Thomas and Petra’s tiny, romantic and fun beach wedding in Jersey, with Dasa Wharton Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

I’ve always said a wedding doesn’t have to be anything more than the two of you saying ‘I do’. Today’s feature celebrates the most romantic of weddings with Petra and Thomas on a quiet Jersey beach. I adore everything about their day: they’re both stunning; the bouquet is gorgeous – and our bride and groom just keep smiling the whole day long. Oh, and then they run into the sea together… and it just looks perfect!

Thomas and Petra hired lovely Sandy from Tern Events to help plan and style their day. Sandy was a huge help, sourcing suppliers she knows and trusts to create a perfectly memorable occasion for the bride and groom. Petra’s bouquet is divine – Clara from Wilde Thyme mixed soft, pretty colours and flowers which were mainly home grown on Jersey.

Sandy even arranged for Emma from Quints of Jersey to make up a lovely booklet and menu as a keepsake of the day – as it’s not always easy finding the right stationery for just the two of you to celebrate with!

We found Dasa Wharton by recommendation from our wedding planner. Before we decided that Dasa would be our photographer we had a lovely chat with her on skype. She was as excited as we were about our wedding, and so it was easy to say that it is going to be her as our photographer.

Dasa was perfect from the very beginning. She made us feel so comfortable as if there was no camera. She always stayed in the sidelines and made us move and feel as if it was just the two of us. Dasa is so funny with her ideas, even if she has to lay down on the floor for the best shot she doesn’t mind. Dasa was more like a good friend around us than just being our photographer. We loved spending our special day with her!

The day after the wedding Dasa showed us some photos as a slide show on her computer with lovely background music… it was a very intimate moment for the two of us. We could hardly speak and just enjoyed the potos… we absolutely loved them and were so happy we were close to tears!

Wedding venue:

Le Don Hilton, St Ouen, Jersey, Channel Islands

Wedding month:

July

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?

Just us.

Your wedding style or theme:

vintage style at the beach

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Most of them were recommendations by the wedding planner: stationery, furniture, photographer… Other suppliers we found by searching in the internet.
We couldn’t see the suppliers in person before the wedding as we arranged everything from Germany. So we were lucky that our wedding planner Sandy organised all our ideas and suggestions and came up with a perfect arrangement.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

As it was just the two of us we wanted that special day to be as perfect as it could be…

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

hard to say. From the first day we decided to get married without any family and friends we also decided that the wedding will be just the way we want it to be… it wasn’t about the money.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Oh YES!!! so much!! Right away at the first fitting in the first boutique… didn’t expect to find the dress right away. It couldn’t be more perfect!!

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Rembo Styling
www.weiss-zu-schwarz.de/brautkleider/
One of the first bridal boutiques in Germany that specialised on pure and simple wedding dresses

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

jewellery: a simple silver necklace with a white heart. A birthday present from Thomas a few weeks before.
shoes: Krüger Madl “creme dream” sneakers (https://www.krueger-dirndl.de/de/sneaker-cream-dream)

And what did the groom wear?

smart casual with trainers.
The grey trousers (Paul) looked elegant but also casual when trouser legs are pulled up while barefoot at the beach.
The dark-blue Jacket (Boss) was very elegant with a white shirt (eton) but without a tie and top buttons open

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

http://www.urbanrose.je/
Kiera did a trial first a few days befor the wedding and at the wedding day came in the morning and did a very natural style make-up and the hair

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

https://wildethyme.com/products/wildethyme-weddings-flowers-styling-gardenroses
Clara from wilde thyme just got the colour theme (soft lilac and vintage style) and no other description. She had free hands to arrange the flowers and we didn’t want to know how the bouquet or decoration will look like before the wedding. So we were excited about it… As we saw the flowers we were absolutely overwhelmed!! We have never seen such a wonderful arrangement of flowers! The bouquet was a piece of art!! Mostly flowers that grow on Jersey… >>So absolutely lovely!!

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

not much. The florist did all the decoration inside. The House itself didn’t need much of a dcoration. It speeks for itself.

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

had none

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

It was a 2-tier Wedding cake.
Only the top cake was eatable, the base was a dummy. as it was just us two who ate the cake.
White fondant cover, decorated with flowers, similar to those in the bouqet.
The bakery offered a lot of tastes and fillings. We decided to take lemon pound cake with strawberry-champagne filling.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

we had a wedding dance in the dunes close to the beach to our favorite song “flying without wings” from Westlife

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Don’t forget to plan the wedding for YOURSELF. Not for your guests alone!! It is your day!!!
