Have you thought about signage for your wedding day – those helpful little details showing your guests where everything is, when stuff will happen, even where they’re sitting? It’s often the little costs which add up on your day, and taking care of these yourselves can save money. Making them pretty is also a lot of fun if you’re a crafty person, and learning how to write beautiful modern lettering is a skill you’ll keep and use for life!
I’m holding two calligraphy workshops in May and June, both in Manchester’s uber cool Northern Quarter. There are still places available for both and I’d love to invite you along. They’re on Friday afternoons, starting at one o’clock and finishing around half past three. The price is £59 and every attendee gets to keep their calligraphy ‘kit’ to take home and play with.
I teach all the basics you’ll need for writing calligraphy for anything you’d like to at your wedding: how to form letters and words with a looping, flowing script full of the thick and thin contrasts which really make modern lettering beautiful. With a little practice at home you’ll be able to write your invitations, place names, escort cards, menus, table plan and any paper signage for your day.
We also look at brush lettering, which is fabulous for larger projects on your wedding day – any directional signs or real features can be written with brush lettering pens or paintbrushes: you just need to know how to make your letters look like real calligraphy… and once you understand how a calligraphy pen works, it’s easy to translate your fabulous new skills to brush calligraphy!
