Happy Christmas!!! Our last wedding of the year… Louise & Anthony’s fabulous winter wedding, with Rachel Joyce Photography

Stunning winter wedding ideas with Rachel Joyce Photography (2)

Lovelies, I hope you’re ready for a truly amazing Christmas. This year has been wonderful for the English Wedding Blog – I’ve met and worked alongside some incredible people, and we’ve featured the most stunning weddings… you can still find them all by navigating the menu at the top of this page. So as we snuggle into our Christmas pyjamas, crack open a crate of mulled wine and sprinkle ourselves with glitter here at English Wedding Blog HQ, I wanted to leave you with one last wedding before the holidays begin… and it’s a stunning, gracefully festive, delicately sparkly celebration you will LOVE!! Louise looks incredible – the entire day just makes me smile, it’s so beautiful. Happy Christmas everyone!Claire

We went for an urban venue with Christmas and Winter being the main focus of the celebration, we used rustic logs, berries and winter roses throughout. We had hot chocolate, mulled wine, warm cookies, tartan blankets and a snow machine to complete the vision! I used a local florist for my flowers – we were a little limited on what was available on 29th Dec in between Christmas and New Year but I was thrilled, we went for deep reds, roses and berries.

How did you choose your photographer?

We booked our wedding with 4 months to plan it, photography was always something close to our hearts to get right and so I asked a few friends for recommendations. Rachel was suggested and I only had to take a quick look at her website to know she was exactly what we were after.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

Yes yes yes!!! A wedding day can be really stressful but Rachel is so calm to be around she’s brilliant, and she takes a pretty good photo too!! Once the day was over, knowing we had our photos to look forward to was such a treat, and they didn’t disappoint. We had a very urban celebration and Rachel captured this beautifully whilst also catching our winter/Christmas theme in between the chilly weather. She’s an absolute cracker!!

Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?

It was about 4 weeks after when we got the magic email through, we both waited until we were together to sit and absorb each photo, it was so lovely, very emotional and we were just so thrilled with everything Rachel had captured. Photos of us, our family and all our guests, many moments we missed on the day which were so lovely to experience, seeing so many people having fun and enjoying the day, all priceless.

Wedding venue:

Great John St Hotel, Manchester City Centre

Wedding month:

December

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?

Urban Winter Magic, celebrating a marriage and Christmas!

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

We used blogs and recommendations, in some instances with only 4 months to plan it we had some choices made for us based on availability but the process was still fun and we were pleased with everyone we used.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

With a time constraint on planning our wedding, I’m not sure we managed as much as we would have liked that could have saved us money! We did do some elements ourselves such as our Orders of Service and preparing the favours (lottery tickets) which doubled as name tags for place settings. Having a Mum that can make beautiful wedding cakes was also a bonus on the money saving front!

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

We were really unsure about having the wedding filmed but I’m so so happy we did, we didn’t have the budget and stretched ourselves but it was the one thing that when we asked people what they regretted about their day, not having it filmed kept coming up. Similar to the photography, having the film is a very precious memory that we can re-live over and over again, usually with tears on my part!

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

We used a small company called Tigerlily that we found on Notonthehighstreet.com

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Absolutely! Finding a wedding dress for me was difficult, I was 5 months post having my first baby and not in love with my body but the dress I chose was something I knew I had to have, and gave me a goal to lose the last bit of baby weight – it was easy to do because I loved it so much!

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

I was lucky enough to be bought a beautiful pair of Jimmy Choo’s from my best friends for the wedding!
I kept jewellery simple with some pearl earrings bought for me at Christmas from the hubby-to-be.

And what did the groom wear?

Anthony wore a tweed suit hired from Victor Valentine – his wedding party was 9 strong and we had everyone in a wool tweed suit, changing the waistcoats and ties/bow ties to coordinate across everyone.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

My girls were in a mixture of Coast navy skirts and sparkly tops and navy dresses from Debenhams. With the time to pull everything together we decided to go for high street which turned out really well, everyone looked great and felt great.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

I brought in the professionals to sort my hair and face out!

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

We were so lucky that our venue didn’t need lots of decoration as it was already dressed for Christmas. We went for a lot of candle light and moved our flowers from church to the venue.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

My mum made the cake, it was a simple lemon cake and chocolate cake (our favourites!), double stacked and dressed very simply with icing and wintery foliage.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

We had Sam Fitton a fantastic magician who entertained guests in between dinner and the evening element starting. We also had a snow machine on the terrace in the evening and a ceilidh dance instead of a band or disco which was brilliant, and sweaty!!!

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Embrace it all and love every second it all goes too fast from planning to the day itself. Invest in preserving your memories i.e. photographer and videographer.

What’s the best thing about being married?

I really love the closeness being married has brought, we’re really lucky to have each other!
