Victoria and Howard’s elegant country wedding and rustic teepee reception, with Suzy Mitchell Photography

I adore this wedding. Bolton Abbey is amazing – what a superb location for gorgeous, memorable wedding photos, don’t you think?! Today’s gorgeous bride Vicky’s couture dress is stunning; I love Howard’s outfit, they just look perfect together. And the festoon lighting and sparklers… absolutely incredible. LOVE it all!!!

I chose my dress which was from Lyn Ashworth by Sarah Barrett as I loved her lace detail. I didn’t find a specific dress that had all the elements I wanted but the Lyn Ashworth collection gives you the option to pick one element from one dress and add it to another dress which was perfect. I put all my favorite elements together and made a bespoke dress that I absolutely loved and felt amazing in.

Our reception venue was tepees in the grounds of the bride’s parents house. We personally decorated the tepees with bunting and paper lanterns and also added fairy lighting and festoon lighting, disco ball, a rustic gift table, love sign and photograph wall of the hen and stag dos.

We wanted to add a few different personal touches such as a sparkler path where our guests lit sparklers around us outside the tepees before our first dance. We had a fire pit in the tepees so decided for our favors we would have marshmallows for our guests to toast. The favor tag read ‘Where family, friends and marshmallows all get toasted’. We also had a photograph wall with all the pictures taken from the hen and stag dos. We also had pictures of our family members which a sign saying ‘As some of our family are in heaven, there is a bit of heaven at our wedding. We also made instead of name cards for the tables we had individual pictures of each guest. My husband made the table plan, guest sign (instead of a guest book) and L O V E sign out of pallets and decorated with fairy lights to keep in with the rustic theme.

“This is a wedding which will stay with me for a long time, this was a couple who had such a strong bond with their friends and families; Vicky had so many girl friends that she ended up with with eight bridesmaids because she simply couldn’t choose any over the others. The bridal preparations that morning were so much fun, laughter and tears abounded, especially when Vicky watched the video that her bridesmaids had made for her featuring her hen night, their times together as friends and with a cameo performance from Howard.

“The venue for the wedding was a Papakata teepee on the land next door to Vicky’s parents’ home. There was a little gate going from the orchard into the field where the teepee had been set up. There was a really relaxed vibe to this wedding which was accentuated by having the Papakata teepee, it was quite rustic and fitted in well to the rural setting. A great venue/ location.”~ Suzy Mitchell Photography

How did you choose your photographer?

Suzy came high recommended, a few of our friends have used her in the past and said how amazing and friendly she is. We also wanted a local photographer who had experience at the ceremony venue. We had seen Suzy’ pictures and fell in love with them.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

We were over the moon with our pictures. We knew they would be amazing but they exceeded our expectations. We wanted very few formal photographs and asked Suzy to take more relaxed photos. We didn’t have to say anything else as we knew she knew exactly what she was doing and trusted her completely. The way she captured every special moment was amazing and the way she was more like another member of the wedding party and how she made us feel at ease all day was just brilliant. She really does have a special gift and she made our wedding incredible.

Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?

We were over the moon with our pictures. We knew they would be amazing but they exceeded our expectations. She captured every moment of our day and now we have so many incredible photographs to look back on and we really can’t thank her enough.

Wedding venue:

The ceremony was at The Priory at Bolton Abbey, Skipton. Reception was in the grounds of the Bride’s parents home in tepees.

Wedding month:

October

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?

Perfect
Unforgettable
Incredible
Overwhelming
Exciting… I could go on forever!

Your wedding style or theme:

An elegant service with a relaxed rustic reception.

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Mainly websites. Juste Nous Catering provided our food and were incredible. To fit with our theme we had meze and tapas food. The cake was made by one of the bride’s best friends Jessica Wyatt who owns Mama Dorren’s Cupcake Company in Harrogate. The evening food was provided by The Wood Fire Pizza Company who were fantastic. The tepees were provided by Papakata.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

We didn’t manage to save money although we don’t regret spending what we did.

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

My dress, photographer and personal touches.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

Nikki Ward – Knots and Kisses. I found her online and she was absolutely brilliant to deal with, she did all our invites, menus, table names, favor tags and other personal touches and was so patient with me and helped me make each item perfect and so in keeping with our theme.

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Lynn Ashworth at Ava Rose Hamilton in Silsden.

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

I didn’t have many accessories as they weren’t needed with my style of dress. I only had pearl drop earrings and open toe heels.

And what did the groom wear?

The groomsmen all wore navy blue three piece suits, the groom wore the same but with a different waistcoat which was tweed checked. All supplied by Harrogate Suit Hire.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Navy blue multi wear floor length dresses. I had 8 bridesmaids so it gave them all the option to wear the dress in different styles.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Hair was Jodie at Jefferson Buckley in Ilkley and Make up was Katy Louise from Mac Make up

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

I wanted simple flowers so chose just gypsophila for the bridesmaids bouquets and button holes and I had the same with added cream tiger lillys. Vanessa Wellock was our florist and was amazing. The center pieces and church flowers were the same theme.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

We wanted a simply three tier rustic cake which was made by one of the bride’s best friends Jessica Wyatt who owns Mama Doreen’s Cupcake Company in Harrogate. We chose different flavors for each tier such as salted caramel and chocolate.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

Our band were Vibe Town from Leeds and they were absolutely incredible and Dan was so helpful when planning the logistics.

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Brides, try not to stress so much about all the planning as everything comes together on the day and the elements you initially worry about aren’t even important on the day.The whole planning experience goes so quick and the big day arrives so quickly so just enjoy every moment of all the exciting organizing.

What’s the best thing about being married?

After taking no stop about how amazing our big day was, we would say the feeling of contentment, being a strong team and utter happiness is lovely with the excitement of the sharing our futures together.
