with my mum, nan and mother-in-law going to different boutiques and try on hundreds of dresses that were lovely, but just not right. We were in the last shop of the day, after feeling that maybe today wasn’t the day, the seamstress said I could try on one last dress as we still had 10 minutes left of the appointment. I picked a pretty dress that was more of a copper colour as it was different, however as this one was being moved I saw a really sparkly skirt so I asked this one to be pulled out as well. I got the choice, sparkles or copper. Sparkles it was! I still can’t believe to this day that I found my princess dress in the last 10 minutes. I knew it was the one straight away!! My Nan put down a deposit then and there and that was my beautiful princess dress ticked off the list!

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!
I wanted to keep things simple. I wore a necklace Martin bought for me 7 years ago (my something old) and then I got talked into a tiara by my mum, which I am very pleased I went for! It really completed the fairytale princess look.
And what did the groom wear?
Full 3 piece Ted Baker suit with baby blue tie and pocket square.
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
Floor length navy dresses with a detailed lace back and sleeves
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
Professional! I am really not a makeup and hair girl, therefore this really was a job for a professional. Alex was a personal recommendation and she was amazing!
Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)
I mentioned above about suppliers being tricky. I was severely let down by the first lady I put a deposit down with.
Luckily, Helen Knight came to the rescue! Helen is a family friend that we have known for years (her family live next to my nan and grandad) and she was just amazing!! I really struggle to visualise things, so Helen sent me ideas, examples and spent quiye a bit of time with me talking trough this, colour schemes, arrangements, placements etc. She even spent a moring with me at Lainston House to go through everything. After a horrible first experience, Helen really was a breath of fresh air and I can’t thank her enough for helping us create our fairytale wedding.
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
The Dawley Barn at Lainston House is a gorgeous venue, however I really wanted to make it our own, so with the help of Helen, mentioned above, we added to the natural beauty of the venue and tried to give it that fairytale edge
Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?
A few home made elements! Mostly the gifts and small details. I am not overly crafty, therefore I need to give a big shout out to my beautiful bridesmaids Kaitlyn and Abbie for their help!
The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
This was a complete surprise! My sister Becky owns a cafe locally and I gave her complete autonomy on the cake. I couldn’t have asked for any more! The cake was beautiful, tasted amazing and certainly looked the part with the gold leaf frosting and happily ever after topper
Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?
I would highly recommend both of my evening suppliers!!
Dj – Colin & Denise Rouse, Eclipse Mobile Disco
Photobooth & Love letters – Russ & Anita Snap Attax
