New sponsor welcome! This is Reportage
I have a question for you – do think for a second about this! When you’re scrolling through your favourite wedding blogs and magazines, do you ever stop and smile at an image which makes you laugh? Or see a wedding photo which brings a tear to your eye? Or are the photos you remember seeing on wedding blogs pretty much all about the ideas, styling and the look of weddings? The thing is, I suspect the wedding media are guilty of sharing 90% styling ideas and 10% heartwarming, emotional moments. Which is a shame, because when it comes to your own wedding, the photos should be all about those moments, right? Meet our newest blog sponsor This is Reportage, who are going to show us all what’s important in the long run…
This is Reportage (www.thisisreportage.com) is unique in that it is a directory of wedding photographers specifically – and exclusively – focusing (excuse the camera pun!) on the real moment capturing of weddings; the extreme skill and artistry in documentary wedding photography.
I am a wedding photographer myself (www.alanlawphotography.co.uk) and I was feeling a bit disillusioned with the number of websites and awards that simply show portrait upon portrait upon portrait; of pretty people in fields, or on top of mountains. This is all well and good, but I really wanted a place where the skill of capturing real moments was celebrated – that special look between a bride and her Dad as they’re walking down the aisle; the groom’s nervous glance at the ceiling; the flower girl picking her nose…! – and where brides and grooms who want the very best in reportage wedding photography can find those talented people.
It seems there is a real appetite within the industry to show how important this is, too, as in just over two weeks we already have over 150 photographers signed up to the site, including over 130 from the UK, and photographers from places such as Australia, Ireland, Portugal, Canada, Poland, USA and Germany. These are all excellent photographers (you can see the UK ones here, for example: https://thisisreportage.com/search/?search=&country=United%20Kingdom®ion=all) and it’s so exciting – and meaningful – to see them showing the very best in moment-capturing to the world on there.
As well as brides and grooms being able to search within our directory by area of their wedding, we will soon have the first of our Reportage Awards (for great individual captures) and – uniquely – our Reportage Story Awards (for series of images from a single wedding) – as we want to celebrate the skill of storytelling; creating a narrative, and consistently capturing lots of moments to an extremely high standard of creativity and artistry.
