I’m not sure what caught my eye and stole my heart first… the fabulous yellow accents, or Jen’s dream dress, or maybe the spirit of this beautiful barn wedding caught so wonderfully on camera. It matters little: whatever you love best, it’s pretty much guaranteed you’ll be blown over by today’s incredible wedding. Allow me to introduce stunning bride Jen and her gorgeous groom Chris!
Images are by lovely Murray Clarke Photography, whose website and social streams are here. Do check him out!
“I love working at Bury Court Barn as it’s so pretty with its stunning grounds and well kept gardens. The barn itself is very impressive with great light coming through the windows. It offers so many opportunities for photographers so I can’t wait to shoot there again soon. Jen and Chris are the friendliest people you could meet and an absolute joy to work with. I really enjoyed capturing their wedding as there was always so much energy in the room and it was clear that both they and their guests were having such a great time.” ~ Murray Clarke Photography
“Murray is clearly very talented and skilled at what he does. On our wedding day he was able to take wonderful, natural pictures while being totally non-intrusive. Murray captured the day beautifully, and we cannot recommend him highly enough!” ~ Jen & Chris
The flowers are a total highlight: “As our wedding day was midsummer, I wanted our wedding flowers to be bright and summery too. I chose yellow as a main colour theme, with peaches and creams to complement it. Melanie at Heavenly Scent was able to put together the most beautiful, rustic bouquets and floral decorations for our wedding and for our budget.”

Wedding photographer’s website:
How did you choose your photographer?
We googled young wedding photographers and came across Murray’s website. It looked really professional and he responded quickly to our questions, so we arranged a meeting.
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
Murray photographed our wedding in June 2015, and the pictures are absolutely amazing! From our initial meeting in 2014, our engagement shoot, and on our wedding day itself, Murray was very professional, friendly and really understanding. We had our engagement shoot in Richmond Park, and even though we were feeling nervous, Murray really put us at ease and helped us to feel comfortable in front of the camera. He put so much effort in to capturing the light to achieve the best photographs, even if that meant virtually standing in a stream!
Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?
Murray emailed us our wedding photographs and we were so happy with them! I couldn’t wait to show all the pictures to our friends and family. I loved taking time to look through them all to choose our favourites for our wedding album that Murray put together for us.
Our ceremony was held at Farnham Methodist Church, and the reception at The Barn at Bury Court, Surrey.
Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?
Our wedding day was wonderful, joyful and completely overwhelming.
Your wedding style or theme:
Rustic and simple, but elegant.
Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)
We found most of our suppliers online, but we also found local suppliers (e.g. florist, hair, make up artist) through the wedding extravaganza held at our venue at the Barn at Bury Court.
What’s your top tip for saving money?
I’d say try to prioritise and spend money on the things that are really important to you, but save on other things that aren’t so important. Different things are more important and more of a priority to different couples.
… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
We spent money on getting the venue we wanted which had the most fantastic catering team in Jacaranda. We also splashed out on getting a brilliant live soul band in the evening called the Soultanas! We were also really happy to have Murray Clarke as our photographer and so pleased we got our wedding album through him as well.
Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?
We made our own wedding stationery. We decided that although I’d have loved to have bought some beautiful looking stationery, it would be much cheaper to make our own, and thankfully my mum is artistic and was able to help!
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
I totally fell in love with my wedding dress. I’d seen it on Pinterest and found the designer and booked an appointment to try it on. It was the first one I tried, so all other dresses compared to this one!
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
Esme by Jenny Packham, from Jenny Packham on Elizabeth Street, London.
Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!
I also wore a beautiful head dress from Jenny Packham which I absolutely loved. My shoes were from Hobbs.
And what did the groom wear?
The groom wore a blue suit from Ted Baker and a yellow tie from Moss Bros. Our friend Gemma made the pocket squares for all the boys.
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
My beautiful bridesmaids chose their own dresses from Phase Eight.
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
I had my hair done by a lovely stylist called Gemma from a local salon in Farnham called Ruby Mane, and had my makeup done by lovely Kelly at Ellky May. Both were able to come to our hotel in the morning and were so sweet and accommodating.
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
The venue didn’t need too much decoration as it already had pretty fairy lights around the beams and pillars in the barn, but we did borrow some bunting from a friend and bought some hearts and pompoms to hang between the pillars
Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?
We made all of our own stationery and Chris’s mum Mandy made our wedding cake and cupcakes.
The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
The groom’s mum Mandy was kind enough to make our wedding cake and cupcakes. She did a fantastic job, they looked great and were delicious.
Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?
We had a brilliant live soul band called the Soultanas. The surprise was that they let me sing a song with them at the end of the first set!
Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:
My advice for other couples would be to just go with the flow on the day. You’ve planned and organised it so well, the day itself will be a dream.
What’s the best thing about being married?
The best thing about being married is being totally connected to my best friend, and looking forward to our future together.
