Kathryn & Daniel’s wedding is beautiful from beginning to end – I love the mirror and the lightness of the bridal prep photos – the portraits are amazing, the sunlight an absolute dream! And the details are really, really lovely – the flowers around the cake, the bouquet… just so pretty!
“We wanted our wedding to be simple and elegant. Flowers and sparkle were the big themes. Plenty of candlelight and romance! Think A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
I wanted a Midsummer Night’s Dream feel about our flowers. Roses were my main request, followed by Dendrobium orchids and hydrangea in colour tones from ivory through blush pink, coral, peach and deeper pinks, with a hint of lavender.
Our florists were again family friends and would be highly recommended, Samantha Artus at Copelands Flower Company did the most perfect job!
Kathryn and Daniel chose St Peters Church in Leckhampton, Cheltenham for their wedding ceremony, the same church Kathryn’s parents got married in over 30 years ago. Their wedding reception took place at Manor by the Lake also in Cheltenham. Carissa from Capture Every Moment told me the Manor is a stunning backdrop for photos, surrounded by beautiful grounds and full of character making the inside just as beautiful as the outside.

How did you choose your photographer?
We knew that after the wedding day all we would have would be our memories and our photographs. So we wanted to choose a photographer who would capture the big moments and also all of the smaller details. Initially we were driven by price and Paul and Carissa seemed very reasonable, but after meeting them and seeing their example photograph albums we knew they were the photographers for us! We didnt want heavily edited or photoshopped images and we also wanted to feel comfortable in their company. After having met with Paul and Carissa we knew we had made the right decision.
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
Paul and Carissa have done exactly what they promised, they captured every moment of what was an exceptional day. We have nearly 1000 beautiful images to choose from and have been totally overwhelmed. We have also had so many of our guests compliment us on how lovely and peronable they were. The photos of us both are wonderful and exactly what we had imagined, but the photographs of our guests are equally as stunning. We are over the moon.
Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?
We were nervous to see the photos, as I have said before, they are really the only lasting thing you have after the big day is all over. But when we saw our photo slideshow for the first time we were amazed! We have since watched them all again several times with family and friends and have enjoyed seeing and sharing them.
Our Wedding Ceremony was held at St Peters Church, Leckhampton, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and was also the venue of the Brides parents Wedding 38 years ago!
Our Wedding Reception was held at The Manor By The Lake, Hatherley, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?
Simply the happiest and most incredible day of our lives!
Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)
The majority of our suppliers were either friends or came highly recommended by family and friends.
During the initial planning stages I did buy lots of Bridal Magazines for inspiration and made a scrapbook full of things I liked!
What’s your top tip for saving money?
If you are lucky enough to have family and friends with talents, use them! The Brides Mother is a very talented cake maker and actually made our Wedding Cake, from baking to sugarcraft, start to finish, everything is hers.
If you have the crafty bug, try to make things yourself. But leave yourself plenty of time to do it because it’s a labour of love, not because you’re in a last minute rush! I (the Bride) made the Table Plan, Overnight Boxes for all of our Guests, our Wedding ‘Postbox’ etc
There is a considerable amount of money to be saved if you can either make things yourself or delegate tasks to family and friends.
Also try not to get swept up in the ‘Wedding Craziness’ and remember your budget. It is easy to get carried away, but remember those expensive things arent always important. Two people marrying in front of their family and friends is the most important bit of all.
… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
Flowers! We had a very clear idea that we wanted flowers and candlelight to be the biggest part of our Reception decor. We did spend more than we originally planned on the Flowers, but in our opinion it was worth every penny.
Also, finding a Venue that fits your budget is important, but when we found the Manor By The Lake it was more on the expensive side, however we knew it would give our guests the experience we wanted so we spent more and made some money back in other areas!
Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?
I (The Bride) have a degree in Design, so this has always been my thing! I had very clear ideas about what I wanted, so making a decision on style was easy.
However, I said before that if you have taleted friends around you, you must use them! And I am lucky enough to have a very talented family friend who kindly agreed to put my designs into reality and also organise all of the printing.
These are the elements of planning a Wedding that can be stressful, I found telling someone else my ideas and having them do all of the hard work was a real treat.
