I remember saying at the beginning of the year that I wanted to be involved in more styled shoots. I nailed it… I’ve been sending calligraphy samples to photographers all around the country (and a couple to Dubai, even!) and had some amazing images sent back to me. But the best thing to come out of this year is working alongside the team at Aspire Photography Training and all of our wonderful friends (you know who you are!). I get to share their gorgeous shoots with you – and they really are a whole world of inspiring.
Today’s images are by Phil Barber, from Barber Photography. I love how he’s captured the details as beautifully as the essence of the styled shoot: we wanted to make a real statement with chalkboard calligraphy, and translate the chalk theme into something wider… so we went with dust and sparkle on our Pinterest boards to plan the shoot. As ever, lovely Yasmin at Aspire made the shoot more amazing than I could ever have imagined! The stunning flowers came from Made in Flowers – thank you Katie!
I love writing large-scale calligraphy. Chalkboards are so much fun – and they’re super easy to make! You can buy the basics – board + chalkboard paint in DIY stores, and the pens (white markers) in craft and art shops. I use Zig / Posca markers, which are brilliant to write with.
The gorgeous models for the day were Emily (who is as talented as she is lovely!) and Harry. Emily has her own Etsy shop selling super sweet baby accessories which I thoroughly recommend you investigate! Etsy.com/shop/emilyandheath
