Thank you so much, my lovely readers, for your support and patience while we recovered from this weekend’s blog adventures! I’m thrilled to say we’re 100% back on track now… and I have a super beautiful real wedding to begin our week with this morning!
Gorgeous bride and groom Natalie and Darren were married at Stubton Hall, and told me they loved reading wedding blogs and researching suppliers – it certainly meant a perfect atmosphere and a wonderful day came together beautifully!
Images are by lovely Leeds wedding photographer Samantha Ward – one of my friends and an exceptional talent in the industry. Sam’s images are out of this world and I loved hearing that today’s couple were over the moon with their wedding photos.
There are some amazing details here: the flowers and succulents; the fabulous letterpress stationery by my friends at Cardlab, and the quality of the photography of course is second to none. LOVE!
The English Wedding Blog Interview: Natalie & Darren
Wedding photographer’s website:
How did you choose your photographer?
We attended a friends wedding in France and loved their pictures, we tried to arrange for this photographer o photograph our wedding but the logistics were difficult. She recommended Sam as she had worked with her and had been trained by Sam. We were so very lucky to have found her.
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
We were over the moon with our photographer. We had the most excellent day on our love shoot and this really helped us to get to know each other and talk through all the questions that I had for the big day (I had lots). On the day Sam was incredible she knew exactly what was going on and captured the most amazing moments. Darren and I did not want many staged pictures as we felt this could take away from our day. Sam managed to capture everything we wanted and more
Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?
Our faces can only be described as overjoyed. I remember specifically that Daren was off from work that day and waited for me to get home before we looked at the pictures together. Our faces were beaming when we saw the results and obviously I carried lots and lots of happy tears. It was amazing to see so many things that I missed on the day. We spent the whole evening talking about the wedding and it brought back so many happy memories. The attention to detail that Sam creates when she sends the pictures is incredible. We were cuddled on the sofa eating our his and her mini chocolate enjoying every picture
Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?
Everything I dreamed of as a little girl
Your wedding style or theme:
Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)
Darren enjoyed doing lots of research so we used lots of different suppliers. Some of our suppliers were recommended through our venue. I loved reading wedding blogs and lots of my inspiration came through Pinterest
What’s your top tip for saving money?
Only save on the things you want to. Find websites that you can use to re-sell the items you buy
… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
The band were expensive but worth every penny.
When I walked into the reception room on the morning of the wedding the flowers had been delivered and I cried when I saw them so I definitely think they were worth the extra pennies
Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?
The stationary was one of my favourite elements of the wedding as I felt that guests got an idea of how our wedding would be through our stationery. We sourced all our stationery through Cardlab and they were exceptional. They were plain and elegant and had a personalized motif which we used on all our stationery.
Instead of a seating board, each guest had a personal envelope, when they opened it it contained a small card with the name of their table on it.
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Yes. It was everything I wanted and felt amazing in it. The whole experience of it was magical and the best part for me was having my mum by my side for all my appointments. We had lots of giggles trying on many different dresses and tears when we found the one.
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!
I knew before I got any other part of my bridal outfit that I wanted Jimmy Choo’s. I didn’t go for a classic wedding shoe but a strappy sandal. I loved them and they were so comfy on the day. I also had some personalized converse designed for the evening which were a great hit
My garter was from Stella McCartney and was a present from one of my bridesmaids. I loved it
I had a small delicate hair slide positioned on the left hand side of my hair just to add a bit of sparkle under my cathedral length veil
My jewelry was simple a diamante bracelet and earrings. My dress was so spectacular that I didn’t need anything more than simple jewelry.
And what did the groom wear? Any recommendations for tailors?
He wore a light blue 3 piece Hugo Boss suit
We sourced his tie and the ties, pocket squares and tie bars from an American company called Tie Bar.
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
They wore floor length light blue Reiss dresses that had a split up the middle. They looked stunning and I have had so many comments on how gorgeous the dresses were.
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
My hair stylist cam from London, I wanted someone that I knew and I had been going to her for years, she created a master piece and I am forever grateful.
My make up artist was also a professional but a family member of a friend.
Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)
White, white and a touch of blue. I wanted dramatic and gorgeous and that’s exactly what I got. Our table arrangements were huge displays of white hydrangeas, my bouquets was white peonies, the bridesmaids had blue hydrangeas. The flowers were out of this world; and for me added so much to the wedding
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
The venue was stunning and needed little decoration the grounds were beautiful and the Weddign Breakfast room elegant
Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?
I wanted chair covers that I had seen on the internet from an American wedding I spoke with nearly 30 companies and nobody had what I wanted. Darren and my mum knew how much they meant to me so we sourced the material and hired a seamstress to make all the chair covers and Darren made all the fasteners for them. They were so worth it.
The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
I wanted a large cake something that people would look at and go wow. The different layers and textures made it and we were over the moon
Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?
We had seen Ruby Street Soul club at another wedding and the atmosphere they created was incredible. They are professional musicians that tour with famous artists so securing them was difficult. They were exceptional from the beginning. A all of our guests were up dancing and the dance floor was never quiet. I know my legs ached the next day from all the dancing. We also had one of our close friends to DJ and he and his wife edited our first dance for us.
I had lots of treats on the morning of my wedding. Darren had numbered my presents to open and written the most beautiful cards. I opened them with my bridesmaids and pranced around in my new Mrs Percival jumpsuit
As Darren and I entered the reception room our MC (My best friend) had one guest from each table to stand up and make an arch way for our entrance. All the other guests had to bang on the tables as we were walking down the corridor we wondered what all the noise was but it was such a surprise to see the entrance.
On the day tips and advice:
Take time to be with your husband and take it all in. It truly was the best day of my life. I can not thank my husband, family and friends enough for making it all so magical. I am the luckiest girl in the world
What’s the best thing about being married?