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
I fell in love with my Wedding Dress instantly! It’s true that when you put it on you really know it’s the one!
Initially, I thought I knew the sort of style I wanted. It HAD to be lace and it HAD to have a sleeve (a little Kate Middletonesque) but when I tried on those styles they really did nothing for me.
Then I found the one! So different from my initial ideas, but just so perfect!
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
The dress designer is Justin Alexander and the Bridal Boutique is Perfections Bridal Studio in Worcester.
Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!
I wore the ‘Samantha’ shoe from Rainbow Club at John Lewis. These are incredibly comfortable shoes for special occasions. I was able to wear them all day, no aching feet!
My hair piece and bracelet was from an independant boutique in Boston, USA – I discovered it whilst on holiday.
The other jewellery I wore belonged to my Godmother who passed away a number of years ago, more sentimental than anything else.
Finally, as you will see in a couple of the photographs, Daniel (the groom) gave me a small silver heart the night before our Wedding, with my Godmothers name ‘Auntie Suzie’ engraved onto it. This was tied to the underneath of my Bouquet on our Wedding Day, so she was there to celebrate with us all.
And what did the groom wear?
The Groom and his Groomsmen wore the Navy Morning Tailcoat/suit from Slaters Menswear in Chelteham.
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
My Maid of Honour (Rachel) and Bridesmaid (Laura) both wore Dessy Dresses in the colour ‘Apricot’ their accessories were all House of Fraser.
Lauras’ two Daughters (my Goddaughters) Lexie and Miley wore dresses from Monsoon and shoes from Debenhams.
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
My very good friend and Hairdresser Sarah Thompson kindly offered to do all Bridal Hair as our Wedding Gift! She owns her own business (Sarah’s Headshed – based in Cheltenham) and is incredibly taleted. I would recommend her to any Bride to be, she can be found on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/SarahsHeadshed/?fref=ts or Mobile: 07748 908921.
Sarah recommended my Bridal Make Up Artist – Katy Pheiffer – as they had worked together in the past. Katy’s website is http://www.bridalmakeupbykaty.co.uk/
Katy did make up for the whole Bridal Party and we all felt a million dollars!
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
Manor By The Lake was the perfect Venue for us. The Manor itself is stunning and needed very little additional decor. The only thing we added was an enormous flower arrangement above the fireplace!
Their seperate Ballroom, where they host Weddings over 40 people, has a very neutral decor and would lend itself easily to most themes. Everything you see in the photographs was added by us. Fairylights, Flowers, Candles etc
Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?
All of our Wedding Stationary was designed by myself and a friend, and then professionally printed.
The Postbox and Guest Book were made by myself, along with the personalised Ceramic Hearts which were given to each guest as a Favour (these also doubled as name place cards – saving some money!)
We made over night boxes for each of our guests, these contained things like plasters for aching feet, and paracetamol for aching heads. They went down a treat!
Our Wedding Cake was made by my very talented Mum, Glenda. And further Lemon drizzle cakes (these were in addition to the fruit cake) were made by a kind Aunt.
The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
We chose traditional fruit cake for our Wedding Cake. Then, behind the scenes we had additional Lemon Drizzle cakes made.(By an Aunt) So our Guests were given the choice between Fruit or Lemon.
Our Wedding Cake was made by the Brides very talented Mum, who has been making and decorating cakes for 30 years and who said this one would be her showstopper!
Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?
During our afternoon drinks reception we had a family friend play Piano for our guests. Music was a mixture of ‘Disney Classics’ and ‘Songs from the Musicals’ to keep things lighthearted.
Our Evening DJ was Dan from Euphoria Entertainment http://www.euphoriadisco.co.uk/ we would recommend him for any Wedding. The dancefloor was full all evening.
Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:
Make sure you take time out of what will be a very busy day, to spend time with each other. It sounds silly, but you will both be so busy with guests you will easily forgot that time is ticking by. Take 5 minutes, step outside or have a boogy. You wont regret it!
What’s the best thing about being married?
The best thing about our Wedding Day 9aside from actually getting married!) was having all of our Family and Friends around us, all together for one day. That was so special.
The best thing about being married for me, is the feeling of being settled and content.
We would both do it again tomorrow!
