A few weeks ago I picked up a copper jug from a village hall sale. It’s battered, patched up and utterly gorgeous. I’ll style my calligraphy studio around it; if I was planning a wedding I would style the sparkliest of modern tablescapes around it. Today we’re taking a look at how YOU can style your own wedding with copper accents and super sparkle. Images are by lovely Amanda Karen Photography.
Amanda curated a styled shoot along with Daydreaming Bride which contrasted grey and copper tones with a city chic wedding style. I was in my element writing copper calligraphy pieces for the shoot – we came up with a handwritten invitation, envelope and menu using the palest grey card and metallic copper ink. It worked beautifully with the lush greenery on the table. (oh, those ferns…)
The shoot was lovely in every way: the overall look of the set was breathtaking; the bride was more than beautiful and every little detail was so carefully considered to fit with the chic styling of the wedding tablescapes.
You can find out more about my calligraphy on my website Calligraphy-for-Weddings.com. I write for hundreds of brides and grooms every year, so do book in early if you can! I have some availability left for winter weddings this year too…
Super sparkly bridal style!
Amanda worked with Mode Bridal and Heart A Flutter Bridal Boutique to style the bride in luxurious fabrics with a modern aesthetic. I adore the flow and shimmer of the sequin skirt… separates are just so fabulously versatile and fun to play around with, aren’t they?
The bridal look works like a charm with sparkly accessories by Debbie Carlisle and shoes from Mode Bridal. Think about styling the room you’ll be getting ready in – glamorous displays with perfume bottles and pretty details will help set the scene for your wedding photograph album on the day…
Handwritten wedding stationery with copper accents
For the calligraphy wedding stationery I used the palest grey card with a mixture of metallic copper inks and copper foil. The process is intensive but the results are fabulous: the menus and invitation / envelope calligraphy have a raised finish so you can run your fingers across the lettering! For the belly bands on the menus, and for the place name cards I used copper leaf over brushed adhesive giving a rustic and natural look to the edges, and wrote over the copper in black ink. The fabulous table styling, silk napkins, pewter vessels and glass bottles are by Kate Cullen Styling and the sparkly table cloth is from 9ice events.
Flowers to work with a copper wedding style
Flowers for your copper sparkle wedding should be chic and timeless. A bouquet incorporating textures and plenty of foliage works wonderfully. The fabulous Ivy Pip & Rose styled this modern bouquet with roses, orchids, anemones (I think?!) and wonderfully delicate ferns to compliment the overall look of the day. Orchids make lovely buttonholes and add a lovely finishing touch to wedding tables alongside ferns and succulents.
A copper wedding cake by The Looby Lou Cake Company
Metallic wedding cakes are a huge trend for this wedding season, and copper is that little bit different… certainly less common than gold or silver. I love the little pearls on this stunning cake by The Looby Lou Cake Company and the layered icing is a creative way to add mixed copper tones to the design – fabulous!
Finishing touches for extra sparkle – those all important details
Remember to shop around for additional details to style your day. Chance finds at antique fairs can uncover the loveliest vintage jewellery and tablewares while craft fairs and independent shops often have the prettiest fabrics and floral decorations to finish off your tables perfectly!
