This morning we shared the first of three fabulous Viking inspired bridal looks, and you’ll have glimpsed some of the most amazing table styling in the banqueting hall at Lowther Castle. This afternoon I’m sharing my very favourite parts from this shoot: the tablescape – and it’s so much more than just a table! Let’s take a closer look at the tablescapes, floral design, wedding cake, stationery suite and bridal styling from this morning’s Lowther Castle shoot.
Wedding tables are changing: the last thing they are is flat… tablescapes now include fabulous hanging decorations and sumptuous design from floor to ceiling. The banqueting tablescape from Lowther Castle was one of the loveliest I’ve EVER seen – and it’s so exciting to be able to share it with you on the English Wedding Blog.
Here’s how to create a unique and exciting look for your Viking inspired wedding celebration. It’s perfect for any castle wedding reception, and especially suited to the winter months when you’re looking to add colour to your tables. Enjoy!
1. The statement wedding cake
Amy Swann designed this gloriously creative wedding cake for the Viking themed wedding table. It makes the perfect centrepiece, topped with fabulous handcrafted flower decoration and those feathers adding height and texture. Definitely a wow design for Viking celebrations! 2. Striking stationery and handwritten calligraphy detailing
When it comes to stationery, the intricate details are what make it special. This suite was designed by Amy Swann, and has handwritten calligraphy in luxurious gold ink by Calligraphy for Weddings. The illustrations are out of this world, combining rich reds and colours to complement the gold accents in the floral borders.
3. Accessories and bridal style
Charlotte from Legend Bridal Designs made the most amazing statement bridal gowns, fusing Viking inspired style with contemporary couture techniques. The beaded strings, delicate lace and softest leather and suedes are out of this world. I adore the headpieces the Viking brides wear; each look is striking with the most delicate of details.
4. Stunning tablescapes and place settings
Alongside the statement cake, combining coloured candles, divine floral decor (by Lucy MacNicoll) and metallics guarantees impactful wedding tables. The styling here is out of this world: and tables are given every chance to shine with the fabulous lighting by Typical Type. Slate and brass is from wedding stylist Nina Marika. Fusing opulent, banquet style table decor with imaginative lighting and contemporary fashion (who doesn’t love a new Edison bulb?) makes for a truly unique top table style. 5. The dream location: a castle wedding
Lowther Castle is a dream wedding venue: dating back centuries it’s a magnificent building with spaces for creative wedding receptions. The outside space is perfect for a summer reception, with grounds your guests will love to explore. Seeing the outside space so beautifully lit by Typical Type is enough to melt my heart; isn’t it divine?
6. Lighting for the most incredible impact
Think creatively when it comes to lighting on your wedding day. Choosing a venue with the space and scope to provide your own lighting gives real creative freedom, and Typical Type’s display table is really quite magical. Edison bulbs and Viking banqueting style work together so very well, who’d have dreamed they’d make the perfect team!
7. Fabulous florals and creative flower design
Choosing rich, vibrant colours for your wedding flowers is one way to make a statement; working creatively with a brilliant florist is another. Flowers are a huge trend for 2016 weddings, and couples will be experimenting with tall, hanging, and otherwise creative flower design: here are some stunning ideas from lovely Lucy MacNicoll, who is based in Harrogate.

This is absolutely fantastic! My favorite part was the invitations. The fact that it is handwritten is amazing. I find that hand written notes and invitations go so much further than anything digital. The colours are fantastic and the embellishments really pop against the paper.
