The Fine Cheese Co. – cheese wedding cake review!

Published by Claire Gould on

Did you see the genius that was Hannah and Ian‘s wedding cake table at the beginning of the month? They had three ‘cakes’ – beautifully displayed to fit the styling of their autumn wedding, but while the tiers were all there, these weren’t traditional wedding cakes by any means.

Some of us don’t like cake so much. Some of us would rather have a savoury snack than spend £300+ on a wedding cake. That’s fine… especially when, like Hannah and Ian, you can substitute pork pies (tiered – so they’re beautiful!) or a cheese selection. Yum, right?

A few weeks ago I had an email from the guys at The Fine Cheese Co. It’s been a couple of years since their last mention on the English Wedding Blog, and they offered to send me some cheese to sample and review for the blog. Who could possibly say no?!

I was genuinely interested to see how you post cheese; The Fine Cheese Co. offer a delivery service throughout the UK mainland, and use a timed courier for all their deliveries. It all comes packed in a polystyrene cool box with an ice pack – so my little treats arrived in perfect condition, even on a sunny day in August.

So you can try the cheeses before you order a full cheese wedding cake, you can get a sample pack via the website, and this is what was sent to me. It had a selection of 5 little cheeses (the five tiers of the Beatrice cheese wedding cake) to try – as well as a letter explaining how I should care for my cheese, with useful facts about trimming and when to get it out of the fridge!

Obviously we needed wine, so after a little trip out for some Pinot Grigio and crackers we tucked in. The cheeses – as you’d expect from cheese experts – were gorgeous. We had White Nancy, Jean Grogne, Cornish Yarg, Keen’s Cheddar and Colston Bassett Stilton – and loved them all. The beauty of this cheese wedding cake is that there’s something for everyone, from the flavour punch of the cheddar and stilton to soft cream cheese and the lovely goat’s cheese – so when it’s all cut for your evening reception guests can choose their favourites and dive in!

The Fine Cheese Co. have a great selection of cheese wedding cakes for you to choose from, and their online brochure includes gorgeous styled images as well as cracker selections to go with your cakes – they really have everything covered. You can also order glass separators to help tier your cake, and if yours includes Brie it will come with “a Brie support (who knew?!!) and clear instructions on how to set up the cake“. Genius!

The only thing I’m still wondering is why they’ve named their cheese wedding cakes. Ours was ‘Beatrice’. There’s also a ‘Molly’ and a ‘Hermione’…

For transparency, this is a sponsored post (for free cheese). But we genuinely loved it and were impressed with the service from The Fine Cheese Co. and are happy to recommend them based on our experience!

Wow, what amazing looking cheese wedding cakes! It’s also great to see one of my local cheeses get a mention (Baron Bigod). I’ve seen cheese wedding cakes from a few suppliers recently, but never seen them named in such a cute way.
