If I could take a polaroid of every bouquet we feature on the English Wedding Blog, and paper my little office & studio space with all of them it would just be soooo beautiful. Sometimes a gorgeous wedding inspires you to dream crazy things… but that’s ok, and I know we’re going to inspire you with some lovely ideas today. The flowers are only the beginning of this stunning day…

We wanted a wedding with a hint of vintage and a spring country feel. Most suppliers were recommended by Coombe Trenchard (marquee company, caterers, mobile bar). The band we sourced from Alive Network and Emma @ Freckle Photography was found by some extensive internet searching as photography was extremely important for us to get right!
Rachel is really crafty so loved all of the opportunites to handmake items for the wedding and make it personal. The jam jar centre pieces were all handmade as was the tableplan, the basket for cards and presents (thanks to Rachel’s mum), the mini-egg favours and the invitations! The bunting in the coachhouse was beautifully handmade by James’ mum Jane and James’ dad also made wooden structure where we displayed pictures of me and James.

How did you choose your photographer?
We were looking for a relaxed style of wedding photography – someone to capture the unique, quirky moments of the day. The photographs were extremely important to us as we wanted the photos to retell the day, picking out all the little moments that you sometimes miss. We scoured the internet and found Emma and we could not have been happier with our choice!
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
Absolutely! From the first time we met Emma we knew she was the right choice. We had our engagement shoot in Anstey’s Cove in Torquay and she made us feel very relaxed in front of the camera, which is just what we needed. On the Wedding day itself, Emma was fantastic! She never got in the way, but seemed to be everywhere – capturing all the emotions of the day and more! She was so easy to be around and it felt like we had known her for years. We have had great feedback from our guests about how much they loved the photographer.
Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?
They were breathtaking! We were so anxious to receive them as we couldn’t wait to see all the moments that Emma captured that we had probably missed! James was working nights at the time the photos arrived and I had strict instructions to wait for him so that we could view the photos for the first time together! The wait was excrutiating! However, well worth it as I could not be happier with the photos. Emma is a very talented women.
Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?
Fun, relaxed, quirky, unforgetable!
What’s your top tip for saving money?
Speak to friends – you will be suprised at what hidden talents you may find they have! Having friends and family helping with the flowers, the cake, the bunting, the personalised touches etc really helps keep costs down.
… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
The big expenses for our wedding were the venue, the catering, the photography and the band. We would not change any of these as they were all outstanding and made our wedding day so special. Every element was perfect and we couldn’t have imagined anything being different.
Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?
Our wedding stationery was handmade – I’m glad we did make this ourselves, however the time it takes needs to be considered before you choose this option as it took a lot longer then we thought it would!
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Absolutely! When I first went into London Bride on the Walworth Road, I picked a few dresses from their collection that I thought I would like however, when I tried them on nothing stood out. Then the lady that was helping me said she had the perfect dress for me. I was dubious about this at first but when she returned with it and I tried it on…it was perfect!

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!
My shoes were Benjamin Adams – beautiful peep-toe ivory heels with diamante detail around the front. Love them!
My veil was purchased from London Bride and this was simple yet elegant with lace and diamante detail at 3 or 4 places along the rim.
And what did the groom wear?
James bought his blue tweed suit from Walker Slater’s and his brown shoes from Ted Baker.
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
My bridesmaids were wonderful! They all wore light sage green dresses with a ivory shawl and nude coloured shoes. They all looked stunning!
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
Rachel’s hair was done by Gina Reichert who was recommended to us by the venue. Make-up was done myself.
Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)
We wanted bright spring coloured flowers for our wedding. Rachel’s friend Amy Pope was in the throws of a floristry course and kindly offered to arrange the flowers for us. We sent her a picture of the type of ‘look’ we wanted and Amy sorted and sourced the rest of it from there! She did an amazing job and we couldn’t have been happier with the flowers.
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
The venue itself is beautiful so we didn’t have to do much to decorate the house. We attached some garland and fairy lights around the banister of where we said our vows and that was about it! Sarah, the owner of the venue, and her team did an amazing job of styling the coachhouse! It was perfect – romantic, cosy and just a turely wonderful space for our evening dancing. The grounds of Coombe Trenchard are breathtaking – a perfect backdrop for our photographs.
The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
We had sponge and red velvet cupcakes for our wedding cake. These were made by James’ sister Emma and looked and tasted amazing. We didn’t really want a conventional wedding cake and Rachel is not keen on fruit cake so cupcakes seemed like the perfect option!
Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?
Our band was amazing! We found ‘Breakthrough‘ on the Alive Network website and wow! They were outstanding. The guys were so friendly and even learned Rachel’s favourite song (A Town Called Malice) to perform on the night. Unbeknown to us beforehand, they initiated a sing off between the boys and girls and a dance off between the bride and groom and their respective bridal parties! We loved every minute of it. Thank you Josh Dean for capturing the magical moments on video!!! We would HIGHLY recommend Breakthrough without a doubt. Fun, talented musicians with an excellent varied setlist and a DJ set inbetween their performances.
Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:
Whilst planning the wedding, structure a day/weekend where you have no wedding talk as it can quite easily take over your life and become overwhelming.
The best piece of advice we were given on the wedding day was to make time for the two of you. It sounds crazy as the day is all about you two, but it is very easy to get swept up in the moment and not see each other properly until the day is over and the guests have departed. Even if you can only find a few precious minutes alone, they are well worth it!
What’s the best thing about being married?
Me and James had been together 10 years by the time we got married so we didn’t think things would feel any different after we tied the knot. In most ways they don’t but there is something special about being able to call each other husband and wife and I still get tingles in my tummy whenever James refers to me as his wife!
