If I can bring a smile to your face this morning I’ll be so happy… and with the amazing wedding I have up my sleeve I’m feeling pretty confident 🙂 Caroline & David’s wedding is wonderful: a riot of colour and fun, and I adore the flowers and how the gorgeous bride and groom styled the venue for their day. There are so many glorious details and I love the portraits of the bride and groom as well, they just look so perfect together!
Images are by lovely Lissa Alexandra Photography, who you can discover more from here:
“From the first meeting with Caroline & David I loved their relaxed vibe. At the time of planning their wedding they were moving back from Australia to England, applying for new jobs as well as finding a home, I mean WOW, that’s all kinds of busy but they were chilled and I knew it was going to be an awesome day because of them. This followed through into the engagement shoot as well, it unexpectedly rained quite badly and we were doing piggybacks and all sorts during it, they didn’t care, that’s my kind of couple!” ~ Lissa Alexandra
“On the wedding day itself I was blown away by the colours and all the hard work they’d put into the decor of the venue, it’s was just a burst of colours everywhere and had such a happy vibe. Beautiful, beautiful day!!!
“I love East Riddlesden Hall, I’m very lucky that they recommend me there as it’s a dream for wedding photographers. There’s so many pretty places for fab photos with great variety too from an English garden setting, to dark moody barns to lakeside portraits, spoilt for choice! The barn where the wedding was held has so much charm, you get a free run on how to decorate it. Plus the wedding team are awesome, professional and fun, just fab to work with!” ~ Lissa Alexandra Photography

How did you choose your photographer?
Recommendation from a friend and the venue we had chosen
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
We were so happy we chose Lissa to photograph our wedding. The early stages of our wedding planning were done from Australia, and involved lots of emailing and Skype conversations at strange times of day. Lissa was great, answered all our questions and was really easy to talk to. When we moved back to the UK in time for our wedding, we had an engagement shoot, and Lissa put us at ease really quickly and we felt comfortable in front of the camera doing our “posed” shots, and talked to us in depth about what sort of style photos we would like, so by the time the wedding came round, it all went perfectly.
Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?
It was amazing! It brought back wonderful memories of the day.
East Riddlesden Hall
Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?
A wonderful, fun celebration with our closest friends and family.
Your wedding style or theme:
Bright and colourful, not overly formal.
Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)
Recommendations from our venue and friends
What’s your top tip for saving money?
High street bridesmaids dresses, groomsmen wore their own suits, family friend with a nice car drove the bride to the venue, DIY decorations and stationery.
… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
The food (it was delicious) and the venue
Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?
A labour (of love?). We were delighted with the end product, but it did take a lot of work!
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Yes, I definitely got the ‘princess’ feeling when I tried my dress on for the first time and from the look on my Mum’s face I just knew it was the one.
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
Essence of Australia, Abbey Wedding Warehouse. Kirkstall, Leeds
Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!
My dress was very sparkly so I didn’t really need to add much else.
And what did the groom wear?
Blue DKNY suit from Moss Bros. and Ted Baker shoes
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
Green dresses from Oasis.
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
Brittany, a professional hair stylist and makeup artist, did my hair and makeup (brittanyjae.com). She really took the pressure off on the day and made me feel wonderful.
Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)
Lots of bright coloured flowers, arranged perfectly by Laura of Love Blossoms Flowers (http://www.loveblossomsflowers.com/). My Mum also used some flowers from her garden to make some lovely additional window decorations.
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
Our venue was a beautiful old barn with loads of character but to add a bit of colour we put our own bunting, paper lanterns, candles and window decorations up. Fairy lights provided by the venue hung along the beams created a lovely light and atmosphere.
Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?
We had quite a few homemade elements in our wedding, including bunting, table runners, paper windmills and wedding sign. It was nice to have some of our own hand crafted parts to the wedding and we really enjoyed making them with our parents.
The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
Our wedding cake was made by a family friend who used our favourite flavours and inspiration from our bright and colour theme. It was a delicious three tier sponge cake, each layer was a different flavour and it was beautifully decorated with lots of colourful sugar flowers with a cockatoo on top (to remind us of our time living in Australia).
Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?
Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:
Get help sorting decorations for the venue if you’re decorating yourself. Not too many that people get in the way, but enough that it gets done quickly. Assign best man/groomsmen to sort out family and guests if they need any help on the day too reduce stress. Most importantly the day goes so quickly so make sure you take some time out to soak up the atmosphere and take everything in.
What’s the best thing about being married?
That we get to spend the rest of our lives together
